International Albinism Awareness Day (IAAD)

♦ The International Albinism Awareness Day (IAAD) is observd every year on June 13, to uphold the human rights of individuals with 'Albinism'. ♦ A genetic condition known as 'Albinism' causes a person to be born with less melanin pigment than normal. ♦ Their skin, hair, and eyes are all colored by a substance called melanin. Additionally, it has a role in the development of the optic nerve, which implies it supports healthy eye function.  ♦ On December 18, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly established the International Albinism Awareness Day. ♦ The inaugural IAAD observance was carried out in 2015 after it was decided that June 13 would be the day. ♦ 2025 theme: "Demanding Our Rights: Protect Our Skin, Preserve Our Lives"

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI)

♦ The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and the Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to work together on strengthening cyber security and resilience in India's fast-growing digital payments ecosystem, including UPI. ♦ This partnership aims to improve the overall safety of digital transactions by focusing on training, awareness, and proactive risk management. ♦ Under the MoU, both organisations will jointly offer specialised training programmes for technology and cyber security professionals in the banking and digital payments sectors.

Olympic silver medallist Camille Jedrzejewski (241.7) of France in the second place and Yao Qianxuan (221.7) of China won the bronze medal in the event.

India-Mongolia Joint Military Exercise

♦ The 17th edition of the India-Mongolia Joint Military Exercise Nomadic Elephant in Ulaanbaatar concluded at Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia on 13 June 2025.   ♦ The Indian contingent, comprising 45 personnel, was represented mainly by troops from a battalion of the Arunachal Scouts. ♦ The exercise was conducted in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, from May 31 to June 13. ♦ Exercise Nomadic Elephant is an annual event conducted alternately in India and Mongolia. ♦ The last edition of the exercise was conducted at Umroi, Meghalaya, in July 2024. ♦ The exercise aimed to enhance interoperability between the two forces while employing a joint task force in semi-conventional operations in semi-urban/mountainous terrain under a United Nations mandate.

♦ The Indian Government has extended financial assistance for another year to support the passenger India-Sri Lanka ferry service between Nagapattinam and Kankesanthurai. ♦ The move is in line with India’s continued commitment to strengthening regional connectivity and people-to-people ties with Sri Lanka. ♦ The assistance will continue under the Viability Gap Funding mechanism, with over 300 million Sri Lankan Rupees earmarked annually. ♦ This support helps ensure affordable fares and uninterrupted service by covering critical logistical and operational expenses. ♦ Since its relaunch in August 2024, the ferry has been utilised by over 15,000 passengers, boosting cultural, economic, and social exchanges. ♦ It marks a significant step in revitalizing maritime links between the two countries.

అంతర్జాతీయ ఆల్బినిజం అవగాహన దినోత్సవం

ఆల్బినిజం గురించి ప్రజలను చైతన్యపరిచే లక్ష్యంతో ఏటా జూన్‌ 13న ‘అంతర్జాతీయ ఆల్బినిజం అవగాహన దినోత్సవం’గా నిర్వహిస్తారు. ఆల్బినిజం అనేది పుట్టుకతో వచ్చే అరుదైన, జన్యుపరంగా సంభవించే అనారోగ్య సమస్య. దీని వల్ల జుట్టు, చర్మం, కళ్లలో మెలనిన్‌ అనే వర్ణద్రవ్యం లోపించి, మొత్తం శరీరం తెల్లగా లేదా లేత గులాబీ రంగులోకి మారుతుంది. ఈ వ్యాధికి చికిత్స లేదు. అలాగే ఇది అంటువ్యాధి కాదు. దీని బారినపడినవారు శారీరక సమస్యలు ఎదుర్కొంటున్నారు. సామాజికంగానూ వివక్షకు గురవుతున్నారు. ఈ పరిస్థితులపై అవగాహన కల్పించడంతోపాటు వారి హక్కులను తెలియజేయడం ఈ రోజు ముఖ్య ఉద్దేశం. చారిత్రక నేపథ్యం: 2000 కాలంలో టాంజానియాలో ఆల్బినిజం ఒక ప్రధాన సమస్యగా ఉండేది. వారిని దుష్టశక్తులుగా భావించి, హత్య చేసేవారు. ఈ విధంగా అక్కడ వందలాదిమంది ప్రాణాలు కోల్పోయారు. దీంతో టాంజానియా ఆల్బినిజం సొసైటీ (టీఏఎస్‌) ఆ వ్యాధిగ్రస్తుల హక్కుల కోసం ప్రచారం చేసింది. 2006, మే 4న టీఏఎస్‌ మొదటి ఆల్బినో దినోత్సవాన్ని నిర్వహించింది. 2009 నుంచి దీన్ని జాతీయ ఆల్బినో దినోత్సవంగా పిలుస్తున్నారు.  ఐరాస మానవ హక్కుల మండలి (యూఎన్‌హెచ్‌ఆర్‌సీ) 2013, జూన్‌ 13న ఆల్బినిజం ఉన్న వ్యక్తులపై దాడులు, వివక్షకు వ్యతిరేకంగా ఒక తీర్మానాన్ని ఆమోదించింది. 2014, డిసెంబరు 18న జరిగిన యూఎన్‌ జనరల్‌ అసెంబ్లీ జూన్‌ 13ను ‘అంతర్జాతీయ ఆల్బినిజం అవగాహన దినోత్సవం’గా ప్రకటించింది. 2015 నుంచి ఏటా దీన్ని నిర్వహిస్తున్నారు. 2025 నినాదం: Demanding our rights: Protect our skin, Preserve our lives
