♦ Reserve Bank of India Governor Sanjay Malhotra on 6 February 2026 announced that the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has unanimously decided to keep the policy repo rate unchanged at 5.25 percent while maintaining a neutral policy stance. The Governor said India’s economic activity is expected to hold up well in 2026–27.  ♦ The RBI Governor noted that despite global headwinds, India’s economy continues on a steadily improving trajectory, with real GDP growth expected to reach 7.4 percent in 2025–26, supported by private consumption and fixed investment. However, net external demand remained a drag on growth, as imports continued to outpace exports. Real Gross Value Added (GVA) growth for the year is estimated at 7.3 percent, driven largely by services and a revival in manufacturing.

India and the Netherlands

♦ India and the Netherlands on 6 February 2026 took a step toward strengthening bilateral cooperation in clean energy research with the launch of the India-Netherlands Hydrogen Fellowship Programme and the signing of a key academic partnership between the University of Groningen and 19 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). The initiatives, facilitated by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), aim to boost research capacity, talent development, and deployment-oriented innovation in green hydrogen technologies, a critical pillar of India’s clean energy transition. ♦ The Hydrogen Fellowship Programme, for which the scheme guidelines and call for proposals were released on Thursday, is a national capacity-building initiative open to eligible doctoral, postdoctoral, and faculty applicants from Indian institutions. The programme will provide structured exposure to advanced hydrogen ecosystems in the Netherlands, focusing on system integration, safety, techno-economic analysis, life-cycle assessment, and pathways for indigenisation.

Unified Payments Interface (UPI)

♦ India has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements with 23 countries to share and cooperate on its Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), reinforcing the country’s growing role as a global leader in digital governance and fintech innovation. The agreements aim to facilitate the replication and adoption of India’s digital platforms under the India Stack framework, said Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Jitin Prasada in a written reply to Rajya Sabha on 6 February 2026. ♦ India’s flagship digital payments platform, the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), is now operational in more than eight countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, France, Mauritius, and Qatar.  ♦ In addition, India has signed specific MoUs with Cuba, Kenya, the United Arab Emirates, and Lao People’s Democratic Republic for cooperation on DigiLocker, the country’s digital document storage and verification platform.

Agni-3 ballistic missile

♦ India successfully test-fired nuclear weapons-capable Agni-3 ballistic missile from the Chandipur off the Odisha coast on 6 Friday 2026. The surface-to-surface missile was launched by the personnel of Strategic Forces Command (SFC) from a mobile launcher as part of a regular training exercise for the user. ♦ The missile was picked up randomly from the production lot and test-fired, adding that the SFC is tasked with handling strategic weapons systems. The launch validated all operational and technical parameters. ♦ Various parameters and trajectory of the 17-meter long missile were tracked and monitored in real time by radars along the east coast, as well as by the telemetry and electro-optical systems.  ♦Agni-3 is one of the sophisticated and accurate missiles of its class and has already been inducted into the armed forces. It is capable of carrying a payload weighing 1.5 tons to a distance of more than 3,000 kilometres.

♦ India have clinched the U19 Cricket World Cup 2026 title for a record sixth time in Harare, Zimbabwe on 6 February 2026. India defeated England by 100 runs in the final. ♦ India scored a massive total of 411 for nine in the stipulated 50 overs. England were bowled out for 311 in 40.2 overs. ♦ The Indian team, led by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored 175 off just 80 balls. He was named both Player of the Match and Player of the Series.  ♦ Previously India team won the U19 Cricket World Cup titles in 2000, 2008, 2012, 2018, 2022.
