“Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat”

♦ Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Annapurna Devi launched the national campaign “Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat” in New Delhi on 27 November 2024. ♦ As part of the campaign, the Minister also inaugurated the Child Marriage Free Bharat Portal, an innovative online platform that enables citizens to report child marriage incidents, file complaints, and access information about Child Marriage Prohibition Officers (CMPOs) nationwide. ♦ The portal is a significant step in empowering citizens and enforcing the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006. ♦ Child marriages remain widespread in parts of India. The anti-child marriage campaign will focus on seven high-burden states—West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Tripura, Assam, and Andhra Pradesh—and 300 districts where their rates are above the national average. ♦ The aim is to reduce child marriage prevalence to below 5% by 2029. Child marriage rates dropped from 47.4% in 2006 to 23.3% in 2019-21.

National Maritime Search and Rescue Exercise & Workshop (SAREX-24)

♦ The 11th edition of the Indian Coast Guard’s National Maritime Search and Rescue Exercise & Workshop (SAREX-24) was started in Kochi, Kerala on 27 November 2024. ♦ It aims to enhance India’s capabilities in maritime search and rescue (SAR) operations through a collaborative approach involving various national and international stakeholders. ♦ This was conducted under the aegis of the National Maritime Search and Rescue Board from November 27 to 30. ♦ The theme of this exercise is "Enhancing Search and Rescue capabilities through Regional collaboration." ♦ The exercise is designed not only to evaluate efficiency of operations and coordination with national stakeholders but also to aptly focus on cooperative engagements with the littorals and Friendly Foreign Countries (FFCs).

This institute is the country’s top public funder of medical research with a budget of $47.3 billion. ♦ The NIH director oversees 27 institutes and centers that conduct early stage research on everything from vaccines for emerging pandemic threats to targets for new drugs. ♦ Jay Bhattacharya was born in Kolkata in 1968. He graduated from Stanford University School of Medicine in 1997 and received his doctorate from Stanford’s Department of Economics in 2000. ♦ He currently serves as a professor of Health Policy at Stanford University and directs the university’s Center for Demography and Economics of Health and Aging.

Dialogue on Economic Security

♦ India and Japan inaugurated their first-ever Dialogue on Economic Security in Tokyo on 27 November 2024, focusing on bolstering industrial and technological resilience. ♦ The dialogue included discussions on strategic trade and technology, with senior officials and experts from both nations in attendance. ♦ The meeting was co-chaired by India’s Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, and Japan’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Masataka Okano, along with representatives from key ministries and agencies. ♦ The dialogue was initially announced during the India-Japan 2+2 Ministerial meeting in New Delhi on August 20, 2024.

Network Readiness Index 2024 (NRI 2024)

♦ The government announced on 27 November 2024 that India has secured 49th rank globally in the latest Network Readiness Index 2024 (NRI 2024). ♦ India got 60th rank in the NRI 2023 report. The country also increased its score from 49.93 in 2023 to 53.63 in 2024. The index was published by the Portulans Institute and Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford. ♦ The United States as the world leader in network readiness for the third consecutive year. The report highlights the US's dominance in artificial intelligence (AI) development, digital business transformation, and technology adoption. Singapore has retained the second position. ♦ South Korea has risen to fifth, making them the only Asian countries in the top 10. ♦ The report assesses 133 economies on their performance across four pillars: Technology, People, Governance, and Impact, encompassing 54 variables.

ఎరిక్‌సన్‌ నివేదిక

మన దేశంలో 5జీ వినియోగదారుల సంఖ్య 2030 సంవత్సరానికి మూడు రెట్లు వృద్ధి చెంది 97 కోట్లకు చేరే అవకాశం ఉందని టెలికాం గేర్‌ తయారీ సంస్థ ఎరిక్‌సన్‌ తన నివేదికలో పేర్కొంది. దేశంలో మొత్తం మొబైల్‌ చందాదారుల్లో ఇది 74 శాతానికి సమానమవుతుందని తెలిపింది. ఎరిక్‌సన్‌ కన్జూమర్‌ల్యాబ్‌ రిసెర్చ్‌ పేరిట విడుదల చేసిన ఈ నివేదిక ప్రకారం.. 5జీ పనితీరుకు కీలక చోదకంగా జెనరేటివ్‌ ఏఐ యాప్‌లు మారుతున్నాయి. 2024 చివరకు భారత్‌లో 5జీ వినియోగదారుల సంఖ్య 27 కోట్లకు చేరుతుందని, మొత్తం చందాదారుల్లో ఇది 23 శాతమని ఎరిక్‌సన్‌ వివరించింది. ఇదే సమయంలో అంతర్జాతీయంగా 5జీ చందాదారుల సంఖ్య దాదాపు 230 కోట్లకు చేరనుంది. మొత్తం మొబైల్‌ వినియోగదారుల్లో ఇది 25 శాతానికి సమానం.

హైస్పీడ్‌ రైళ్ల తయారీ

గంటకు 280 కి.మీ. వేగంతో వెళ్లేలా హైస్పీడ్‌ రైళ్లను చెన్నైలోని ‘సమీకృత రైలుపెట్టెల తయారీ కర్మాగారం’ (ఐసీఎఫ్‌)లో సిద్ధం చేయిస్తున్నట్లు రైల్వేశాఖ మంత్రి అశ్వినీ వైష్ణవ్‌ 2024, నవంబరు 27న వెల్లడించారు. ఒక్కో పెట్టె తయారీకి సుమారు రూ.28 కోట్లు ఖర్చవుతుందని చెప్పారు. మేక్‌ ఇన్‌ ఇండియా (భారత్‌లో తయారీ) కింద తీసుకువచ్చిన వందేభారత్‌ రైళ్లు విజయవంతం కావడంతో ఇప్పుడు హైస్పీడ్‌ రైళ్ల రూపకల్పన, తయారీపై రైల్వేశాఖ దృష్టి సారించింది.
