Nobel Prize in Chemistry

♦ The Nobel Prize in Chemistry for 2025 has been awarded to Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson and Omar M Yaghi. ♦ They have developed a new form of molecular architecture. ♦ In their constructions, metal ions function as cornerstones that are linked by long organic (carbon-based) molecules. ♦ Together, the metal ions and molecules are organised to form crystals that contain large cavities. ♦ Kitagawa is a professor at Kyoto University, Japan. ♦ Richard Robson is currently working as a Professor at the University of Melbourne, Australia. ♦ Yaghi is currently a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, US. ♦ The prize money of 11 million Swedish kronor will be shared equally between the laureates. ♦ In 2024, the Nobel Prize for chemistry went to David Baker and John Jumper, together with Briton Demis Hassabis, for work on cracking the code of the structure of proteins through computing and artificial intelligence.

Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB)

♦ The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 8 October 2025 to enhance cooperation in the areas of research, training, technology development and capacity building related to narcotics control and cyber-enabled drug crimes. ♦ The MoU was signed by Director General, NCB, Anurag Garg, and Prof Bimal N. Patel, Vice Chancellor of RRU at a function in New Delhi. ♦ Under this MoU, the two institutions will collaborate to conduct joint research and innovation in emerging areas such as darknet narcotics markets, cryptocurrency tracing, and cyber-threat intelligence. ♦ NCB and RRU will also work together to develop and deliver specialized training programmes on cyber forensics, blockchain forensics, OSINT, and behavioural profiling for NCB officers.

Pioneering roadmap titled AI

♦ NITI Aayog on 8 October 2025 launched a pioneering roadmap titled AI for Inclusive Societal Development, a first-of-its-kind national effort to harness the power of artificial intelligence (AI) and frontier technologies to transform the lives and livelihoods of India’s 490 million informal workers. ♦ The report, developed in partnership with Deloitte, marks a major shift in the national AI conversation. ♦ While global discourse has often focused on white-collar jobs and the formal economy, this study centers the informal sector — which contributes nearly half of India’s GDP but remains outside formal protection and productivity systems. ♦ The study warns that without immediate, coordinated action, informal workers’ average annual income could stagnate at $6,000 by 2047—far below the $14,500 per capita target required for India to achieve high-income nation status.

Satcom Summit was inaugurated by Jyotiraditya M. Scindia.

♦ Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia inaugurated the Satcom Summit on “Space Networks for Universal Connectivity” at the India Mobile Congress 2025 (IMC 2025) in New Delhi on 8 October 2025. ♦ Scindia said the initiative marks “the threshold of a revolution – a revolution born in the sky, carried by satellites, but destined to transform lives on the ground.” ♦ He highlighted India’s rapid digital transformation, connecting 99.9% of the population through 4.8 lakh 5G towers in just 20 months – the fastest rollout globally. ♦ Under the Universal Service Obligation Fund and Digital Bharat Nidhi, the government has set a target to connect 38,260 remote villages across difficult terrains with a total investment of Rs.40,000 crore. ♦ So far, around 29,000 villages – nearly 75% – have already been connected. ♦ With the Indian SATCOM market valued at $4.3 billion in 2024 and projected to reach $14.8 billion by 2033, Scindia highlighted the sector’s economic and strategic potential. ♦ He also announced the establishment of a ₹900 crore National SATCOM Monitoring Facility to safeguard spectrum assets and enhance the security of India’s satellite gateways.

ఐఏఎఫ్‌ (ఇండియన్‌ ఎయిర్‌ఫోర్స్‌) అనేది భారత సాయుధ దళాల వైమానిక విభాగం. దేశ భద్రత, సమగ్రతను కాపాడటంలో మన వైమానిక దళం ఎప్పుడూ ముందుంటుంది. మన దేశ వైమానిక పరిధిని భద్రంగా చూసుకోవడం, శత్రు దేశాలతో సంఘర్షణ పరిస్థితులు తలెత్తినప్పుడు యుద్ధంలో పాల్గొనడం దీని బాధ్యత. క్లిష్టమైన భూభాగాలు, వాతావరణాల్లో భారత సైన్యానికి ఎయిర్‌ లిఫ్ట్‌ మద్దతు, లాజిస్టిక్స్‌ సరఫరాతోపాటు విపత్తుల సమయంలో సామాన్య ప్రజలను సురక్షిత ప్రాంతాలకు చేరవేయడంలోనూ ఇది కీలకంగా పనిచేస్తుంది. మన దేశ వైమానిక దళం ఏర్పాటుకి గుర్తుగా ఏటా అక్టోబరు 8న ‘భారత వైమానిక దళ దినోత్సవం’గా నిర్వహిస్తారు. ఇండియన్‌ ఆర్మీకి భారత వాయుదళం అందించిన సహకారం, వాయుసేన వివిధ యుద్ధాల్లో చూపిన పోరాట పటిమ గురించి తెలియజేయడం ఈ రోజు ముఖ్య ఉద్దేశం. చారిత్రక నేపథ్యం బ్రిటిష్‌ ప్రభుత్వ కాలంలో 1932 అక్టోబరు 8న రాయల్‌ ఎయిర్‌ఫోర్స్‌ ఆఫ్‌ బ్రిటన్‌కు సహాయక విభాగంగా ఇండియన్‌ ఎయిర్‌ఫోర్స్‌ను స్థాపించారు. 1933 ఏప్రిల్‌ 1న నాలుగు వెస్ట్‌లాండ్‌ వాపిటి విమానాలతో కూడిన మొదటి స్క్వాడ్రన్‌ ప్రారంభమయ్యాక ఇది ఉనికిలోకి వచ్చింది. రెండో ప్రపంచ యుద్ధ సమయంలో బర్మాలో జపాన్‌ వారిని నిలువరించడంలో ఐఏఎఫ్‌ కీలకంగా వ్యవహరించింది. భారత వాయుదళ పోరాట పటిమను చూసి బ్రిటిష్‌ ప్రభుత్వం రాయల్‌ బిరుదుతో సత్కరించి రాయల్‌ ఇండియన్‌ ఎయిర్‌ఫోర్స్‌గా పేరు మార్చింది. 1950లో భారతదేశం గణతంత్ర రాజ్యంగా మారినప్పుడు రాయల్‌ అనే పదాన్ని తొలగించారు.

నోబెల్‌ పురస్కారాలు - రసాయనశాస్త్రం

శాస్త్రవేత్తలు సెసీము కిటగావా, రిచర్డ్‌ రాబ్సన్, ఒమర్‌ ఎం యాగిలకు 2025 ఏడాదికి రసాయన శాస్త్రంలో నోబెల్‌ వరించింది. ఈ విషయాన్ని రాయల్‌ స్వీడిష్‌ అకాడమీ ఆఫ్‌ సైన్సెస్‌ అక్టోబరు 8న ప్రకటించింది. ఎడారుల్లో పొడి గాలి నుంచి తేమ/నీటిని ఉత్పత్తి చేయడం, వాతావరణంలోని కార్బన్‌ డైఆక్సైడ్‌ను సంగ్రహించడం లాంటి కీలక ప్రక్రియలకు అవసరమైన మెటల్‌-ఆర్గానిక్‌ ఫ్రేమ్‌వర్క్‌లను అభివృద్ధి చేసినందుకు వీరికి ఈ పురస్కారం దక్కింది. రాబ్సన్‌ (88) ఆస్ట్రేలియాలోని మెల్‌బోర్న్‌ విశ్వవిద్యాలయానికి, కిటగావా (74) జపాన్‌లోని క్యోటో యూనివర్సిటీకి, యాగి (60) అమెరికాలోని కాలిఫోర్నియా విశ్వవిద్యాలయానికి (బెర్కెలీ) అనుబంధంగా పనిచేస్తున్నారు.

దీపావళిని సెలవుగా ప్రకటించిన కాలిఫోర్నియా

ప్రవాస భారతీయుల కోసం అమెరికాలోని కాలిఫోర్నియా ప్రభుత్వం దీపావళి రోజును అధికారిక సెలవుగా ప్రకటించింది. దీంతో అమెరికాలో ఈ గుర్తింపును ఇచ్చిన మూడో రాష్ట్రంగా నిలిచింది. దీపావళిని రాష్ట్ర సెలవుగా ప్రకటించాలని అసెంబ్లీ సభ్యుడు ఆష్‌ కల్రా సెప్టెంబరులో ప్రతిపాదించిన బిల్లు ఇప్పటికే సభ ఆమోదం పొందింది. తాజాగా దానిపై కాలిఫోర్నియా గవర్నర్‌ గవిన్‌ న్యూసమ్‌ సంతకం చేశారు. పెన్సిల్వేనియా, కనెక్టికట్‌ రాష్ట్రాలు ఇప్పటికే దీపావళి రోజును అధికారిక సెలవుగా ప్రకటించాయి.
