GARUD SHAKTI 24

The 9th edition of India-Indonesia Joint Special Forces Exercise GARUD SHAKTI 24 was started at Cijantung, Indonesia on 1 November 2024. This exercise will be concluded on the 12th of November 2024.  The aim of Exercise GARUD SHAKTI 24 is to acquaint both the sides with each other’s operating procedures, enhance mutual understanding, cooperation and interoperability between the Special Forces of both armies.  The Exercise is designed to develop bilateral military cooperation and strengthen bond between two armies through conduct of discussions and rehearsal of tactical military drills.

Rajesh Kumar Singh

♦ Rajesh Kumar Singh took over as Defence Secretary on 1 November 2024. He is a 1989-batch IAS officer from Kerala cadre. He took over from the incumbent Giridhar Aramane, a 1988-batch IAS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre. ♦ Singh was holding the charge of Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry from April 24, 2023 to August 20, 2024. Prior to that, he held the post of Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying.

Bibek Debroy

♦ Economist and Chairman of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's economic advisory council Bibek Debroy (69) died on 1 November 2024. He was appointed Chairman of PM-EAC on September 25, 2017,  ♦ He was earlier served as the chancellor of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE) in Pune. Debroy was also a Member of NITI Aayog up to June 5, 2019. ♦ Debroy was awarded a Padma Shri in 2015 and the Lifetime Achievement Award by the US-India Business Summit in 2016.

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) is celebrated every year in India on October 31 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He was the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India. The day aims to promote national integration and unity among citizens, highlighting Patel's efforts to unify the nation post-independence. This day was first observed in 2014.

All India Football Federation

♦ The All India Football Federation (AIFF) was conferred with the prestigious President’s Recognition Award for Grassroots Football (Silver) during the AFC Annual Awards in Seoul. AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey accepted the award on behalf of the federation. ♦  Since the preceding AFC Annual Awards in Doha last year, when it was handed the bronze award, the AIFF has been endorsed with a silver-level membership under the AFC Grassroots Charter. ♦ The AIFF has been credited for its strong commitment towards grassroots development and establishing long-term sustainable programmes, facilitating regional involvement, and strong partnerships with various stakeholders across the country.

Anish Sarkar

♦ Anish Sarkar from Kaikhali in North Kolkata has made history as the youngest-rated chess player ever. He is just three years, eight months, and 19 days old.  ♦ Anish’s competitive debut came in 2024 October at the West Bengal state Under-9 Open, where he scored 5.5 points from eight rounds, defeating two rated players and placing 24th overall. He soon competed in the state Under-13 Open, challenging older and more experienced opponents. This match met the FIDE requirement of playing five rated players, securing him an initial FIDE rating of 1555.

ఎయిర్‌పోర్ట్‌ కౌన్సిల్‌ ఇంటర్నేషనల్‌ (ఏసీఐ) ఆసియా పసిఫిక్, పశ్చిమాసియా అధ్యక్షుడిగా జీఎంఆర్‌ ఎయిర్‌పోర్ట్స్‌ ఎగ్జిక్యూటివ్‌ డైరెక్టర్, చీఫ్‌ ఇన్నోవేషన్‌ ఆఫీసర్‌ ఎస్‌జీకే కిశోర్‌ 2024, నవంబరు 2న ఎన్నికయ్యారు. ఈయన నియామకం 2024, జనవరి 1 నుంచి అమల్లోకి వస్తుంది. రెండేళ్ల పాటు ఈ పదవిలో కొనసాగుతారు. 47 దేశాల్లోని దాదాపు 600 విమానాశ్రయాలు ఈ ప్రాంతం పరిధిలోకి వస్తాయి.  * ఆసియా పసిఫిక్‌ ప్రాంత కార్యాలయం హాంకాంగ్‌లో ఉండగా, పశ్చిమాసియా కార్యాలయం రియాద్‌లో ఉంది.

భారత్‌లో 17.7% తగ్గిన క్షయవ్యాధి కేసులు

భారత్‌లో గడచిన 8 సంవత్సరాల్లో క్షయ వ్యాధి కేసుల్లో 17.7% తగ్గుదల నమోదైనట్లు ప్రపంచ ఆరోగ్య సంస్థ (డబ్ల్యూహెచ్‌వో) వెల్లడించింది. 2015లో లక్ష మందిలో 237గా ఉన్న క్షయ వ్యాధి కేసులు 2023 నాటికి 195కు తగ్గాయని డబ్ల్యూహెచ్‌వో రూపొందించిన నివేదికను 2024, నవంబరు 2న ఆరోగ్యశాఖ అధికారులు దిల్లీలో విడుదల చేశారు. ప్రపంచ క్షీణత 8.3% కంటే భారత్‌లోనే తగ్గుదల అధికమని వెల్లడించారు.

అండర్‌-19 ప్రపంచ బాక్సింగ్‌ ఛాంపియన్‌షిప్‌

అండర్‌-19 ప్రపంచ బాక్సింగ్‌ ఛాంపియన్‌షిప్‌లో భారత అమ్మాయి క్రిషావర్మ స్వర్ణం నెగ్గింది. 2024, నవంబరు 2న కొలరాడో, అమెరికాలో జరిగిన మహిళల 75 కేజీల విభాగం తుదిపోరులో ఆమె 5-0తో సిమోన్‌ లెరికా (జర్మనీ)ని ఓడించింది.  * మరోవైపు భారత్‌ ఖాతాలో అయిదు రజతాలు చేరాయి. మహిళల్లో చంచల్‌ చౌదరి (48 కేజీ), అంజలి కుమారి (57 కేజీ), విని (60 కేజీ), ఆకాంశ (70 కేజీ).. పురుషుల్లో రాహుల్‌ కుందు (75 కేజీ) ఫైనల్లో ఓడి రెండో స్థానంలో నిలిచారు.

National Stock Exchange of India

♦ The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) said it has crossed the milestone of 20 crore client accounts in October 2024. Among States, Maharashtra leads with the highest number of accounts at 3.6 crore, followed by Uttar Pradesh (2.2 crore), Gujarat (1.8 crore), Rajasthan and West Bengal at 1.2 crore each.  ♦ Together, these States account for nearly 50% of total client accounts, while the top 10 States account for approximately three-fourths of the total. Additionally, the unique registered investor base now stands at 10.5 crore, having crossed the 10-crore (100 million) mark on August 8, 2024.
