Kirti Vardhan Singh

♦ Minister of State for Environment, Kirti Vardhan Singh launched India’s updated National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) at the 16th meeting of the Conference of Parties (COP 16) in Colombia. ♦ The minister emphasized the need to provide means of implementation, including financial resources for implementation of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan.  ♦ India has updated its National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan with its targets aligned with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, he informed while delivering the National Statement at COP16 at Cali. ♦ Singh also announced that India’s Ramsar sites have expanded from 26 to 85 since 2014 and will soon reach 100, a testament to India’s focus on wetlands conservation.  ♦ The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), adopted in 1992, aims to conserve biodiversity, promote its sustainable use, and ensure equitable sharing of genetic resource benefits. ♦ To fulfill these goals, the CBD requires each member country to develop a National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP), a tailored framework for protecting and managing biodiversity based on national priorities.

Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC)

♦ The presidential candidate of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) Duma Boko was declared Botswana’s sixth president. Botswana’s Chief Justice Terence Rannowane made this announcement. ♦ He was born in 1969 in the small town of Mahalapye. ♦ According to the southern African country’s electoral law, the polling will determine 61 members of the National Assembly and 609 local councillors, with the party that holds at least 31 parliament seats to be declared as the winner. ♦ While the counting is yet to be finalised, UDC has already secured 34 members of the National Assembly, and the ruling party, the Botswana Democratic Party, got four seats.

VAJRA PRAHAR

♦ The 15th India-US joint Special Forces Exercise VAJRA PRAHAR began at Orchard Combat Training Centre in Idaho, US on 2 October 2024. ♦ It will conclude on 22 November. The last edition of the same exercise was conducted at Umroi, Meghalaya in December 2023.  ♦ The aim of this exercise is to promote military cooperation between India and the US through the enhancement of interoperability, jointness and mutual exchange of special operations tactics. It will enhance combined capabilities in executing joint Special Forces Operations in desert and semi desert environment. The exercise will focus on high degree of physical fitness, joint planning and joint tactical drills. ♦ This is the second exercise of the year between Indian and the US Army. The previous exercise – YUDH ABHYAS 2024, was conducted in Rajasthan in September 2024.

Praveena Rai

♦ Praveena Rai has assumed office as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) of Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) for a five-year term. ♦ She succeeds P S Reddy, who completed his five-year tenure in May 2024. MCX is India's largest commodity derivatives exchange. ♦ Prior to joining MCX, Rai served as the CEO at National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), where she spearheaded marketing, business development, product management, and operations strategy.

S.G.K. Kishore

♦ S.G.K. Kishore was appointed as the new president of Airport Council International (ACI) Asia Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC & MID) on 2 November 2024. He is the Executive Director and Chief Innovation Officer of GMR Airports. ♦ Kishore succeeds Emmanuel Menanteau, Board Director of Cambodia Airports/Regional Director, VINCI Airports. The new president will assume charge on 1 January 2025, for a two-year term.  ♦ As President, Mr. Kishore will be at the forefront of supporting and driving this growth. His leadership will focus on enhancing regional standards, fostering collaboration among members, and addressing challenges unique to this rapidly expanding aviation landscape.  ♦ ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC & MID) represents the interests of over 600 airports in 47 member countries/territories. The Asia-Pacific & Middle East region is projected to experience rapid growth in air travel, with passenger traffic estimated to grow from the current 3.4 billion to 9.7 billion by 2042—nearly half of global passenger traffic.

Krisha Verma

♦ India’s Krisha Verma clinched a gold medal in the women's 75kg category at the U19 World Boxing Championships in Colorado, USA on 2 November 2024. ♦ She defeated Lerika Simon of Germany in the final.  ♦ Chanchal Chaudhary (women's 48kg), Anjali Kumari Singh (women's 57kg), Vini (women's 60kg), Akanksha Phalaswal (women's 70kg) and Rahul Kundu (men's 75kg) won silver medals in the championships.

బీసీ రిజర్వేషన్ల ఖరారుకు ప్రత్యేక కమిషన్‌

స్థానిక సంస్థల ఎన్నికల్లో బీసీ రిజర్వేషన్ల ఖరారుకు తెలంగాణ రాష్ట్ర ప్రభుత్వం ప్రత్యేక కమిషన్‌ను ఏర్పాటు చేసింది. దీనికి ఛైర్మన్‌గా విశ్రాంత ఐఏఎస్‌ అధికారి బూసాని వెంకటేశ్వరరావును 2024, నవంబరు 4న నియమించింది. కార్యదర్శిగా బీసీ గురుకుల సొసైటీ కార్యదర్శి బి.సైదులు వ్యవహరిస్తారు. రాష్ట్రంలోని స్థానిక సంస్థల్లో బీసీల వెనకబాటుతనం, స్వభావం, చిక్కులపై లోతైన సమకాలీన అధ్యయనం చేయాలని, రాజ్యాంగంలోని నిబంధనలు, సుప్రీంకోర్టు మార్గదర్శకాలకు లోబడి స్థానిక సంస్థల వారీగా దామాషా పద్ధతిలో కల్పించాల్సిన రిజర్వేషన్లను ప్రతిపాదించాలని కమిషన్‌కు ప్రభుత్వం సూచించింది. నెల రోజుల్లో సమగ్ర నివేదికను అందించాలని పేర్కొంది.

విదేశీ ఫండ్లలోనూ పెట్టుబడులు

భారత సెక్యూరిటీస్‌ల్లో పెట్టుబడులున్న విదేశీ మ్యూచువల్‌ ఫండ్‌ సంస్థలు లేదా యూనిట్‌ ట్రస్టుల్లో పెట్టుబడులు పెట్టేందుకు దేశీయ మ్యూచువల్‌ ఫండ్‌ సంస్థలకు మార్కెట్ల నియంత్రణ సంస్థ సెబీ అనుమతి ఇచ్చింది. అయితే భారత సెక్యూరిటీస్‌ల్లో విదేశీ ఫండ్‌ సంస్థల పెట్టుబడులు వాటి మొత్తం నికర నిర్వహణ ఆస్తుల్లో 25 శాతానికి మించకూడదనే షరతుపైనే ఈ అనుమతులు ఇస్తున్నట్లు సెబీ తెలిపింది.  ఒకవేళ విదేశీ సంస్థల పెట్టుబడి పరిమితి 25 శాతాన్ని మించితే, పోర్ట్‌ఫోలియోను రీబ్యాలెన్సింగ్‌ చేసేందుకు దేశీయ ఫండ్‌ సంస్థలకు ఆరు నెలల కాలావధి లభిస్తుంది. ఈ పరిశీలనా కాలంలో విదేశీ ఫండ్‌ సంస్థల్లో అవి కొత్తగా పెట్టుబడులు పెట్టకూడదు. భారత సెక్యూరిటీస్‌ల్లో విదేశీ సంస్థల పెట్టుబడి మళ్లీ 25% లోపునకు దిగివచ్చాకే, తిరిగి తమ పెట్టుబడులను దేశీయ ఫండ్‌ సంస్థలు పునరుద్ధరించే అవకాశం ఉంటుంది. ఈ నిబంధన తక్షణమే అమల్లోకి వస్తుందని సెబీ తెలిపింది.

సైనిక ఉపగ్రహాన్ని ప్రయోగించిన జపాన్‌

కమ్యూనికేషన్లను వేగంగా సాగించడానికి, సైనిక కార్యకలాపాలకు ఉపయోగించడానికి జపాన్‌ 2024, నవంబరు 4న కిరామెకి-3 అనే ఉపగ్రహాన్ని విజయవంతంగా ప్రయోగించింది. కొత్తగా రూపొందించిన హెచ్‌3 రాకెట్‌ను ఇందుకోసం ఉపయోగించింది. తనేగాషిమా అంతరిక్ష కేంద్రం నుంచి ఈ ప్రయోగం జరిగింది.  ఇది సమాచారం, డేటా బదలాయింపు, సైనిక కార్యాకలాపాల కోసం ఎక్స్‌-బ్యాండ్‌ కమ్యూనికేషన్‌ను ఉపయోగిస్తుంది. ప్రతికూల వాతావరణ పరిస్థితుల్లోనూ కమ్యూనికేషన్లు సాగించడానికి ఇది దోహదపడుతుంది.

నిదా అంజుమ్‌

ఎఫ్‌ఈఐ ఎండ్యూరెన్స్‌ వరల్డ్‌ ఛాంపియన్‌షిప్‌ (సీనియర్స్‌) టైటిల్‌ నెగ్గిన మొదటి భారతీయురాలుగా నిదా అంజుమ్‌ (22) రికార్డు సృష్టించింది. మొత్తం 40 దేశాల నుంచి 118 మంది పాల్గొన్న పోటీలో ఆమె విజేతగా నిలిచింది. నిదా తన గుర్రమైన పెట్రాడెల్‌రేపై రైడ్‌ చేస్తూ 160 కి.మీ కోర్సును కేవలం 10 గంటల 23 నిమిషాల్లో పూర్తి చేసి ప్రపంచ ఛాంపియన్‌షిప్‌ని గెలుచుకుంది. ఈ ఘనత సాధించిన తొలి భారతీయురాలే కాదు, అతిపిన్న వయస్కురాలు కూడా నిదానే.  ఈక్వెస్ట్రియన్‌ క్రీడాకారిణి అయిన నిదా స్వస్థలం కేరళలోని మలప్పురం దగ్గర్లోని తిరూర్‌. ఎఫ్‌ఈఐ మార్గదర్శకాల ప్రకారం ఈక్వెస్ట్రియన్‌ క్రీడలు నడుస్తాయి.
