♦ K. Vijayanand took over as the Chief Secretary to the Government of Andhra Pradesh on 31 December 2024. He is a 1992-batch IAS officer. He replaced Neerabh Kumar Prasad. ♦ Vijayanand has been serving as special chief secretary energy department and also chairman and managing director of AP TRANSCO since 2023 and chairman of AP GENCO since 2022. He was the chairperson of the Southern Regional Power Committee for the year 2023-24.
♦ Pakistan’s Punjab government has opened to tourists the Bhagat Singh Gallery at the historical Poonch House. The gallery houses historical documents, including pictures, letters, newspapers, details of the trial and other memorial articles related to his life and freedom struggle. ♦ Singh, 23, was hanged by British rulers in Lahore on March 23, 1931, after being tried under charges for hatching a conspiracy against the colonial government.
China has unveiled the world’s fastest high-speed train prototype - CR450. It has reached test speeds of 450 km/h, surpassing all existing models to become the fastest train globally. It is significantly faster than the CR400 Fuxing high-speed rail (HSR) currently in service, which operates at speeds of 350 kmph.
♦ The 18th edition of India and Nepal joint military exercise 'Surya Kiran' was began on 31 December 2024. The exercise, taking place at the Nepal Army Battle School, Saljhandi in the Shivalik ranges of Western Nepal, will be conducted till January 13. The annual training event is conducted alternatively in the two countries. ♦ The exercise aims to enhance interoperability in jungle warfare, counter-terrorism operations in mountains and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief under the United Nations Charter. ♦ The 17th edition of the joint exercise was held in Pithoragarh, India from 24th November to 07th December 2023.
♦ India’s fiscal deficit for the first 8 months from April to November of the current financial year (2024-25) is estimated at Rs.8.47 lakh crore which works out to 52.5 percent of the estimate for the financial year. Net tax receipts for the first eight months of the current financial year were at Rs.14.43 lakh crore, or 56 per cent of the annual target, up from Rs.14.36 lakh crore for the same period last year, the data showed. ♦ Total government expenditure for the eight months was Rs.27.41lakh crore which constitutes 57 percent of the annual target fixed in the Union Budget. The government spent Rs.26.52 lakh crore in the same period last year. ♦ The government aims to bring down the fiscal deficit to 4.9 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) in the current financial year from 5.6 percent in 2023-24. The government aims to contain the fiscal deficit at Rs.16.13 lakh crore during the current fiscal.
ఈ ఆర్థిక సంవత్సరం (2024-25) తొలి 8 నెలల్లో (ఏప్రిల్‌-నవంబరు) ద్రవ్య లోటు వార్షిక లక్ష్యంలో 52.5 శాతానికి చేరిందని ప్రభుత్వం 2024, డిసెంబరు 31న ప్రకటించింది. ప్రభుత్వ వ్యయాలు, ఆదాయానికి మధ్య వ్యత్యాసమే ద్రవ్య లోటు. కంట్రోలర్‌ జనరల్‌ ఆఫ్‌ అకౌంట్స్‌ (సీజీఏ) విడుదల చేసిన గణాంకాల ప్రకారం ద్రవ్య లోటు రూ.8.47 లక్షల కోట్లకు చేరింది. కేంద్ర బడ్జెట్‌లో ప్రభుత్వం ద్రవ్య లోటును 2024-25లో స్థూల దేశీయోత్పత్తి (జీడీపీ)లో 4.9 శాతానికి తగ్గించాలని లక్ష్యంగా పెట్టుకుంది. విలువ పరంగా రూ.16,13,312 కోట్లకు పరిమితం చేయాలనుకుంటోంది. 2023-24లో ఇది జీడీపీలో 5.6 శాతంగా నమోదైంది.

కేంద్ర హోంశాఖ తన 2023-24 వార్షిక నివేదికను 2024, డిసెంబరు 31న విడుదల చేసింది. దీని ప్రకారం భారత సముద్ర తీరం పొడవు 48% పెరిగింది. ఇండియన్‌ నావల్‌ హైడ్రోగ్రాఫిక్‌ ఆఫీస్, సర్వే ఆఫ్‌ ఇండియా 1970 డేటా ప్రకారం దేశంలోని 9 రాష్ట్రాలు, 4 కేంద్రపాలిత ప్రాంతాల సముద్రతీరం పొడవు 7,516 కిలోమీటర్ల మేర ఉండగా, తాజాగా నేషనల్‌ మారిటైం సెక్యూరిటీ కో-ఆర్డినేటర్‌ నిర్దేశించిన విధివిధానాల ప్రకారం నిర్వహించిన రీ-వెరిఫికేషన్‌లో ఈ పొడవు 11,098.81 కిలోమీటర్లుగా లెక్కతేలింది. గతంలో నేరుగా ఉన్న దూరాన్నే తీసుకోగా.. రీవెరిఫికేషన్‌లో మలుపులు, వంపులను కూడా లెక్కించడంతో ఈ మొత్తం ఉన్నట్లు తేలింది. ఇందులో ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్‌ తీరప్రాంత పొడవు 973.70 కిలోమీటర్ల నుంచి 1,053.07 కిలోమీటర్లకు (8.15%) పెరిగింది. తమిళనాడు తీరం పొడవు 906.90 కి.మీ. నుంచి 1,068.69 కి.మీ.కి చేరింది. గుజరాత్‌ తీరం అత్యధికంగా 92.69%, అండమాన్‌ నికోబార్‌ దీవుల తీరం 57.16% మేర పెరిగింది.
ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్‌ రాష్ట్ర ప్రభుత్వ ప్రధాన కార్యదర్శిగా కె.విజయానంద్‌ 2024, డిసెంబరు 31న బాధ్యతలు స్వీకరించారు. ఇప్పటివరకు సీఎస్‌గా సేవలందించిన నీరబ్‌కుమార్‌ అదే రోజు పదవీ విరమణ చేశారు. ఆయన స్థానంలో విజయానంద్‌ బాధ్యతలు చేపట్టారు. 2025 నవంబరు వరకు విజయానంద్‌ ఈ పదవిలో ఉంటారు.
