ఆసియా టేబుల్‌ టెన్నిస్‌లో మహిళల డబుల్స్‌లో ఐహిక ముఖర్జీ, సుతీర్థ ముఖర్జీ జంట కంచు పతకం సొంతం చేసుకుంది. 2024, అక్టోబరు 13న ఆస్తానా (కజకిస్థాన్‌)లో జరిగిన సెమీఫైనల్లో ఐహిక-సుతీర్థ ద్వయం 4-11, 9-11, 8-11తో మివా హరిమోటో-మియూ కిహారా (జపాన్‌) జోడీ చేతిలో ఓడింది. ఆసియా టేబుల్‌ టెన్నిస్‌ చరిత్రలో మహిళల డబుల్స్‌లో భారత్‌కు దక్కిన తొలి పతకమిదే. 1972లో ఈ టోర్నీ మొదలయ్యాక మహిళల డబుల్స్, టీమ్‌ విభాగాల్లో పతకాలు నెగ్గడం ఇదే తొలిసారి.
ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా 15 నుంచి 24 సంవత్సరాల వయసున్న యువతరంపై అంతర్జాతీయ కార్మిక సంస్థ (ఐఎల్‌ఓ) సర్వే చేసింది. ఇందులో భాగంగా నీట్‌ (నాట్‌ ఇన్‌ ఎడ్యుకేషన్, ఎంప్లాయ్‌మెంట్, ట్రైనింగ్‌- చదువు, కొలువు, శిక్షణలో లేనివారు) విభాగంలో ఏయే ఏదేశాల్లో ఎంత మంది ఉన్నారో అధ్యయనం చేశారు. ఆ లెక్కల ప్రకారం... నీట్‌ (చదువు, కొలువు, శిక్షణలో లేనివారు) కేటగిరీలో యువతరం సంఖ్య గతంతో పోలిస్తే భారత్‌లో తగ్గుతూ వస్తుంది. 2019లో నీట్‌లో భాగమైన యువతరం సంఖ్య భారత్‌లో 31.2 శాతం కాగా... 2023లో అది 23.5 శాతానికి తగ్గింది. అయినప్పటికీ 2023లో ప్రపంచ సగటు (20.4%) కంటే భారత్‌లోనే ఎక్కువ (23.5%) మంది ఈ విభాగంలో ఉన్నట్లు ఐఎల్‌ఓ అధ్యయనం తేల్చింది.
పోషకాహార లోపం, శిశు మరణాల ఆధారంగా ఆకలి బాధను అంచనా వేసే ప్రపంచ ఆకలి సూచీ (జీహెచ్‌ఐ) భారత్‌ను ఆందోళనకర దేశాల జాబితాలో చేర్చింది. 127 దేశాలకు జీహెచ్‌ఐ ర్యాంకులు ఇవ్వగా 27.3 స్కోర్‌తో భారత్‌ 105వ స్థానంలో నిలిచింది. 2024 జీహెచ్‌ఐ నివేదికను కన్సర్న్‌ వరల్డ్‌వైడ్, వెల్త్‌హంగర్‌హిల్ఫే ఇటీవల ప్రచురించాయి. భారత్‌ జనాభాలో 13.7 శాతం మంది పోషకాహార లోపంతో బాధపడుతున్నారని, ఐదేళ్లలోపు చిన్నారుల్లో 35.5 శాతం మంది వయసుకు తగ్గ ఎత్తు కంటే తక్కువగా ఉన్నారని, 18.7 శాతం మంది ఎత్తుకు తగ్గ బరువు లేరని ఈ నివేదిక వెల్లడించింది.
