Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT)

♦ The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has partnered with Flipkart and signed an MoU with the former to support and empower tech start-ups across India. ♦ Aimed at encouraging the growth of innovators and entrepreneurs, the partnership further catapults on existing efforts under the Flipkart Leap and Ventures initiative with its USD 100 mn fund. ♦ The collaboration will enable access for startups to industry reports, research papers, datasets and other studies published by government authorities for market research and fast-track patent applications filed by startups for timely opportunities.

National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT)

♦ US tech giant Google has partnered with the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to launch YouTube channels in 29 Indian languages, including sign language. ♦ This initiative aims to provide free educational content to the Indian students between grades 1-12 and to empower teachers.  ♦ Under this initiative, the NCERT will launch the YouTube channels and develop the educational content supported by Google. ♦ This collaboration offers learners the opportunity to explore and complete courses across a wide range of subjects, including pure sciences, literature, sports psychology, and rocket propulsion.

International Football Federation (FIFA)

♦ International Football Federation (FIFA) has announced that Saudi Arabia will host the 2034 Men’s Football World Cup. ♦ While Spain, Portugal, and Morocco will jointly host the 2030 tournament. The host nations for both World Cups were confirmed at FIFA’s Extraordinary Congress meeting  on 11 December 2024. ♦ The meeting, conducted via video link, was attended by representatives from all 211 FIFA member nations.  ♦ To mark the 100th anniversary of the World Cup, three matches in the 2030 tournament will also be held in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay. ♦ This will be the first time Saudi Arabia hosts the World Cup, and the second time the tournament will be held in the Middle East.

Sanjay Malhotra

♦ Sanjay Malhotra took charge as the 26th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India on 11 December 2024 for a three-year term. ♦ He replaced Shaktikanta Das, whose tenure ended on December 10. Sanjay is a 1990-batch IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre. He is a former Revenue Secretary. ♦ He had earlier worked as the Chairman and Managing Director of state-run Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) Limited.

Asian Development Bank (ADB)

♦ The Asian Development Bank (ADB) lowered its India growth forecast for the current financial year (FY25) to 6.5 percent from 7 percent earlier. It also revised downwards its forecast for FY26 to 7 percent from 7.2 percent earlier. ♦ As a result, the growth forecasts for South Asia have also been revised downwards to 5.9 per cent for 2024 and 6.3 per cent for 2025.

National Panchayat Awards 2024

♦ The President of India, Droupadi Murmu conferred the National Panchayat Awards 2024 at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on 11 December 2024. ♦ A total of 45 Panchayats from diverse regions were honoured in recognition of their exemplary work in rural development.   ♦ The primary objective of these awards was to promote and acknowledge the contributions of Panchayats in the socio-economic development of rural India, and to motivate other Panchayats to adopt best practices for inclusive growth and sustainable development. జీడీపీ వృద్ధి 6.5%

ప్రస్తుత ఆర్థిక సంవత్సరం (2024-25)లో భారత జీడీపీ వృద్ధి 6.5 శాతానికి పరిమితం కావొచ్చని ఆసియా అభివృద్ధి బ్యాంక్‌ (ఏడీబీ) అంచనా వేసింది. ఇంతకు ముందు వృద్ధి 7 శాతంగా ఉండొచ్చని ఏడీబీ అంచనా వేయగా, ప్రస్తుతం కోత విధించింది. ప్రైవేట్‌ పెట్టుబడులు, ఇళ్ల గిరాకీ అంచనా కంటే తక్కువగా ఉండటమే ఇందుకు కారణమని పేర్కొంది. వచ్చే ఆర్థిక సంవత్సర (2025-26) వృద్ధి అంచనాలను కూడా 7.2% నుంచి 7 శాతానికి సంస్థ సవరించింది.  2024లో ఆసియా, పసిఫిక్‌ దేశాల వృద్ధి 4.9% ఉండొచ్చని ఏడీబీ అంచనా వేసింది. 2024, సెప్టెంబరు అంచనాలో ఇది 5 శాతంగా ఉంది.

ఆర్‌బీఐ గవర్నర్‌గా సంజయ్‌ మల్హోత్రా

రిజర్వ్‌ బ్యాంక్‌ ఆఫ్‌ ఇండియా (ఆర్‌బీఐ) 26వ గవర్నర్‌గా సంజయ్‌ మల్హోత్రా 2024, డిసెంబరు 11న బాధ్యతలు స్వీకరించారు. డిప్యూటీ గవర్నర్లు స్వామినాథన్, ఎం. రాజేశ్వర్‌ రావు, టి.రవి శంకర్‌ సమక్షంలో మల్హోత్రా బాధ్యతల స్వీకారం నిమిత్తం పత్రాలపై సంతకాలు చేశారు. సంజయ్‌ ఇప్పటిదాకా రెవెన్యూ కార్యదర్శిగా పనిచేశారు.

భారత్, చైనా, అమెరికాల్లో 60% పర్యాటక ఉద్గారాలు

ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా 60 శాతం పర్యాటక ఉద్గారాల పెంపుదలకు భారత్, చైనా, అమెరికా దేశాలు కారణమవుతున్నాయని ఆస్ట్రేలియాలోని యూనివర్సిటీ ఆఫ్‌ క్వీన్స్‌ల్యాండ్‌ పరిశోధకుల అధ్యయనంలో తేలింది. 2009 నుంచి 2019 మధ్య పదేళ్ల కాలవ్యవధితో జరిపిన ఈ అధ్యయనం అత్యధిక జనాభా, రవాణాపరంగా ఎక్కువ డిమాండు ఉన్న దేశాల్లో ఈ పరిస్థితులు ఉన్నట్లు పేర్కొంది.  గత దశాబ్దకాలంలో చైనా దేశీయ పర్యాటక వ్యయం ఏడాదికి 17 శాతం చొప్పున పెరిగింది. తద్వారా ప్రపంచ ఉద్గారాలను 0.4 గిగా టన్నుల మేర చైనా పెంచింది. అమెరికా దేశీయ పర్యాటకం 0.2 గిగా టన్నులు, భారత్‌ 0.1 గిగా టన్నుల మేర ప్రపంచ ఉద్గారాలను పెంచినట్లు అధ్యయనం వెల్లడించింది.

‘ఇండియా ఇన్‌ ఫ్యూచర్‌టెన్స్‌’

దేశానికి స్వాతంత్య్రం సిద్ధించి 2047 నాటికి వందేళ్లు పూర్తవనున్న నేపథ్యంలో యునైటెడ్‌ నేషన్స్‌ ఫౌండేషన్, కౌన్సిల్‌ ఆఫ్‌ ఎనర్జీ, ఎన్విరాన్‌మెంట్‌ అండ్‌ వాటర్‌ (సీఈఈడబ్ల్యూ) సంయుక్తంగా రూపొందిస్తున్న నిఘంటువుకు 47 పదాలను గుర్తించారు. ‘ఇండియా ఇన్‌ ఫ్యూచర్‌ టెన్స్‌: 47 వర్డ్స్‌ ఫర్‌ 2047’ పేరుతో రూపొందిస్తున్న నిఘంటువులో బ్లూకార్బన్, కల్చర్నామిక్స్, డిజిటల్‌ నోమడ్, 15 మినిట్‌ సిటీ, ఫ్లాక్స్‌ వంటి 47 పదాలు చోటు దక్కించుకున్నాయి. భారతావనికి స్వేచ్ఛ లభించి వందేళ్లు పూర్తయ్యే సమయానికి ఎలాంటి పోకడలు ఉంటాయి, దేశ ప్రయాణాన్ని నిర్వచించే విలువలు వంటి అంశాలను ఈ నిఘంటువు గుర్తిస్తుంది.
