BioAsia 2026 international summit

♦ Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy inaugurated the 23rd edition of BioAsia 2026 international summit on 17 February 2026. The two-day global conference will be held at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC). This year’s summit is themed ‘TechBio Unleashed – AI, Automation, and the Revolutionary Changes in Life Sciences.’  ♦ BioAsia has grown into one of Asia’s premier life sciences forums, fostering partnerships, technology transfer, and policy dialogue. This year’s summit has drawn 500 companies and over 4,000 delegates from across the world. During the inaugural ceremony, the Chief Minister presented the Genome Valley Excellence Award 2026 to University of Pennsylvania professor Bruce L. Levine , a pioneer in cell and gene therapy.

♦ Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Tarique Rahman was sworn in as Bangladesh’s Prime Minister on 17 February 2026. He is the son of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and assassinated President Ziaur Rahman. Breaking with tradition, the swearing‑in ceremony was held under the open sky at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, the national parliament building, instead of the Bangabhaban, the president’s official residence where such events are usually organised. ♦ President Mohammed Shahabuddin officiated as Rahman and his cabinet took their oaths. ♦ Rahman’s BNP secured a commanding two‑thirds majority, returning to power after nearly two decades. The Islamist party Jamaat‑e‑Islami, contesting its first election since a 2013 ban was lifted following Hasina’s ouster, won a record 68 seats. ♦ Hasina’s Awami League party was banned from contesting after its registration was revoked by the Election Commission.

SVAMITVA Scheme

♦ The number of registered drones in the country crossing the 38,500 mark and as many as 39,890 DGCA-certified remote pilots in the country (as of February 2026), according to Government data released on 17 February 2026. Over 240 approved training organisations have also been set up to provide skilled manpower for operating and maintaining the drones. ♦ Under the SVAMITVA Scheme, 3.28 lakh villages have been surveyed using drones, and 2.76 crore property cards have been prepared for 1.82 lakh villages across 31 states. ♦ As many as 1,094 drones have been distributed to women SHGs (self-help groups) including over 500 under Namo Drone Didi initiative, enhancing farm productivity and livelihoods, according to official figures.

♦ Corporate Infotech Pvt. Ltd. (CIPL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Bihar for a major investment in the State’s Information Technology sector. The MoU was signed during the India AI Summit, in the presence of senior leadership from the Bihar Government.   ♦ Under the MoU, CIPL will establish a Core Development Centre along with an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Patna, aimed at strengthening Bihar’s digital governance ecosystem and positioning the State as an emerging IT and Artificial Intelligence hub in Eastern India. ♦ As per the detailed investment proposal submitted to the Government of Bihar, CIPL plans an initial investment of Rs.30 crore, which will be scaled up to Rs.100 crore in the coming years.  ♦ Established in 2007, CIPL has built a strong reputation as a trusted technology partner to Government departments and PSUs across India, with deep expertise in large-scale, mission-critical digital transformation programmes.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)

♦ The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced a first-of-its-kind initiative to create pollinator or “Bee Corridors” along national highways as part of its sustainable infrastructure programme. The project marks a shift from ornamental roadside plantations to ecological vegetation, with continuous stretches of bee-friendly plants and flowering trees aimed at ensuring year-round availability of nectar and pollen. ♦ The initiative is intended to address growing ecological stress on honeybees and other pollinators, which affects pollination services, agricultural productivity and ecological balance.

Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron

♦ Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with French President Emmanuel Macron at Maharashtra Lok Bhavan in Mumbai on 17 February 2026. India and France agreed to upgrade the India-France relationship to a Special Global Strategic Partnership. There were a total of 21 outcomes. Both sides agreed on the establishment of an annual Foreign Ministers Dialogue for regularly reviewing the implementation of the elevated partnership and Horizon 2047 Roadmap. Both nations agreed to the launch of the India-France Year of Innovation and the India-France Innovation Network. ♦ Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron virtually inaugurated the Final Assembly Line (FAL) for H125 helicopters in Vemagal Industrial Area in Kolar (near Bengaluru), Karnataka. This is India’s first private-sector helicopter manufacturing facility, and will initially produce 10 H125 helicopters annually, serving both domestic needs and export markets in neighbouring countries. The plant will initially produce 10 H125 helicopters per year, with the potential to scale up to meet a projected demand of 500 units over the next 20 years. The first “Made in India” H125 is expected to take off from this facility by early 2027.​ ♦ Thereafter, President Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron paid tribute to the victims of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. ♦ As India and France approach three decades of their strategic partnership, the relationship is entering a more ambitious and future-oriented phase under the Horizon 2047 roadmap. India established diplomatic relations with France in 1947, but the defining moment came on 26 January 1998, when the two countries launched a Strategic Partnership – India’s first with a Western nation and France’s first outside the European Union. Since then, ties have steadily expanded across defence, civil nuclear energy, space, technology, climate action and the Indo-Pacific. ♦ Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to France in July 2023 as Guest of Honour at the French National Day marked 25 years of the partnership. During the visit, both sides adopted the Horizon 2047 roadmap – a long-term blueprint aligned with the centenary of India’s independence and 100 years of diplomatic ties.

దేశాభివృద్ధిలో పర్యాటక రంగం కీలక భూమిక పోషిస్తుంది. ప్రపంచ అవగాహనను పెంపొందించడంలో, ఉద్యోగ - ఉపాధి కల్పనలో, సమ్మిళిత వృద్ధిని సాధించడంలో ఇది చాలా ముఖ్యం. సేవా రంగంలో ప్రధాన విభాగమైన పర్యాటకం అనేది ఆయా దేశాల్లో ఉండే విభిన్న సంస్కృతులు, ప్రజలు, వారసత్వం, కళలు, వంటలు, ప్రదేశాలపై ఆధారపడి ఉంటుంది. వాతావరణ మార్పు, ఆర్థిక మాంద్యం, మహమ్మారి (pandemics) పరిస్థితులు టూరిజానికి పెద్ద సవాళ్లు. వీటన్నింటినీ అధిగమించి పర్యాటక రంగం బలం, అనుకూలతలను చాటే లక్ష్యంతో ఏటా ఫిబ్రవరి 17న ‘ప్రపంచ పర్యాటక స్థితిస్థాపక దినోత్సవం’గా (Global Tourism Resilience Day) నిర్వహిస్తారు. ఆర్థిక వృద్ధి, సాంస్కృతిక మార్పిడి, పర్యావరణ స్థిరత్వాన్ని పెంపొందించగల టూరిజం రంగంపై అందరికీ అవగాహన కల్పించడంతోపాటు భవిష్యత్తులో వచ్చే అంతరాయాలను ఎదుర్కొనేలా వ్యూహాలు రచించడం ఈ రోజు ముఖ్య ఉద్దేశం. చారిత్రక నేపథ్యం ప్రపంచంలోని అనేక స్వల్ప, మధ్య ఆదాయ దేశాలకు పర్యాటక రంగమే ప్రధాన ఆదాయ వనరుగా ఉంది. స్థిరమైన, సమగ్ర అభివృద్ధిని సాధించాలంటే స్థితిస్థాపక పర్యాటకం అవసరం. అప్పుడే దేశీయ వనరుల సమీకరణ, పర్యావరణ పరిరక్షణ, పేదరికం - ఆకలి నిర్మూళన, జీవవైవిధ్యం, సహజ వనరుల రక్షణ, స్థిర వినియోగం లాంటివి సాధ్యమవుతాయి. ఈ కారణంగానే ఐక్యరాజ్యసమితి జనరల్‌ అసెంబ్లీ ఏటా ఫిబ్రవరి 17న ‘ప్రపంచ పర్యాటక స్థితిస్థాపక దినోత్సవం’గా జరుపుకోవాలని 2022, డిసెంబరు 22న ప్రకటించింది. 2023 నుంచి ప్రతి సవత్సరం దీన్ని నిర్వహిస్తున్నారు.  2026 నినాదం: Tourism Resilience in Action: From Crisis Response to Impactful Transformation
