10th World Ayurveda Congress (WAC 2024)

♦ Ministry of Ayush Prataprao Jadhav inaugurated the 10th World Ayurveda Congress (WAC 2024) and Arogya Expo in Dehradun on 12 December 2024. ♦ The theme for the WAC2024 is "Digital Health: An Ayurveda Perspective." The conference is held until 15 December. ♦ The event is organised by the World Ayurveda Foundation (WAF), an initiative of Vijnana Bharati. ♦ This year's (2024) edition of this landmark event is set to unite Ayurveda practitioners, researchers, and enthusiasts from around the globe. ♦ It is organised every two years. The first Ayurveda Conference was orgainsed in Kochi, Kerala, in 2002  and the 9th edition of the World Ayurveda Congress and Arogya Expo was held in Goa from 8-11 December 2022.

Bhavesh Jain

♦ Bhavesh Jain was appointed as Managing Director and CEO of TransUnion CIBIL on 12 December 2024. ♦ He replaced Rajesh Kumar, who recently resigned after five years. Jain has been promoted from the position of chief revenue officer in the company. ♦ He had previously worked at Thomson Reuters, Citi and Kone.

Ashok Raj Sigdel

♦ President Droupadi Murmu conferred the honorary rank of ‘General of Indian Army’ on Nepal’s Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel at a ceremony in New Delhi on 12 December 2024. ♦ The honour was given to him for his commendable military prowess and immeasurable contribution to further fostering Nepal’s long and friendly association with India. ♦ There has been a unique tradition of conferring the title of Honorary General on the army chiefs of Nepal and India since 1950.

D. Gukesh

♦ India’s D. Gukesh clinched the 2024 World Chess Championship on 12 December 2024, becoming the sport’s youngest-ever titleholder at 18. He defeated Ding Liren (China) in the final. ♦ Gukesh's victory in game 14 resulted in a final score of 7.5 against Ding's 6.5.  ♦ Gukesh's win surpasses the previous record held by Russia's Garry Kasparov, who claimed the title at 22.  ♦ Gukesh has become the second Indian to hold the World Chess Championship title, following in the footsteps of five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand.  ♦ Gukesh is only the third Asian to win the World championship. Viswanathan Anand, who is now a mentor for Gukesh, was the first, and Ding the second. ♦ He is also only the 18th World champion in history, which dates back to 1886.  ♦ Winner Gukesh received $1.35 million (approx. Rs.11.45 crore) in prize money, and runner-up Liren received $1.15 million (approx. Rs.9.75 crore).

Quick Impact Projects (QIPs)

♦ India and Nicaragua signed an umbrella agreement to implement Quick Impact Projects (QIPs) on 12 December 2024. ♦ The agreement was signed by Indian Ambassador to Panama, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica, Sumit Seth, and Nicaragua’s Foreign Minister, Valdrack Jaentschke, in the capital city of Managua. ♦ The MoU aims to deliver tangible benefits to local communities in Nicaragua by focusing on key areas such as physical infrastructure—roads and community centers—as well as social infrastructure, including education, healthcare, and sanitation. ♦ The Government of India will provide grant assistance for each QIP under this framework, ensuring immediate and visible improvements for the people of Nicaragua. ♦ The relations between India and Nicaragua have remained warm and cooperative since the establishment of diplomatic ties in March 1983. ♦ While India’s Embassy in Panama is concurrently accredited to Nicaragua, Nicaragua’s Embassy in Tokyo is concurrently accredited to India.

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)

♦ India has marked a significant achievement in its economic progress with foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows crossing the $1 trillion (Rs. 84 lakh crore) mark from April 2000 to September 2024. ♦ This milestone comes alongside a notable 26% increase in FDI, reaching $42.1 billion during the fiscal year's first half (2024-25). ♦ From April 2014 to September 2024, India saw $709.84 billion in FDI inflows, which accounted for nearly 69% of the total FDI received over the past 24 years. ♦ This underscores India’s growing role in the global economy.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL)

♦ The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the procurement of 12 Su-30MKI fighter aircraft on 12 December 2024. ♦ The agreement, valued at approximately Rs.13,500 crore.   ♦ The new Su-30MKIs will feature 62.6% indigenous content, a result of the indigenization of numerous components by the Indian defense industry. ♦ These aircraft are set to be manufactured at HAL’s Nasik division.   ♦ The Su-30MKI, a frontline fighter in the IAF, is known for its versatility and advanced combat capabilities.

ప్రపంచం ఎదుర్కొంటున్న సమస్యలకు తమదైన పరిష్కారం చూపుతున్న 25 మంది భారతీయ బాలలు 2024 డిసెంబరు 12న న్యూయార్క్‌లోని ఐక్యరాజ్యసమితి (ఐరాస) ప్రధాన కార్యాలయంలో తమ ప్రాజెక్టుల గురించి వివరించారు. సమితి గుర్తింపు ఉన్న 1ఎం1బి సంస్థ నిర్వహిస్తున్న ఎనిమిదో వార్షిక శిఖరాగ్ర సదస్సులో వారు పాల్గొన్నారు.   వీరిలో హైదరాబాద్‌కు చెందిన 14 ఏళ్ల సిద్ధార్థ్‌ మన్నేపల్లి కూడా ఉన్నాడు. అతడు బడుగు వర్గాలకు విద్యను అందించడానికి ఎడ్యుటెక్‌ సంస్థను నడుపుతున్నాడు.

రాస్‌నెఫ్ట్‌తో రిలయన్స్‌ ఇండస్ట్రీస్‌ ఒప్పందం

రోజుకు 5 లక్షల బ్యారెళ్ల (ఏడాదికి 25 మిలియన్‌ టన్నుల) చమురును పదేళ్లపాటు సరఫరా చేసే నిమిత్తం రష్యా ప్రభుత్వ రంగ చమురు సంస్థ రాస్‌నెఫ్ట్‌తో రిలయన్స్‌ ఇండస్ట్రీస్‌ ఒప్పందం కుదుర్చుకుంది. ఇప్పటివరకు రెండు దేశాల మధ్య జరిగిన ఇంధన ఒప్పందాల్లో ఇదే అతిపెద్దది.  10 ఏళ్ల ఒప్పందంలో భాగంగా, అంతర్జాతీయ సరఫరాలో 0.5% వాటాకు సమానమైన ముడిచమురును రిలయన్స్‌ ఇండస్ట్రీస్‌ దిగుమతి చేసుకోనుంది. ప్రస్తుత ధరల వద్ద చూస్తే, ఈ విలువ ఏడాదికి 12-13 బిలియన్‌ డాలర్ల (దాదాపు రూ.1.02 - 1.1 లక్షల కోట్ల) మేర ఉంటుంది.

సుఖోయ్‌ల కొనుగోలుకు హాల్‌తో ఒప్పందం

సుఖోయ్‌ యుద్ధ విమానాల కొనుగోలు కోసం హిందుస్థాన్‌ ఏరోనాటిక్స్‌ లిమిటెడ్‌తో (హాల్‌) రూ.13,500 కోట్ల ఒప్పందాన్ని రక్షణశాఖ కుదుర్చుకుంది. 2024, డిసెంబరు 12న కుదిరిన ఈ ఒప్పందం ద్వారా 12 సుఖోయ్‌ అత్యాధునిక యుద్ధ విమానాలు వాయుసేనకు అందుతాయి. రష్యాకు చెందిన ఈ విమానాల్లో 62.6 శాతం స్థానికంగా తయారైన విడిభాగాలనే వాడతారు.
