Prabowo Subianto

♦ Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will be the chief guest at India’s 76th Republic Day celebrations on January 26. ♦ The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced this on 16 January 2025. This will be Prabowo’s first visit to India since taking office as President of Indonesia in October 2024. ♦ India and Indonesia have a long history of ties that have developed into a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in recent years. ♦ Indonesia also plays a key role in India’s Act East Policy and its vision for the Indo-Pacific region.

♦ Former Saurashtra captain Sitanshu Kotak was appointed as the batting coach of the Indian cricket team on 16 January 2025. ♦ He played in first-class cricket for around 20 years and has been the batting coach at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) since 2019. ♦ He also has experience working as the head coach of several India A tours.

♦ Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the establishment of the 8th Central Pay Commission to revise salaries and benefits for central government employees on 16January 2025. ♦ The last pay commission, the 7th Central Pay Commission, was initiated in 2016 and is set to complete its term in 2026.  ♦ The pay commission plays a vital role in determining salary structures, allowances, and other benefits for government employees. ♦ Its recommendations directly impact millions of workers and pensioners across India.

Third Launch Pad (TLP)

♦ The Union Cabinet approved the establishment of a Third Launch Pad (TLP) at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh on 16 January 2025. ♦ The TLP project is projected to take four years to complete, with a total cost of Rs. 3984.86 crore, which includes the establishment of the launch pad and related infrastructure. ♦ The new launch pad aims to support the next generation of Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) launch vehicles and enhance the country’s capacity for human spaceflight missions. ♦ The TLP will be designed to support ISRO’s upcoming Next Generation Launch Vehicles (NGLV) and serve as a backup for the existing Second Launch Pad (SLP) at Sriharikota. ♦ This new infrastructure will play a critical role in improving India’s launch capabilities, paving the way for future space exploration, including the country’s ambitious human spaceflight programs. ♦ Currently, ISRO relies on two existing launch pads: the First Launch Pad (FLP), operational for 30 years, and the Second Launch Pad (SLP), which has been in use for nearly 20 years. ♦ These pads have supported significant missions, including Chandrayaan-3 and commercial launches.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)

♦ The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced on 16 January 2025 that India has successfully achieved space docking. ♦ With this latest achievement, India joins the ranks of only three other countries - Russia, the United States, and China - that have successfully conducted space docking. The docking was part of the SpaDeX mission, a significant milestone for India’s space exploration program. ♦ Post-docking, ISRO reported that control of the two satellites as a single object was successfully established. The organization also noted that undocking and power transfer checks would follow in the coming days. ♦ The SpaDeX mission also aimed to showcase the transfer of electric power between the docked spacecraft, a technology that will be vital for in-space robotics, spacecraft control, and payload operations following undocking. ♦ On December 30, ISRO had launched the PSLV-C60 rocket carrying SpaDeX along with other innovative payloads.

♦ The Indian Armed Forces are conducting a major military exercise, Exercise Devil Strike, from January 16 to 19, 2025. Thi is a joint exercise involving the elite airborne soldiers from the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force. ♦ The exercise will occur at the training areas and firing ranges, validating critical drills and enhancing operational readiness in a challenging environment. ♦ Exercise Devil Strike underscores the Indian Armed Forces' commitment to maintaining operational excellence and adaptability in the ever-evolving military landscape. ♦ The Exercise will enhance the readiness of both services, preparing them for future challenges.

♦ Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam bestowed the country’s Honorary Citizen Award on former Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) head Tarun Das for his outstanding contribution to strengthening bilateral relations.  ♦ The Honorary Citizenship Award is the highest recognition by the Singapore government for a non-Singaporean. It is awarded to individuals who have made significant impact in fields such as business, science and technology, education, health, arts and culture, and community service.

ఐటీఈతో స్కిల్స్‌ యూనివర్సిటీ ఒప్పందం

సింగపూర్‌ ప్రభుత్వ ఆధ్వర్యంలోని ఇన్‌స్టిట్యూట్‌ ఆఫ్‌ టెక్నికల్‌ ఎడ్యుకేషన్‌(ఐటీఈ)తో తెలంగాణ రాష్ట్ర ప్రభుత్వ ఆధ్వర్యంలోని యంగ్‌ ఇండియా స్కిల్స్‌ యూనివర్సిటీ అవగాహన ఒప్పందం కుదుర్చుకొంది. విద్యార్థులు, యువతకు నైపుణ్య శిక్షణనిచ్చి ఉద్యోగ సంసిద్ధులుగా తీర్చిదిద్దేందుకు ఈ ఒప్పందం దోహదపడనుంది.  ముఖ్యమంత్రి రేవంత్‌రెడ్డి ఆధ్వర్యంలో ప్రతినిధి బృందం 2025, జనవకి 17న నుంచి సింగపూర్‌ పర్యటన చేపట్టగా, మొదటి రోజునే ఈ ఎంవోయూ కుదిరింది. స్కిల్స్‌ యూనివర్సిటీ వైస్‌ ఛాన్సలర్‌ సుబ్బారావు, ఐటీఈ డిప్యూటీ డైరెక్టర్‌ ఫాబియన్‌ చియాంగ్‌ ఒప్పంద పత్రాలను మార్చుకున్నారు.

పాక్‌ ఉపగ్రహాన్ని ప్రయోగించిన చైనా

పాకిస్థాన్‌కు చెందిన ఉపగ్రహాన్ని చైనా 2025, జనవరి 17న ప్రయోగించింది. జియుక్వాన్‌ ఉపగ్రహ కేంద్రం నుంచి చేపట్టిన ఈ ప్రయోగంలో లాంగ్‌మార్చ్‌-2డీ రాకెట్‌ పాక్‌కు చెందిన పీఆర్‌ఎస్‌సీ-ఈఏ1 ఉపగ్రహాన్ని కక్ష్యలో ప్రవేశపెట్టింది. ఇదే రాకెట్‌ టియాన్లు-1, లాన్‌టన్‌-1 అనే మరో రెండు ఉపగ్రహాలనూ మోసుకెళ్లింది. ఈ ప్రయోగం లాంగ్‌మార్చ్‌ రాకెట్‌ 556వ ఫ్లైట్ మిషన్‌.

చైనా జనాభా తగ్గుదల

చైనా జనాభాలో వరుసగా మూడో ఏడాదీ తగ్గుదల నమోదైంది. 2024 సంవత్సరం చివరి నాటికి చైనాలో 140.8 కోట్ల జనాభా ఉంది. 2023తో పోలిస్తే 13.9 లక్షల మేర జనాభా తగ్గిపోయింది. ఈ గణాంకాలను చైనా ప్రభుత్వం 2025, జనవరి 17న విడుదల చేసింది.  జనాభా తగ్గిపోతున్న జపాన్, దక్షిణ కొరియా, హాంకాంగ్, తూర్పు ఐరోపా దేశాల జాబితాలో మూడేళ్ల క్రితమే చైనా చేరిపోయింది. చైనా జనాభాలో 22 శాతం మంది(31.30 కోట్లు) 60 ఏళ్లకు పైబడిన వారే ఉన్నట్లు గణాంకాలు చెబుతున్నాయి.
