Vice Admiral K Srinivas has taken charge

♦ Vice Admiral K Srinivas has taken charge as Director General Naval Projects (DGNP), Visakhapatnam, after completing his tenure as Admiral Superintendent, Naval Dockyard. Commissioned into the Navy on January 1, 1990, he is an alumnus of Sainik School, Korukonda, and the NDA. ♦ Over his 35-year career, he served aboard INS Viraat and oversaw INS Vikramaditya's refit in Russia. He also held key roles including CEO, HQWNC; Principal Director, Aircraft Carrier Projects; and Fleet Maintenance at Naval HQ. ♦ He earlier commanded INS Shivaji, the Navy's premier engineering training base. Before assuming DGNP, he served as Assistant Chief of Materiel (Dockyard and Refit) at Naval HQ.

Sustainable Wetland and Integrated Fisheries Transformation

♦ The Union Government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed loan agreements worth more than $800 million for major development projects in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, along with a $1 million technical assistance grant for a fisheries and wetlands project in Assam. The agreements were formalised under the guidance of the Department of Economic Affairs, with Saurabh Singh, ♦ Deputy Secretary, signing on behalf of the Government of India, and Mio Oka, Country Director of ADB’s India Resident Mission, signing for the Bank. ♦ The largest component of the financing is the $500 million loan for the Maharashtra Power Distribution Enhancement Programme aimed at agricultural solarization. ♦ For Madhya Pradesh, ADB has extended a Japanese Yen-denominated loan of ¥27.14 billion (about $190.6 million) for the Indore Metro Rail Project. ♦ In Gujarat, a $109.97 million loan was signed for the Skills Development Programme. ♦ The centre and ADB also signed a $1 million technical assistance grant to support the upcoming Sustainable Wetland and Integrated Fisheries Transformation (SWIFT) Project in Assam.

The Indian Navy received Taragiri

♦ The Indian Navy received Taragiri, the fourth vessel of the Nilgiri-class (Project 17A) advanced stealth frigates. The ship was handed over at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in Mumbai, marking a significant milestone in India’s efforts toward self-reliance in complex warship design and construction. ♦ Taragiri (Yard 12653) is the third Project 17A ship built by MDL and represents the modern reincarnation of the former INS Taragiri, a Leander-class frigate that served the Navy with distinction for 33 years between 1980 and 2013. ♦ The Navy noted that Taragiri is the fourth P17A vessel delivered within the last eleven months. The remaining three ships—one being constructed at MDL and two at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) in Kolkata—are scheduled for progressive delivery by August 2026.

ప్రస్తుత ఆర్థిక సంవత్సరం (2025-26)లో దేశ జీడీపీ వృద్ధి 7 శాతంగా నమోదు కావొచ్చని క్రిసిల్‌ అంచనా వేసింది. గతంలో 6.5 శాతం వృద్ధి అంచనా ప్రకటించగా, తాజాగా దాన్ని పెంచింది. తొలి అర్ధభాగం (ఏప్రిల్‌-సెప్టెంబరు)లో జీడీపీ వృద్ధి అంచనాలను మించి 8 శాతానికి చేరడంతో సవరించింది. వాస్తవిక జీడీపీ వృద్ధి రెండో త్రైమాసికంలో ఊహించిన దాని కంటే భిన్నంగా 8.2 శాతానికి పెరిగిందని క్రిసిల్‌ వెల్లడించింది.
