External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar

♦ External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with his Oman counterpart Badr Albusaidi on bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, and energy security on 16 February 2025. The two leaders jointly released a logo celebrating the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations. They also jointly released a book titled 'Mandvi to Muscat: Indian Community and the Shared History of India and Oman'. ♦ Jaishankar is in Muscat, Omani to attend the 8th Indian Ocean Conference, also met foreign ministers of several other nations, including Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Brunei on the sidelines of the event and discussed issues related to bilateral ties and regional cooperation.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has developed and released  the world’s largest 10-tonne propellant mixer for solid rocket motors. ♦ This was designed by ISRO’s Satish Dhawan Space Centre in collaboration with the Central Manufacturing Technology Institute in Bengaluru. ♦The mixer weighs 150 tonnes and stands 8.7 meters tall, with a length of 5.4 meters and a breadth of 3.3 meters. ♦ It ensures precise and safe mixing of solid propellant ingredients, essential for rocket launch.

Narendra Modi addressed the Bharat Tex 2025

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Bharat Tex 2025 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on 16 February 2025. He said India is currently ranked as the sixth largest exporter of textiles and apparel in the world, with textile exports valued at approximately Rs.3 lakh crore in 2024-25. India aims for a threefold increase in its textile exports to Rs.9 lakh crore by 2030, Modi said.  ♦ He projected that India’s textile recycling market could reach $400 million in the next few years, while the global recycled textile market is estimated to reach $7.5 billion. ♦ Bharat Tex 2025 being held from February 14-17 at Bharat Mandapam, is unique because it brings together the entire textile value chain from raw materials to finished products including accessories under one single roof.

Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the Aadi Mahotsav 2025

President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the Aadi Mahotsav 2025 at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi on 16 February 2025. This was organized by the Tribal Co-operative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited (TRIFED) under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. This festival concludes on 24 February.   ♦  Aadi Mahotsav is a major event to showcase and promote tribal heritage. Such festivals provide a great opportunity to entrepreneurs, craftsmen and artists of the tribal society to connect with the market. ♦  More than 600 tribal artisans, 500 performing artists, and 25 food stalls will participate, representing the diverse traditions of over 30 states and Union Territories. The festival aims to empower tribal communities by providing them with an extensive marketplace to promote their products and reach modern consumers.

Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI)

Charanjot Singh Nanda was appointed as 73rd President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for the term 2025-26. Nanda was previously served as the Vice-President of ICAI. ♦ D Prasanna Kumar, a Chartered Accountant from Andhra Pradesh was chosen as the Vice-President for the term 2025-26. ♦ Nanda became a Chartered Accountant in 1991. He has held various leadership roles within ICAI, including serving as the Chairman of the Northern India Regional Council (NIRC) for term 2002-03.

A 16-year-old national record

India’s Gulveer Singh shattered a 16-year-old national record in the men’s 3000m indoor race at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston on 15 February 2025. He finished second with a time of 7 minutes and 38.26 seconds. Gulveer’s new national record was just over 11 seconds better than the previous national record of 7:49.47, set by Surendra Singh in 2008. The effort was also better than India’s outdoor 3000m national record of 7:50.31, which Surendra Singh achieved in England in 2008.

The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI)

Jaspal Rana was appointed as the 'High-Performance Coach' for the 25m pistol. The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) announced this on 15 February 2025.  ♦ Rana is a four-time Asian Games gold medallist and Dronacharya Awardee. Rana previously coached Manu Bhaker between 2018 and 2021 and in 2023.  ♦ Besides Rana, others who have been appointed high-performance coaches include DS Chandel (air rifle), Anwer Sultan (trap) and Manoj Kumar (50m rifle). ♦ Rio 2016 Olympian and 2014 Asian Games Champion Jitu Rai has been named the national coach for the 10m air pistol. ♦ Former international shooters who have also been appointed new national team coaches are Pooja Ghatkar (10m air rifle), Pemba Tamang (25m pistol), Amarinder Cheema (skeet) and Varsha Tomar (trap). ♦ Vikram Chopra and Samaresh Jung continue as head coaches for shotgun and pistol, respectively.

Subsea cable project ‘Waterworth’

Social media giant Meta announced on 15 February 2025, it will build a 50,000 km subsea cable project ‘Waterworth’ to enhance digital connectivity between India and the US. ♦ The project will provide industry-leading connectivity to the US, India, Brazil, South Africa, and other key regions. The project is using AI to enhance subsea cable infrastructure to improve global connectivity.  ♦ According to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) data, the country hosts around 17 international subsea cables across 17 district landing stations. ♦ The project will span five major continents and cover over 50,000 kilometres – longer than the Earth’s circumference – making it the world’s longest subsea cable project, utilizing the highest-capacity technology available.

INSV Tarini past Cape Horn

Lieutenant Commander Dilna K and Lieutenant Commander Rupa A of the Indian Navy have achieved a historic milestone by sailing INSV Tarini past Cape Horn, the southernmost tip of South America, during the third phase of the ‘Sagar Parikrama II’ expedition.  ♦ Cape Horn is situated just over 800 kilometres (432 nautical miles) from Antarctica, making it one of the closest land points to the icy continent.  ♦ In 2024, Chief of the Naval Staff of India, Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, flagged off INSV Tarini for Navika Sagar Parikrama II expedition at Ocean Sailing Node, INS Mandovi, Goa.

వాణిజ్యం, పెట్టుబడి, ఇంధన భద్రత రంగాల్లో ద్వైపాక్షిక సహకారంపై ఒమన్‌ విదేశాంగమంత్రి బద్ర్‌ అల్‌బుసైదీతో భారత విదేశీ వ్యవహారాల శాఖ మంత్రి ఎస్‌.జైశంకర్‌ 2025, ఫిబ్రవరి 16న విస్తృతస్థాయిలో చర్చలు జరిపారు. హిందూ మహాసముద్ర తీరప్రాంత దేశాల 8వ సదస్సుకు హాజరుకావడానికి ఒమన్‌ రాజధానికి వచ్చిన జైశంకర్‌.. బంగ్లాదేశ్, నేపాల్, మాల్దీవులు సహా పలు దేశాల విదేశాంగమంత్రులతోనూ భేటీ అయ్యారు.  ఒమన్‌-భారత్‌ మధ్య దౌత్య సంబంధాలు ఏర్పడి 70 ఏళ్లైన సందర్భంగా ఇరువురు నేతలు ప్రత్యేక లోగోను విడుదల చేశారు.
