World Peace and Understanding Day

♦ World Peace and Understanding Day 2025 is observed annually on February 23 to promote peace, empathy and cooperation between people of various origins and cultures. ♦ This day also marks the anniversary of Rotary International’s foundation. ♦ On February 23, 1905, Illinois-based attorney Paul P. Harris convened a meeting with three friends — Gustavus Loehr, Silvestor Schiele, and Hiram Shorey — in a Chicago office. ♦ This gathering laid the foundation for what would become the first Rotary Club in 1910. ♦ Today, Rotary International has a global presence with over 1.4 million members across 46,000 clubs in 200+ countries and regions.

♦ Virat Kohli became the fastest player to score 14,000 runs in ODI format. ♦ He achieved this feat during the India vs Pakistan Champions Trophy 2025 match in Dubai on 23 February 2025. ♦ Kohli is the third batter and the second Indian after Sachin Tendulkar to reach the milestone. ♦ Kohli reached the 14,000-run mark in his 287th inning, overtaking Tendulkar’s record of 350 innings. Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka took 378 innings to get to the mark.  Batters with 14,000 runs or more in ODIs: 1. Sachin Tendulkar - 18,426 runs in 452 innings 2. Kumar Sangakkara - 14234 runs in 380 innings 3. Virat Kohli - 14085 runs in 287 innings

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL)

♦ Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has signined a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune for collaboration in bridging the gap between industry and academia. ♦ The MoU also aims at fostering cutting-edge research and driving technological advancements in the aerospace sector.  ♦ The MoU also paves the way for joint conferences, seminars and collaborative research projects aimed at strengthening India's defence and aviation capabilities.

Asia-Pacific Economy

♦ Moody's Analytics said, India's growth will slow to 6.4 percent in 2025, from 6.6 percent in 2024, as new US tariffs and softening global demand weigh on exports. ♦ In its report titled 'Asia-Pacific Outlook: Chaos Ahead', Moody's Analytics said growth across the Asia-Pacific economy will slow in 2025 as trade tensions, policy shifts, and uneven recoveries knock the region's fortunes. ♦ It projected Chinese GDP growth slowing to 4.2 percent in 2025 and 3.9 percent in 2026 from 5 percent in 2024.

State Bank of India (SBI)

♦ The State Bank of India (SBI) has estimated GDP growth during the current financial year (2024-25) to be 6.3 percent in its research report. ♦ The report said that leveraging 36 high-frequency indicators, the estimated GDP growth for the third quarter of the current financial year should be between 6.2 percent and 6.3 percent. ♦ According to the National Statistics Office (NSO), the real and nominal GDP growth rates for 2024-25 are projected at 6.4 pecent and 9.7 percent, respectively.

Pusa Krishi Vigyan Mela 2025

♦ Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated the 'Pusa Krishi Vigyan Mela 2025' in New Delhi on 23 February 2025. ♦ The theme of the three day fair is Unnat Krishi – Viksit Bharat. ♦ Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Chouhan said, farming is the backbone and lifeline of India’s economy. ♦ The key attractions of the Krishi Vigyan Mela this year (2025) are the live demonstrations of the cutting-edge varieties and technologies developed by Indian Agricultural Research Institute.

Shaktikanta Das

♦ Former governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Shaktikanta Das was appointed as the second Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 22 February 2025. ♦ He is a 1980-batch Tamil Nadu cadre IAS officer. ♦ He was the economic affairs secretary when the government scrapped high-value currency notes in November 2016. ♦ He has also previously served as the finance secretary and a member of the 15th Finance Commission before moving to the RBI. ♦ Shaktikanta became the RBI governor in 2018 after Urjit Patel abruptly resigned. He retired in 2024, December after serving as RBI governor for six years.

Majorana 1

♦ Microsoft unveiled a new quantum computing chip named Majorana 1, that can potentially fit a million qubits. ♦ Though this chip currently holds 8 topological qubits, it is a first of its kind to have a significant scalability runway. ♦ Key to its versatile architecture is the creation of a new material, made from indium arsenide and aluminium. ♦ Unlike traditional quantum chips, which rely on electron-based qubits, Majorana 1 has been built using a completely new kind of material and particle, the Majorana particle. ♦ Microsoft says the chip is so powerful that it can be scaled to a million qubits while being tiny enough that it can fit in the palm of your hand. ♦ Microsoft’s Majorana 1 has been in the works for nearly two decades and relies on a subatomic particle called the Majorana fermion whose existence was first theorized in the 1930s. ♦ That particle has properties that make it less prone to the errors that plague quantum computers, but it has been hard for physicists to find and control. ♦ The chip was fabricated at Microsoft labs in Washington state and Denmark.

వన్డే క్రికెట్లో అత్యంత వేగంగా 14,000 పరుగులు చేసిన బ్యాటర్‌గా భారత సూపర్‌స్టార్‌ విరాట్‌ కోహ్లి రికార్డు సృష్టించాడు. 2025, ఫిబ్రవరి 23న పాకిస్థాన్‌పై వ్యక్తిగత స్కోరు 15 వద్ద అతడు ఈ మైలురాయిని అందుకున్నాడు. సచిన్‌ (18,246), సంగక్కర (14,234) తర్వాత వన్డేల్లో 14 వేలు పూర్తి చేసిన మూడో బ్యాటర్‌గా కోహ్లి నిలిచాడు. సచిన్‌ 350 ఇన్నింగ్స్‌ల్లో, సంగక్కర 378 ఇన్నింగ్స్‌ల్లో ఈ మైలురాయికి చేరుకోగా, కోహ్లి అందుకు 287 ఇన్నింగ్స్‌లో ఈ ఘనత సాధించాడు.

శ్రీసత్యసాయి జిల్లా ధర్మవరం మండల నిమ్మలకుంట గ్రామానికి చెందిన తోలుబొమ్మల కళాకారిణి దళవాయి శివమ్మకు పరంపరాగత్‌ అవార్డు లభించింది. 2025, ఫిబ్రవరి 23న దిల్లీలో కేంద్ర విద్యుత్‌ మంత్రి మనోహర్‌లాల్‌ ఖట్టర్‌ చేతుల మీదుగా ఆమె ఈ పురస్కారం అందుకున్నారు. దిల్లీలో ఫిబ్రవరి 7 నుంచి 23 వరకు 38వ సూరజ్‌ కుండ్‌ ఇంటర్నేషనల్‌ క్రాఫ్ట్‌ మేళా నిర్వహించారు. దేశవ్యాప్తంగా 1300 మంది కళాకారులు పాల్గొనగా, ఆరుగురిని అవార్డుకు ఎంపిక చేశారు.  ప్రథమ స్థానంలో నిలిచిన శివమ్మకు అవార్డు, ప్రశంసాపత్రం, రూ.11 వేల నగదు బహుమతి అందజేశారు.
