ChinaSat-10R (Zhongxing-10R)

♦ China successfully launched the ChinaSat-10R (Zhongxing-10R) communications satellite into geosynchronous transfer orbit (GTO). ♦ The satellite was launched by a Long March-3B carrier rocket, and entered the preset orbit successfully. ♦ The launch marks the 560th flight mission of the Long March carrier rocket series. ♦ The purpose of this satellite is to replace the aging ChinaSat-10 satellite (launched in 2011).

India’s annual wind power capacity

♦ According to a Crisil report, India’s annual wind power capacity addition is projected to more than double to an average of 7.1 GigaWatts (GW) over the next two financial years, compared with 3.4 GW in fiscal year 2023-24. ♦ This growth, driven by government measures to accelerate the sector, is expected to increase the country’s total installed wind capacity to approximately 63 GW by 2026-27. ♦ Capacity additions in financial years 2023-24 and 2024-25 remained tepid, ranging between 6-7 GW, due to fewer successful auctions of wind capacities—5.9 GW in FY21-23 and 5.2 GW in FY23-25. ♦ The government’s push for hybrid renewable projects—combining solar, wind, and/or storage—along with a more favorable cost structure for wind projects, is expected to drive capacity growth, the report stated. ♦ Wind power is expected to account for 30–50% of these hybrid projects, as it generates electricity during peak demand periods, unlike solar power, which is mostly active during daytime hours.

India-Japan joint military exercise

♦ The 6th edition of the India-Japan joint military exercise, Dharma Guardian, commenced at the East Fuji Training Area in Japan. ♦ Scheduled to continue until March 9, the exercise underscores the deepening defence ties between the two nations. ♦ Aimed at bolstering interoperability between the Indian Army and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF), Dharma Guardian focuses on joint urban warfare and counter-terrorism operations under a UN mandate.  ♦ The Ministry of Defence emphasized that the exercise would include extensive physical conditioning, joint tactical drills, and coordinated planning to enhance operational synergy.

బుకర్‌ రేసులో భారతీయ ‘హార్ట్‌ ల్యాంప్‌’

అంతర్జాతీయ బుకర్‌ ప్రైజ్‌-2025 రేసులో కన్నడ రచయిత, సామాజిక కార్యకర్త, న్యాయవాది బాను ముస్తాక్‌ రాసిన చిన్న కథల సంకలనం ‘హార్ట్‌ ల్యాంప్‌’ నిలిచింది. ఆయన కన్నడలో దాన్ని రాయగా, ఆంగ్లంలోకి దీపా భస్తీ అనువదించారు. మొత్తం 13 పుస్తకాలతో తుది జాబితాను జడ్జీలు రూపొందించారు. దక్షిణ భారత దేశంలోని ముస్లిం సామాజిక వర్గానికి చెందిన వారి 12 కథల సంపుటమే ‘హార్ట్‌ ల్యాంప్‌’. ఇవి 1990-2023 మధ్య ప్రచురితమయ్యాయి. ఏప్రిల్‌ 8వ తేదీన ఈ 13 పుస్తకాల నుంచి ఆరింటిని తుది పోటీలకు ఎంపిక చేస్తారు. మే 20వ తేదీన విజేతను ప్రకటిస్తారు.
