Train Accidents

♦ The number of annual consequential train accidents dropping sharply from an average of 171 between 2004 and 2014 to 31 in 2024–25 and just 11 so far in 2025–26. The update was shared in the Rajya Sabha by Railways, Information & Broadcasting and Electronics & IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on 12 December 2025. ♦ The Ministry said all sabotage-related cases reported in 2023 and 2024 were registered by state police and GRP units, followed by arrests and prosecution.  ♦ Over the same period, investment in safety-related activities has nearly tripled — from Rs.39,463 crore in 2013–14 to Rs.1,16,470 crore this year (2025).

CoalSETU

♦ The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved a new policy mechanism called the CoalSETU window on 12 December 2025, creating a fresh pathway for long-term coal linkages across diverse industrial users and for exports. ♦ The CoalSETU window will be added to the existing Non-Regulated Sector (NRS) Linkage Auction Policy of 2016. Unlike the current system, where linkages are reserved for specified end-use sectors such as cement, sponge iron, aluminium, steel and captive power plants, the new mechanism allows any domestic industrial consumer to participate in auctions. ♦ Under CoalSETU, linkage holders may use coal for their own consumption, washing, or export, but resale within India will be prohibited. Export is allowed for up to 50 percent of the allocated quantity, and companies can distribute coal among their group entities as per operational needs. ♦ The CoalSETU window is the latest in a series of reforms aimed at opening up the coal sector, following earlier steps that allowed commercial mining without end-use restrictions. The new policy is positioned as an extension of that shift, reinforcing the Government’s focus on transparent allocation and optimal utilisation of domestic mineral resources.

India and Oman

♦ The Union Cabinet approved the proposed Free Trade Agreement between India and Oman on 12 December 2025, clearing the way for the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. The meeting was chaired by the Prime Minister. ♦ The approval comes ahead of the Prime Minister’s three-nation tour to Jordan, Ethiopia and Oman from December 15 to 18, a visit expected to strengthen India’s economic and strategic engagement across West Asia and Africa. The Prime Minister will travel to Oman on December 17 and 18 at the invitation of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. This will be his second visit to the country and coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. ♦ India and Oman share a long-standing strategic partnership built on trade links, energy cooperation and deep cultural ties. The Cabinet’s decision follows the Oman Shura Council’s approval of the proposed FTA a day earlier. Negotiations for the agreement began officially in November 2023. ♦ According to official figures, bilateral trade has remained strong. Trade between the two countries stood at 8.947 billion US dollars in 2023–24 and rose to 10.613 billion US dollars in 2024–25. Investment flows have been similarly robust, with more than 6,000 India–Oman joint ventures operating in Oman. These ventures account for an estimated 7.5 billion US dollars in capital over time, including formal outward investment and third-country investments channelled by Indian companies. Oman’s cumulative FDI equity inflows into India between April 2000 and March 2025 amounted to 605.57 million US dollars.

జీఎస్‌డీపీలో తెలంగాణ టాప్‌

గత ఆర్థిక సంవత్సరం (2024-25)లో తలసరి రాష్ట్ర స్థూల జాతీయోత్పత్తి(జీఎస్‌డీపీ)లో దేశంలో పెద్ద రాష్ట్రాలన్నింటిల్లో రూ.3.87 లక్షలతో తెలంగాణ టాప్‌ ర్యాంకులో నిలిచినట్లు రిజర్వు బ్యాంకు ఆఫ్‌ ఇండియా (ఆర్‌బీఐ) పేర్కొంది. తర్వాత వరుసగా కర్ణాటక రూ.3.80 లక్షలు, తమిళనాడు రూ.3.61లక్షలు, మహారాష్ట్ర రూ.3.09 లక్షలతో 2, 3, 4 ర్యాంకుల్లో నిలిచాయి. కేంద్రపాలిత ప్రాంతాలను కూడా కలిపి చూస్తే దిల్లీ రూ.4.93 లక్షల జీఎస్‌డీపీతో ముందుంది. ఏపీ తలసరి జీఎస్‌డీపీ రూ.2.66 లక్షలు. తలసరి జీఎస్‌డీపీనే వార్షిక తలసరి ఆదాయంగా కూడా వ్యవహరిస్తారు. పలు రంగాల్లో తెలంగాణలో స్థూల జాతీయోత్పత్తి గతేడాది అధికంగా ఉన్నందున దేశంలోనే పెద్ద రాష్ట్రాల్లో టాప్‌ ర్యాంకులో నిలిచిందని ఆర్‌బీఐ తాజాగా విడుదల చేసిన గణాంకాల నివేదిక-2024-25లో ప్రకటించింది.

అసమానతల సూచిక నివేదిక

భారతదేశంలో ఆర్థిక, సామాజిక అసమానతలు తీవ్రరూపం దాల్చుతున్నాయని, తక్కువ సగటు ఆదాయంతో ప్రపంచంలోనే అత్యధిక అసమానతలున్న దేశంగా భారత్‌ నిలిచిందని ప్రపంచ అసమానతల సూచిక నివేదిక వెల్లడించింది. గత పదేళ్లలో అసమానతలు అధిగమించడంలో ఎలాంటి ప్రగతి లేదని, కార్మిక బలగంలో మహిళల ప్రాధాన్యం పెరగలేదని పేర్కొంది. దేశంలో టాప్‌ 10% మంది చేతుల్లో దాదాపు 40.01% సంపద ఉందని తెలిపింది. జాతీయ ఆదాయంలో 58% వీరి వద్ద ఉందని, అట్టడుగు నుంచి 50% మంది వద్ద 15 శాతమే ఉందని వివరించింది. పరిపాలన, విధానాల వైఫల్యాలతో అసమానతలు పెరుగుతున్నాయి. 0.001% మంది మల్టీ మిలియనీర్లు ప్రపంచంలోని 50% మంది కన్నా మూడింతలు అధిక సంపద కలిగి ఉన్నారు. వారు 1995లో 4% ఉంటే.. ఇప్పుడు 6 శాతానికి పెరిగారు.

బీమా రంగంలో 100% ఎఫ్‌డీఐ

బీమా రంగంలోకి విదేశీ ప్రత్యక్ష పెట్టుబడుల (ఎఫ్‌డీఐ) పరిమితిని ప్రస్తుత 74% నుంచి 100 శాతానికి పెంచే బిల్లుకు 2025, డిసెంబరు 12న కేంద్ర మంత్రివర్గం ఆమోదం తెలిపింది. డిసెంబరు 19న ముగియనున్న పార్లమెంట్‌ శీతాకాల సమావేశాల్లోనే బీమా సవరణ బిల్లు-2025ను ప్రవేశపెట్టే అవకాశం ఉంది. ఇన్సూరెన్స్‌ చట్టం-1938లో సవరణలు చేసి, జీవిత, సాధారణ బీమా రెండింటినీ ఒకే సంస్థ అందించే విధంగా కాంపోజిట్‌ లైసెన్స్‌ విధానాన్ని తీసుకురావాలని కొత్త బిల్లు నిర్ణయించింది.

ఆర్‌బీఐ గణాంకాలు

దేశవ్యాప్తంగా పండ్ల ఉత్పత్తిలో మొదటిస్థానంలో, పండ్లతోటల సాగులో ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్‌ రెండోస్థానంలో నిలిచినట్లు రిజర్వ్‌బ్యాంక్‌ ఆఫ్‌ ఇండియా 2024-25 ఆర్థిక సంవత్సరం గణాంకాలు వెల్లడించాయి. ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్‌ రాష్ట్రం 1.93 కోట్ల టన్నుల పండ్లు ఉత్పత్తి చేస్తూ దేశంలోనే ప్రథమస్థానాన్ని దక్కించుకుంది. తర్వాత మహారాష్ట్ర 1.68 కోట్ల టన్నుల ఉత్పత్తితో రెండోస్థానంలో ఉంది. మధ్యప్రదేశ్‌ 1.02 కోట్ల టన్నుల ఉత్పత్తితో మూడోస్థానంలో ఉంది. 8.07లక్షల హెక్టార్లలో పండ్లతోటలు సాగు చేస్తూ దేశంలో రెండోస్థానంలో ఏపీ ఉండగా 8.96 లక్షల హెక్టార్లలో సాగు చేస్తూ మహారాష్ట్ర మొదటిస్థానంలో ఉంది.

తగ్గిన రైలు ప్రమాదాలు

దేశంలో రైలు ప్రమాదాలు 2004-14 నుంచి 2024-25 మధ్యకాలంలో ఏటా 171 నుంచి 64కు తగ్గిపోయాయని రైల్వేమంత్రి అశ్వినీ వైష్ణవ్‌ తెలిపారు. ఆయన 2025, డిసెంబరు 12న రాజ్యసభలో ఈ విషయాన్ని వెల్లడించారు.  2004-14 మధ్య పదేళ్ల కాలంలో మొత్తం 1,711 ప్రమాదాలు జరగ్గా, 2014-25 మధ్యకాలంలో 709 జరిగాయని చెప్పారు. 2025-26లో ఈ నవంబరు వరకు 11 ప్రమాదాలు చోటుచేసుకున్నాయని తెలిపారు.

కేంద్ర మంత్రి మండలి నిర్ణయాలు

కేంద్ర మంత్రి మండలి 2025, డిసెంబరు 12న ‘వికసిత భారత్‌ శిక్షా అధీక్షణ్‌ బిల్లు’కు ఆమోదం తెలిపింది. నూతన జాతీయ విద్యా విధానం (ఎన్‌ఈసీ)లో భాగంగా ఉన్నత విద్యను ఒకే సంస్థ నియంత్రణలోకి తీసుకొచ్చే చర్యల్లో భాగంగా దీన్ని రూపొందించారు. ప్రతిపాదిత బిల్లును తొలుత ‘భారత ఉన్నత విద్యా కమిషన్‌’(హెచ్‌ఈసీఐ)గా పేర్కొన్నారు. అయితే, తాజాగా దాని పేరును మార్చారు. ప్రస్తుతం విడివిడిగా ఉన్న యూజీసీ, ఏఐసీటీఈ, జాతీయ ఉపాధ్యాయ విద్యా మండలి (ఎన్‌సీటీఈ) నూతన సంస్థ నియంత్రణలోకి వస్తాయి. న్యాయ, వైద్య కళాశాలలను దీని పరిధి నుంచి మినహాయించారు. ప్రధాని అధ్యక్షతన దిల్లీలో సమావేశమైన కేంద్ర కేబినెట్‌ మరికొన్ని నిర్ణయాలు తీసుకుంది. దేశవ్యాప్తంగా చేపట్టనున్న జన గణనకు రూ.11,718.24 కోట్లు మంజూరు చేసింది. 2026 ఏప్రిల్‌ నుంచి సెప్టెంబరు వరకు ఇళ్ల జాబితా రూపకల్పన జరుగుతుంది. 2027 ఫిబ్రవరి నుంచి దేశవ్యాప్తంగా జనగణనతో పాటు కులగణనూ నిర్వహిస్తారు. 30 లక్షల మంది గణకులను నియమిస్తారు. డిజిటల్‌ పద్ధతిలో జనాభా లెక్కల సేకరణ జరుగుతుంది.
