Good Governance Day (Sushashan Diwas)

Good Governance Day (Sushashan Diwas) is observed in India every year on December 25 to foster awareness about accountability in government. The day commemorates the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee. On December 23, 2014, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya were awarded the highest civilian honour in the country, the Bharat Ratna. Following the declaration, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared December 25 as Good Governance Day, as the day coincides with Vajpayee's birth date.

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana

♦ Gujarat has achieved a historic milestone in renewable energy by installing over 5 lakh rooftop solar systems with a total capacity of 1,879 megawatts under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. The state has already achieved 50 per cent of its target to install 1 million residential rooftop solar systems by March 2027. ♦ In total, Gujarat has installed more than 1.1 million rooftop solar systems over the years across different programmes, keeping it ahead of other states in residential solar adoption. Residential consumers in the state have received Rs.3,778 crore in subsidies under the scheme, aimed at reducing upfront costs and accelerating installations.

Saleem Ahmad

♦ Saleem Ahmad assumed charge as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL). He succeeded Sukhmal Chand Jain. Before this posting, Saleem Ahmad was working as director (projects) at NBCC (India). ♦ Before joining NBCC, he served as Executive Director (Civil) at Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd and also worked with Mumbai Port Trust. ♦ Rail Vikas Nigam Limited is a central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Railways. It is responsible for implementing critical railway projects such as new lines, doubling of tracks, electrification, and capacity enhancement works to improve rail connectivity across India.

Droupadi Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu released the Constitution of India in the Santhali language at a function held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on 25 December 2025. The Santhali language was included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution through the 92nd Amendment Act, 2003, is one of the most ancient living languages of India. It is spoken by a significant number of tribal people in Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and Bihar.

PV Sindhu, was elected Chair of the BWF Athletes’

♦ Two-time Olympic medallist and former world champion PV Sindhu, was elected Chair of the BWF Athletes’ Commission for the 2026-2029 term. She will also serve as a member of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Council.  ♦ PV Sindhu won silver at the Rio 2016 Olympics and bronze at Tokyo 2020, is India's most successful badminton player to date. She is set to lead India at the 2026 Badminton Asia Team Championships in Qingdao, China.

Kimberley Process (KP)

♦ India will assume the prestigious chairpersonship of the Kimberley Process (KP) from January 1, 2026, after being selected by the KP Plenary, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said on 25 December 2025. India will take over as Vice Chair of the Kimberley Process from December 25, 2025, and will formally assume the chair in the new year. This will be the third time that India has been entrusted with leading the global initiative. ♦ The Kimberley Process is a tripartite mechanism involving governments, the international diamond industry and civil society, aimed at preventing the trade in “conflict diamonds” — rough diamonds used by rebel groups to finance armed conflicts, as defined by United Nations Security Council resolutions. ♦ The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS), established pursuant to a UN resolution and operational since January 1, 2003, has evolved into a key international framework to curb the trade in conflict diamonds. The KP currently has 60 participants, with the European Union and its member states counted as a single participant, collectively accounting for more than 99 percent of global rough diamond trade.

'Rashtra Prerna Sthal'

♦ Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 'Rashtra Prerna Sthal' in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh on 25 December 2025, dedicated to the life and ideals of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, marking his 101st birth anniversary. ♦ The Prime Minister paid floral tributes to the three towering figures of nationalism, namely Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, whose statues have been erected at the 65-acre sprawling memorial situated in Lucknow’s Vasant Kunj area. These statues represent the life, ideals and legacy of the three national icons. ♦ The Rashtra Prerna Sthal features towering 65-foot bronze statues of the three leaders, a state-of-the-art lotus-shaped museum showcasing India’s national journey and leadership legacy. ♦ The Prime Minister also visited the Rashtra Prerna Sthal museum, situated adjacent to the memorial, which houses and showcases the seminal contributions of these leaders in India’s political thought, public life and nation-building. The state-of-the-art museum, designed in the form of a lotus-shaped structure, spreads over an area of around 98,000 square feet.

సుపరిపాలన దినోత్సవం

దేశంలో లేదా రాష్ట్రంలో శాంతిభద్రతలు అదుపులో ఉండాలన్నా, ప్రజలు సుఖ-శాంతులతో జీవించాలన్నా సమర్థవంతమైన పాలన అవసరం. దీని ద్వారానే పౌరులు మెరుగైన సేవలు పొందగలుగుతారు. ప్రజా వ్యవహారాల నిర్వహణలో నిర్ణయాలు తీసుకోవడం, అమలు చేయడం, పర్యవేక్షించడం లాంటివి పాలన సూచిస్తుంది. స్థిరమైన అభివృద్ధి, సామాజిక న్యాయం, పౌరుల సాధికారతకు ఇది అవసరం. ప్రభుత్వ జవాబుదారీతనం, సమర్థవంతమైన పరిపాలన గురించి ప్రజలకు తెలియజేసే లక్ష్యంతో ఏటా డిసెంబరు 25న మన దేశంలో సుపరిపాలన దినోత్సవాన్ని (Good Governance Day) నిర్వహిస్తారు. మాజీ ప్రధాని అటల్‌ బిహారీ వాజ్‌పేయీ జయంతి సందర్భంగా దీన్ని జరుపుకుంటారు. ప్రభుత్వ బాధ్యతలు, విధుల, అభివృద్ధి ఆధారిత పాలన గురించి పౌరులను చైతన్యపరచడం ఈ రోజు ముఖ్య ఉద్దేశం. చారిత్రక నేపథ్యం అటల్‌ బిహారీ వాజ్‌పేయీ ప్రధానిగా ఉన్న కాలంలో సమ్మిళిత వృద్ధి, ప్రభావవంతమైన పరిపాలనపై ఎక్కువగా దృష్టిసారించారు. నరేంద్ర మోదీ ప్రభుత్వం 2014, డిసెంబరు 23న ఆయనకు భారతదేశ అత్యున్నత పౌర పురస్కారమైన భారతరత్న ప్రకటించింది. అలాగే ఆయన జన్మదినమైన డిసెంబరు 25న ఏటా ‘సుపరిపాలన దినోత్సవం’గా నిర్వహిస్తామని ప్రకటించింది. 2014 నుంచి ప్రతి సంవత్సరం దీన్ని జరుపుతున్నారు.
