Government baggage rules

♦ The Government has notified the Baggage Rules, 2026 and issued the New Customs Baggage (Declaration and Processing) Regulations, 2026 and a Master Circular for people travelling to and from India, which will make airport procedures easier and faster. ♦ The Ministry of Finance said the new rules aim to reduce paperwork, increase transparency, and speed up clearance at airports. ♦ Passengers will now be able to declare their baggage electronically and even in advance, saving time at customs counters. ♦ These changes will allow enhanced general free allowance, transfer of residence benefits and special allowances for jewellery. The government has also allowed one laptop to be brought duty-free by passengers above 18 years of age. ♦ New provisions have been added for temporary imports and re-imports, meaning items taken abroad and brought back will face fewer complications. ♦ Pets can also be brought in duty-free, following the prescribed rules. ♦ The Ministry said these measures reflect facilitative and revised provisions for international passengers, and in accordance with new economic conditions, rising travel volumes and passenger expectations.

Outer Harbour Development Project

♦ The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways signed two MoUs for the formation of the Bharat Container Shipping Line and for financing the development of the Outer Harbour Development Project, in New Delhi on 3 February 2026. ♦ The MoUs are aimed at strengthening India’s maritime infrastructure and reducing reliance on foreign shipping operators.

India and Kyrgyzstan's 13th edition of military exercises.

♦ The 13th edition of the joint military Exercise KHANJAR between India and Kyrgyzstan began at Misamari in Sonitpur district of Assam on 3 February 2026. ♦ This aims to enhance interoperability between the Special Forces of both nations, with a focus on joint operations in urban warfare and counter-terrorism scenarios under the United Nations mandate. ♦ This KHANJAR exercise will further strengthen bilateral defence cooperation and deepen the enduring military partnership between India and Kyrgyzstan. ♦ The 14-day-long military exercise concludes on 17 February.  ♦ India and Kyrgyzstan organising joint military exercises annually since 2011, with venues alternating between the countries to reflect deepening defence ties.  ♦ The 12th edition was conducted in March 2025 in Kyrgyzstan, and included intensive exercises in sniping, complex building intervention, mountain craft and specialised counter‑terrorism drills, alongside high‑altitude operations and cultural exchanges that reinforced camaraderie between the contingents.

Fourth meeting of the JDCC

♦ India and Tanzania held the fourth meeting of the Joint Defence Cooperation Committee (JDCC) in Zanzibar on 3 February 2026. ♦ During the meeting, both sides discussed a wide range of areas for collaboration, including military training, service-to-service engagement, maritime security and defence industry cooperation. ♦ The discussions reflected the shared interest of the two countries in enhancing defence preparedness and regional security. ♦ The two delegations also explored emerging areas of cooperation such as counter-terrorism, peacekeeping training and capacity building in niche domains including Electronic Warfare (EW), Cyber and Artificial Intelligence (AI). ♦ Cooperation in military medicine was identified as a potential new area, while both sides agreed to initiate engagement between their Air Forces, complementing the existing cooperation between the Indian and Tanzanian Navies and Armies. ♦ The Indian delegation was led by Joint Secretary (Defence Cooperation) Amitabh Prasad and included senior officials from the Department of Defence and the Indian Armed Forces. ♦ The Tanzanian delegation was headed by Ibrahim Mhona, Chief of Operations and Training of the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF). India’s High Commissioner to Tanzania, Bishwadip Dey, also attended the meeting.

The SFDR technology test was successful.

♦ The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully demonstrated the Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet (SFDR) technology from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha on 3 February 2026. ♦ This marks a significant milestone in India’s missile development programme and places the country among a select group of nations possessing this advanced propulsion technology.  ♦ SFDR technology is critical for the development of long-range air-to-air missiles, providing enhanced range, speed and manoeuvrability, and offering a substantial tactical advantage to the Indian armed forces. ♦ According to DRDO, all major subsystems of the SFDR system performed as expected during the flight. ♦ These included the nozzle-less booster, the solid fuel ducted ramjet motor and the fuel flow controller.  ♦ The performance of the system was confirmed through flight data captured by multiple tracking instruments deployed along the Bay of Bengal coast by the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur.Senior scientists from various DRDO laboratories, including the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), Research Centre Imarat (RCI) and ITR, monitored the launch and test.

సిచ్యుయేషన్‌ అసెస్‌మెంట్‌ సర్వే ప్రకారం 2018-19 వ్యవసాయ సీజన్‌లో తెలంగాణలోని 91.7% వ్యవసాయ కుటుంబాలు అప్పుల ఊబిలో ఉన్నట్లు కేంద్ర వ్యవసాయశాఖ సహాయమంత్రి రామ్‌నాథ్‌ఠాకూర్‌ 2026, ఫిబ్రవరి 3న లోక్‌సభలో తెలిపారు. ఒక్కో కుటుంబంపై తలసరి రూ.1,52,113 అప్పు ఉన్నట్లు చెప్పారు. రాష్ట్రంలోని ప్రతి వ్యవసాయ కుటుంబ నెల వారీ ఆదాయం రూ.9,403గా ఉన్నట్లు చెప్పారు. ఇది జాతీయ సగటు ఆదాయం రూ.10,218 కంటే తక్కువ అని వెల్లడించారు.
