Children's Day

♦ Children's Day is celebrated every year in India on November 14, to mark the birth anniversary of the country's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. The day, also known as 'Bal Diwas,' highlights the importance of nurturing and empowering young minds, while also paying tribute to Nehru's efforts toward child welfare and education. ♦ After the death of Nehru, it was unanimously decided to celebrate his birthday as 'Bal Diwas' or Children's Day in India. Nehru was born on November 14, 1889, in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj. He breathed his last on May 27, 1964. He became the prime minister on August 15, 1947, following an active role in the freedom struggle of the country.

ESCAPADE

♦ Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin launched two NASA satellites atop its giant New Glenn rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida. It successfully sending the US space agency's ESCAPADE (Escape and Plasma Acceleration and Dynamics Explorer) mission on its journey to Mars by inserting the twin spacecraft into the designated loiter orbit.  ♦ The ESCAPADE twin spacecraft, built by Rocket Lab, will study how the magnetic environment of Mars is impacted by the Sun. It will investigate how a never-ending, million-mile-per-hour stream of particles from the Sun, known as the solar wind, has gradually stripped away much of the Martian atmosphere, causing the planet to cool and its surface water to evaporate. Led by the University of California, Berkeley, the mission will help NASA prepare for future human exploration of Mars. ♦ After a 10-month journey, ESCAPADE will arrive at Mars by September 2027, becoming the first coordinated dual-spacecraft mission to enter orbit around another planet. It will begin the science campaign in June 2028. ♦ Currently, Earth and Mars are positioned on opposite sides of the Sun, making interplanetary travel between them more challenging. Rather than heading directly to Mars, the twin spacecraft will first head to a location in space a million miles from Earth called Lagrange point 2, NASA explained. In November 2026, when the two planets align more closely in their orbits, NASA’s ESCAPADE spacecraft will swing back toward Earth and use its gravity to perform a slingshot manoeuvr, propelling itself toward Mars.

Saalumarada Thimmakka

♦ Renowned environmentalist and Padma Shri awardee Saalumarada Thimmakka passed away at the age of 114 on 14 November 2025 in Bengaluru.  Born on June 30, 1911, in Gubbi taluk of Tumakuru district, Thimmakka rose to national prominence for her decades-long commitment to greening rural Karnataka.  ♦ She gained national and international recognition for planting 385 banyan trees along a 4.5-km stretch between Hulikal and Kudur in the Ramanagara district. ♦ Over her lifetime, she received numerous honours, including the Padma Shri in 2019, the Indira Priyadarshini Vrikshamitra Award (1997), the National Citizen Award (1995), and the Nadoja Award by Hampi University in 2010.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA)

♦ The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has won the Bihar elections, announced on 14 November 2025.  NDA’s total vote share stood at 46.7%, while the INDIA bloc was 37.5%. ♦ As per the Election Commision of India, the NDA won with a three-fourth majority, securing 202 seats of the 243-member Assembly (BJP 89, JD(U) 85, LJP (RV) 19, HAM (S) 5 and RLM 4).  ♦ The Mahagathbandhan, win only 35 (RJD 25, INC 6, CPI(ML)(L) 2, CPI(M) 1, IIP 1) and the Owaisi-led AIMIM won five seats.

India International Trade Fair

♦ Minister of State for Power Shripad Y. Naik inaugurated the Ministry of Power Pavilion at the 44th India International Trade Fair (IITF) on 14 November 2025 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Naik said the pavilion highlights India’s transition from conventional power sources to clean and sustainable energy.  ♦ The pavilion aims to provide visitors with a comprehensive look at India’s evolving energy landscape and the role of power sector PSUs in advancing clean energy and infrastructure development.

బాలల దినోత్సవం

నేటి బాలలే రేపటి భవిష్యత్తు నిర్మాతలు. బాల్యం ఎంత మధురంగా, ఆనందమయంగా సాగుతుందో అంతే గొప్పగా వారి జీవితం కొనసాగుతుంది. చిన్నతనం నుంచి వారు అలవరుచుకునే మంచి అలవాట్లు, ఇతరుల పట్ల గౌరవం, ప్రేమ, ఆదరణ లాంటి లక్షణాలు విలువలతో కూడిన సమాజ నిర్మాణానికి నాందిగా నిలుస్తాయి. భారత తొలి ప్రధాని పండిట్‌ జవహర్‌లాల్‌ నెహ్రూకు పిల్లలంటే అమితమైన ఇష్టం. దేశ ప్రగతికి వారి విద్య, శ్రేయస్సు మూల స్తంభాలుగా నిలుస్తాయని ఆయన విశ్వసించారు. చిన్నారులు ఈయన్ను ‘చాచా నెహ్రూ’ అని పిలిచేవారు. జవహర్‌లాల్‌ నెహ్రూ జయంతిని పురస్కరించుకుని ఏటా నవంబరు 14న మన దేశంలో ‘బాలల దినోత్సవం’గా (Children’s Day) నిర్వహిస్తారు. బాల్యం గొప్పతనాన్ని, పిల్లల హక్కులను చాటిచెప్పడం ఈ రోజు ముఖ్య ఉద్దేశం. చారిత్రక నేపథ్యం జవహర్‌లాల్‌ నెహ్రూ 1889, నవంబరు 14న జన్మించారు. ఆయన ఎప్పుడూ పిల్లల విద్య, హక్కుల గురించి ఆలోచించేవారు. ఈయన పుట్టినరోజు నాడు ఏటా బాలల దినోత్సవంగా జరుపుకోవాలని 1957లో భారత ప్రభుత్వం తీర్మానించింది.

అంగారకుడి శోధనకు ‘ఎస్కపేడ్‌’

అంగారక గ్రహం గురించి లోతుగా శోధించేందుకు అమెరికా అంతరిక్ష సంస్థ-నాసా ప్రతిష్ఠాత్మకంగా చేపట్టిన ‘ఎస్కపేడ్‌’ ప్రయోగం విజయవంతమైంది. అమెజాన్‌ అధిపతి జెఫ్‌ బెజోస్‌కు చెందిన ‘బ్లూ ఆర్జిన్‌’కు చెందిన భారీ న్యూగ్లెన్‌ రాకెట్‌.. ఈ వ్యోమనౌకను నింగిలో ప్రవేశపెట్టింది. ఫ్లోరిడాలోని కేప్‌ కెనావెరాల్‌ అంతరిక్ష కేంద్రం ఈ ప్రయోగానికి వేదికైంది.  ‘ఎస్కపేడ్‌’ మిషన్‌లో బ్లూ, గోల్డ్‌ అనే రెండు ఉపగ్రహాలు ఉన్నాయి. ఇవి అంగారకుడి వాతావరణాన్ని పరిశీలించనున్నాయి. అరుణగ్రహం తన వాతావరణాన్ని కోల్పోయిన తీరును ఇవి శోధించనున్నాయి. అంగారకుడి నివాసయోగ్యతకు సంబంధించి అర్థం చేసుకోవడానికి ఈ ప్రయోగం ఉపయోగపడనుంది. ఆ గ్రహ అయస్కాంత క్షేత్రం, ప్లాస్మా వాతావరణాన్ని శోధించనున్నాయి.

వృక్షమాత తిమ్మక్క మరణం

వృక్షమాతగా గుర్తింపు పొందిన ‘సాలుమరద’ తిమ్మక్క (114) 2025, నవంబరు 14న బెంగళూరులో మరణించారు. తిమ్మక్క.. దశలవారీగా కుదూరు నుంచి హులికల్‌ వరకు 4.5 కి.మీ. పొడవునా 385 మర్రి మొక్కలను నాటారు. అవి భారీ వృక్షాలుగా ఎదిగాయి. దీంతో పాటు తమ గ్రామంలో వృక్ష ఉద్యానవనాన్ని ఏర్పాటు చేశారు. ఇలా ఆమె రాష్ట్రంలో 8 వేలకు పైగా మొక్కలు మహావృక్షాలుగా ఎదిగేందుకు శ్రమించారు.  వరుసగా (సాలు) చెట్లు (మర) పెంచుతూ వచ్చిన ఆమె.. సాలుమరద తిమ్మక్కగా గుర్తింపు పొందారు. కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం నుంచి పద్మశ్రీ  అందుకున్నారు.

బాలసాహిత్య పురస్కారం

‘కబుర్ల దేవత’ పుస్తక రచయిత డాక్టర్‌ గంగిశెట్టి శివకుమార్‌కు కేంద్ర సాహిత్య అకాడమీ అధ్యక్షుడు మాధవ్‌కౌశిక్‌ బాలసాహిత్య పురస్కారాన్ని ప్రదానం చేశారు. 2025 నవంబరు 14న దిల్లీలో జరిగిన కార్యక్రమంలో 2025 సంవత్సరానికి బాలసాహిత్య పురస్కారానికి ఎంపికైన వివిధ భారతీయ భాషలకు చెందిన 24 మంది రచయితలకు అవార్డుతో పాటు రూ.50 వేల నగదు బహుమతి, తామ్రపత్రం అందించి సత్కరించారు. డాక్టర్‌ గంగిశెట్టి శివకుమార్‌ శ్రీపొట్టిశ్రీరాములు నెల్లూరు జిల్లా రాపూరుకు చెందినవారు.
