The National Press Day

♦ The National Press Day is observed every year on 16th November to celebrate the role of a free and responsible press. The day commemorates the establishment of the Press Council of India, which began its operations on this day in 1966. Since its inception, the Council has functioned as an independent moral watchdog, working to uphold high standards of journalism and protect the press from external influence and threats. ♦ The establishment of the PCI came from the recommendations of the First Press Commission of 1956, as per the Press Information Bureau of India (PIB). The PCI was then established a decade later, on November 16, 1966, to ensure that the Press is committed to truth in the interest of the public and is held accountable.

The 3rd International Ayurveda Conference

♦ The 3rd International Ayurveda Conference, jointly organised by the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC) and Conayur in São Paulo, concluded on 16 November 2025. The two days of discussions focused on strengthening India-Brazil cooperation in traditional medicine. The event, held under the aegis of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), also marked four decades of Ayurveda’s presence in Brazil. ♦ The conference, themed “Diversity and Inclusion in Ayurveda: Caring for Everybody and Every Being,” brought together experts, practitioners, academics and students from across Latin America and India.

Goa police has become the first state police force in India

♦ Goa police has become the first state police force in India to achieve a 100% response rate in cyber fraud calls. Its cyber fraud call centre received over 5,000 calls, and 581 complaints were registered. They also successfully responded to around 1,500 missed calls, thereby ensuring 100% accessibility. ♦ The 1930 cloud-based call centre was launched last month (October) and inaugurated by Union home minister Amit Shah. The new system provides the complainants’ details such as mobile number, name, date and time of the call, which makes it easier for the police to contact the complainant. ♦ As of now, cyber fraudsters have cheated Goans to the tune of Rs 100 crore. Police sources said that this is just the official figure, but actual amount could be much more. Last year, fraudsters cheated Goans to the tune of Rs 101 crore.

The Indian Air Force

♦ The Indian Air Force (IAF) participated in the 8th edition of the bilateral air exercise 'Garuda 25' with the French Air and Space Force (FASF) at Mont-de-Marsan, France, on 16 November 2025. The exercise will continue until 24 November. ♦ Garuda 25 provides an opportunity for professional interaction, exchange of operational knowledge, and sharing of best practices between the two Air Forces. Participation in this exercise underscores the lAF's commitment to engage constructively with friendly foreign Air Forces through multi-lateral exercises, promoting mutual understanding and cooperation in the field of air operations.

V Srinivas

♦ The Rajasthan government has appointed V Srinivas, a 1989-batch IAS officer, as the new Chief Secretary. He has returned from a seven-year central deputation.  He was serving as the Secretary , Pensions and Pensioners' Welfare, in the Union government. ♦ He will continue as Chief Secretary until September 2026, when he is scheduled to retire.

Dr Jitendra Singh

♦ Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh said that India has emerged as the world’s 6th largest patent filer with over 64,000 patents, out of which more than 55% are by resident Indian innovators. Addressing the Annual Tech Fest in New Delhi on 15 November 2025, Singh highlighted that the country has climbed up from 81st rank to 38th in the Global Innovation Index.  ♦ Jitendra Singh underlined that events like INNOTECH’25 reflect the larger national ecosystem that now prioritizes private participation, deep-tech entrepreneurship, and cross-sector innovation.

Defence Research and Development Organisation

♦ A new generation of man-portable autonomous underwater vehicles (MP-AUVs) was successfully developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation. The system comprises multiple autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) equipped with side scan sonar and underwater cameras as primary payloads for real-time detection of mine-like objects.  ♦ The onboard deep learning based target recognition algorithms enable autonomous classification, significantly reducing operator workload and mission time. ♦ The MP-AUVs have been developed by the DRDO's Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) in Visakhapatnam.

Ravindra Jadeja

♦ Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja became the second Indian and overall fourth cricketer in the world to score 4000 runs and take at least 300 wickets in Test cricket. He achieved this milestone during the second day of the first Test against South Africa in Kolkata on 15 November 2025.  ♦ In 88 tests, Jadeja has scored 4,001 runs at an average of 38.84, with six centuries and 27 fifties, and a best score of 175*.  ♦ His bowling record shows 342 wickets at an average of 25.25, including 15 five-wicket hauls. The list of players with 4000 Test runs and 300 Test Wickets are: 1. Kapil Dev (India): 5248 runs, 434 wickets 2. Ian Botham (England): 5200 runs, 383 wickets 3. Daniel Vettori (New Zealand): 4531 runs, 362 wickets 4. Ravindra Jadeja: 4001 runs, 342 wickets

ఎన్‌2గ్రోత్‌ జాబితా

ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా ఉత్తమ మానవ వనరుల విభాగ సారథుల జాబితాలో రిలయన్స్‌ ఇండస్ట్రీస్‌కు చెందిన ఇరా బింద్రా చోటు దక్కించుకున్నారు. 2025 సంవత్సరానికి గాను 40 మంది ఉత్తమ మానవ వనరుల విభాగ ముఖ్య అధికారుల (సీహెచ్‌ఆర్‌ఓ) పేర్లతో ఓ జాబితాను ఎన్‌2గ్రోత్‌ విడుదల చేసింది. రిలయన్స్‌ ఇండస్ట్రీస్‌లో సీహెచ్‌ఆర్‌ఓగా బాధ్యతలు నిర్వహిస్తున్న ఇరా బింద్రాకు ఇందులో 28వ ర్యాంకు లభించింది. ఈ జాబితాలో ఉన్న ఏకైక భారతీయ సంస్థ రిలయన్స్‌ కాగా.. ఇందులో భారత్‌ నుంచి చోటు సంపాదించిన మొట్టమొదటి మహిళ బింద్రానే.

‘జెనెటిక్‌ స్విచ్‌’

గర్భం దాల్చాలంటే తొలుత పిండం గర్భాశయ గోడకు అతుక్కోవాలి. ఈ ప్రక్రియలో జెనెటిక్‌ స్విచ్‌ కీలక పాత్ర పోషిస్తుందని గర్భధారణపై భారతీయ వైద్య పరిశోధన మండలి (ఐసీఎంఆర్‌) నిర్వహించిన పరిశోధనలో ఈ విషయం నిర్ధారణైంది. ఈ పరిశోధనలో బనారస్‌ హిందూ యూనివర్సిటీ, నేషనల్‌ ఇన్‌స్టిట్యూట్‌ ఫర్‌ రీసెర్చ్‌ ఇన్‌ రిప్రొడక్టివ్‌ అండ్‌ చైల్డ్‌ హెల్త్‌ (ఐసీఎంఆర్‌-ఎన్‌ఐఆర్‌ఆర్‌సీహెచ్‌), ఇండియన్‌ ఇన్‌స్టిట్యూట్‌ ఆఫ్‌ సైన్స్‌ (ఐఐఎస్‌సీ) కలిసి పనిచేశాయి.  ఈ పరిశీలనలో హెచ్‌ఓఎక్స్‌ఏ 10, టీడబ్లూఐఎస్‌టీ2 అనే రెండు జన్యువులను కనుక్కున్నారు. ఇవి గర్భాశయ గోడ దగ్గర తలుపులా పనిచేస్తాయి. పిండం వచ్చేటప్పుడు హెచ్‌ఓఎక్స్‌ఏ 10 తాత్కాలికంగా ఆఫ్‌ అవుతుంది. టీడబ్లూఐఎస్‌టీ2 చర్య ప్రారంభిస్తుంది. గర్భాశయ గోడ తలుపు తెరచుకుంటుంది. ఈ జన్యువులే గర్భధారణలో కీలక పాత్ర పోషిస్తున్నాయి.
