World Air Quality Report 2024

♦ Swiss air quality technology company IQAir released the World Air Quality Report 2024 on 11 March 2025. ♦ Accordong to this thirteen of the world's top 20 most polluted cities are in India, with Byrnihat in Assam topping the list. ♦ It said Delhi remains the most polluted capital city globally, while India ranked as the world's fifth most polluted country in 2024, down from third in 2023. Highlights: ♦ India saw a 7 percent decline in PM2.5 concentrations in 2024, averaging 50.6 micrograms per cubic metre, compared to 54.4 micrograms per cubic metre in 2023. Yet, six of the world's 10 most polluted cities are in India. ♦ The 13 Indian cities in the world's top 20 most polluted cities are Byrnihat, Delhi, Mullanpur (Punjab), Faridabad, Loni, New Delhi, Gurugram, Ganganagar, Greater Noida, Bhiwadi, Muzaffarnagar, Hanumangarh and Noida. ♦ Overall, 35 per cent of the Indian cities reported annual PM2.5 levels exceeding 10 times the WHO limit of 5 micrograms per cubic metre.

♦ The New and Renewable Energy Ministry Pralhad Joshi said Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar, Muft Bijli Yojana has achieved a significant milestone by completing 10.09 lakh installations across the country as of the 11th of March 2025. ♦ He also said that Chandigarh Daman and Diu have achieved 100 percent of their government building rooftop solar targets, leading the nation in clean energy adoption. ♦ It highlighted that states like Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu are also performing exceptionally well, contributing significantly to the overall installation figures. ♦ Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar, Muft Bijli Yojana was launched on 13 February 2024. ♦ The scheme provides free electricity via rooftop solar to 1 crore homes, reducing reliance on conventional power and empowering citizens as energy producers. ♦ It also enables every household to contribute to climate change mitigation by reducing carbon emissions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi

♦ Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam announced on 11 March 2025 that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be conferred with The Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean, the highest national honour of Mauritius. ♦ This recognition marks a significant diplomatic milestone, as PM Modi becomes the first Indian to receive this prestigious award. It is also the 21st international award conferred upon the Indian leader by a foreign country. ♦ In a special gesture, PM Modi presented Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cards to Mauritius President Dharambeer Gokhool and First Lady Brinda Gokhool. ♦ Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Mauritius on 11 March 2025.

మహిళా వ్యాపారవేత్తలను ప్రోత్సహించేందుకు, దేశ ఎగుమతులను బలోపేతం చేసే లక్ష్యంతో ‘షీట్రేడ్స్‌ ఇండియా హబ్‌’ను ది ఫెడరేషన్‌ ఆఫ్‌ ఇండియన్‌ ఎక్స్‌పోర్ట్‌ ఆర్గనైజేషన్స్‌ (ఫియో) 2025, మార్చి 11న ప్రారంభించింది. ఇంటర్నేషనల్‌ ట్రేడ్‌ సెంటర్‌ భాగస్వామ్యంలో ఈ కార్యక్రమాన్ని చేపట్టనుంది. బ్రిటన్‌ ప్రభుత్వం నిర్వహిస్తున్న షీట్రేడ్స్‌ కామన్‌వెల్త్‌+ కార్యక్రమం దీనికి నిధులు సమకూరుస్తుంది. అంతర్జాతీయంగా 20వ షీట్రేడ్స్‌ హబ్‌ కోసం ఆతిథ్య సంస్థగా ఫియో వ్యవహరించనుంది.

పీఎం సూర్యఘర్‌ పథకం

ఇళ్ల పైకప్పులపై సౌరశక్తి ఫలకాలు ఏర్పాటు చేసుకుని, ఉత్పత్తి చేసే విద్యుత్తు ద్వారా, ఇంటి అవసరాలు తీర్చుకునేందుకు కేంద్రప్రభుత్వం 2024 ఫిబ్రవరిలో ప్రవేశపెట్టిన పీఎం సూర్యఘర్‌ పథకం కింద ఇప్పటివరకు (2025, మార్చి 11) 10.09 లక్షల ఇళ్లకు ప్రయోజనం చేకూరినట్లు కొత్త, పునరుత్పత్తి ఇంధన మంత్రి ప్రహ్లాద్‌జోషి తెలిపారు. ఇవి 3 గిగావాట్ల విద్యుదుత్పత్తికి సమానమని పేర్కొన్నారు. 2025 అక్టోబరు నాటికి 20 లక్షలు, 2027 మార్చికల్లా కోటి ఇళ్లకు సౌరవిద్యుత్తు అందించాలన్నది ఈ పథక లక్ష్యం.

ఆస్ట్రియా సంస్థతో ఒప్పందం

పైలట్ల శిక్షణకు వినియోగించే డీఏ40 ఎన్‌జీ విమానాల ఉత్పత్తి మనదేశంలో మొదలు కానుంది. ఈ మేరకు ఆస్ట్రియాకు చెందిన డైమండ్‌ ఎయిర్‌క్రాఫ్ట్‌ అనే సంస్థతో మనదేశంలోని కోయంబత్తూరు కంపెనీ, శక్తి ఎయిర్‌క్రాఫ్ట్‌ ఇండస్ట్రీ ఒప్పందం కుదుర్చుకుంది. దీని ప్రకారం శక్తి ఇండస్ట్రీ, ఆస్ట్రియా నుంచి 200 విమానాలు కొనుగోలు చేస్తుంది. ఇందులో 150 విమానాలను భారత్‌లో అసెంబుల్‌ చేస్తారు. దీనికి ఏరో క్లబ్‌ ఆఫ్‌ ఇండియా సంధానకర్తగా వ్యవహరిస్తుంది.

సిప్రీ నివేదిక

రష్యాతో దీర్ఘకాలంగా యుద్ధం సాగిస్తున్న ఉక్రెయిన్‌ 2020-24కు సంబంధించి ప్రపంచంలోనే అతిపెద్ద ఆయుధ దిగుమతిదారుగా ఉంది. ఆ తర్వాతి స్థానంలో భారత్‌ ఉంది. 2015-19తో పోలిస్తే ఉక్రెయిన్‌ ఆయుధ దిగుమతులు వంద శాతం పెరిగాయి. ఈ మేరకు అంతర్జాతీయ మేధో మథన సంస్థ స్టాక్‌హోమ్‌ ఇంటర్‌నేషనల్‌ పీస్‌ రిసెర్చ్‌ ఇన్‌స్టిట్యూట్‌ (సిప్రీ) ఒక నివేదికను విడుదల చేసింది. ముఖ్యాంశాలు: 2015-19 నుంచి 2024 కాలంలో భారత ఆయుధ దిగుమతులు 9.3 శాతం మేర తగ్గాయి. ఇదే కాలంలో ఐరోపా దేశాల ఆయుధ దిగుమతులు 155 శాతం పెరిగాయి. ప్రపంచ ఆయుధ ఎగుమతుల్లో అమెరికా వాటా పెరిగి, 43 శాతానికి చేరింది. రష్యా ఎగుమతులు ఏకంగా 64 శాతం మేర పడిపోయాయి. అంతర్జాతీయంగా భారత్‌ చేసుకున్న ఆయుధ దిగుమతుల్లో అధిక భాగం (36 శాతం).. రష్యా నుంచే వచ్చాయి. అయితే 2015-19లో అది 55 శాతంగా, 2010-14లో 72 శాతంగా ఉండేది.

స్విస్‌ నివేదిక

ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా నానాటికీ పెరుగుతున్న వాయు కాలుష్యంపై ఇటీవల స్విస్‌ ఎయిర్‌ క్వాలిటీ టెక్నాలజీ కంపెనీ ఐక్యూ ‘ద వరల్డ్‌ ఎయిర్‌ క్వాలిటీ రిపోర్ట్‌ 2024’ నివేదికను విడుదల చేసింది. ఇందులో ప్రపంచంలో అత్యధికంగా కాలుష్యం వెలువడే 20 నగరాల్లో 12 భారత్‌లోనే ఉన్నాయని వెల్లడించింది. ఈ జాబితాలో మేఘాలయలోని బైర్నీహాట్‌ నగరం తొలిస్థానంలో నిలవగా తరువాతి స్థానంలో దిల్లీ ఉంది. అదేవిధంగా ఈ జాబితాలో ముల్లన్‌పుర్‌(పంజాబ్‌), ఫరీదాబాద్, గురుగ్రామ్‌ (హరియాణా), లోనీ, గ్రేటర్‌ నొయిడా, నొయిడా, ముజఫర్‌నగర్‌(ఉత్తర్‌ప్రదేశ్‌), గంగానగర్, భివాడి, హనుమాన్‌గఢ్‌(రాజస్థాన్‌) ఉన్నాయి.

మారిషస్‌ పురస్కారం

మెల్‌బోర్న్‌

టెస్టు క్రికెట్‌ 150వ వార్షికోత్సవం సమయంలో మెల్‌బోర్న్‌ క్రికెట్‌ మైదానం (ఎంసీజీ)లో డేనైట్‌ మ్యాచ్‌ నిర్వహించనున్నారు. 2027, మార్చి 11న ఆస్ట్రేలియా-ఇంగ్లాండ్‌ మధ్య ఈ టెస్టు ఆరంభం కానుంది. ఎంసీజీలో జరగబోయే తొలి గులాబి బంతి మ్యాచ్‌ ఇదే. 1877లో ఈ మైదానంలో జరిగిన మొదటి టెస్టులో ఆస్ట్రేలియా-ఇంగ్లాండ్‌ తలపడ్డాయి. 1977లో నిర్వహించిన వందో టెస్టులోనూ ఇంగ్లిష్‌ జట్టుతోనే ఆసీస్‌ ఆడింది. ఈ రెండు మ్యాచ్‌ల్లోనూ కంగారూ జట్టు 45 పరుగుల తేడాతోనే గెలవడం విశేషం.
