Private investments Rs. 2.67 lakh crore

♦ Aaccording to an RBI article, Capital investment by the private sector is likely to rise 21.5 percent to Rs.2.67 lakh crore in 2025-26 aided by robust macroeconomic fundamentals, and a 100-bps policy rate cut. ♦ The article, titled Private Corporate Investment: Growth in 2024-25 and Outlook for 2025-26, said Indian companies entered the fiscal year with healthier balance sheets, stronger cash buffers, improved profitability, and better access to diversified funding sources despite global uncertainties. ♦ The article has been authored by Snigdha Yogindran, Sukti Khandekar, Rajesh B Kavediya and Aloke Ghosh, all from the RBI's Department of Statistics and Information Management.

Global Peace Index (GPI) 2025

♦ Singapore was ranked the safest country in Asia, securing the 6th position globally in the latest Global Peace Index (GPI) 2025. ♦ The report was released by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP). ♦ The 19th edition of the index assessed 163 countries on parameters such as safety, conflict, and militarisation.  ♦ India was ranked 115th out of 163 countries in the 2025 index, with a score of 2.229, unchanged from 2024.  ♦ Top 10 Most Peaceful Countries Globally are: Iceland – 1.095, Ireland – 1.260, New Zealand – 1.282, Austria – 1.294, Switzerland – 1.294, Singapore – 1.357, Portugal – 1.371, Denmark – 1.393, Slovenia – 1.409, Finland – 1.420

Exercise Yudh Kaushal 3.0

♦ The Indian Army has conducted Exercise Yudh Kaushal 3.0 in the high-altitude Kameng region of Arunachal Pradesh, showcasing its preparedness for next-generation warfare in extreme Himalayan conditions. ♦ The exercise featured large-scale manoeuvres with drone surveillance, precision strikes, real-time target acquisition, air–littoral operations and synchronized battlefield tactics. ♦ The exercise also marked the active participation of the Indian defence industry, reflecting the push for indigenous innovation under the vision of self-reliance.

Nationsl Small Industry Day

♦ The Nationsl Small Industry Day is observed in India every year on August 30. ♦ This day recognises the contributions of small businesses and industries to the economy. ♦ The origins of Small Industry Day can be traced back to the year 2000 when the Indian government introduced a comprehensive policy package for small-scale industries (SSI). ♦ To mark this significant development, the Ministry of Small-Scale Industries declared August 30 as Small Industries Day. ♦ For the very first time, on August 30, 2001, the ministry organised a convention for entrepreneurs in the small-scale industry in New Delhi.

BWF World Championships semi-final

♦ Star Indian shuttlers Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty had to settle for a men's doubles bronze after losing their BWF World Championships semi-final on 30 August 2025. ♦ They lost 19-21, 21-18, 12-21 against the Chinese pair of Chen Bo Yang and Liu Yi.  ♦ This was the Indian pair's second medal at the Worlds, having won a bronze in 2022. ♦ They are only the third Indian pair/player to win multiple medals at the annual competition after PV Sindhu (5) and Saina Nehwal (2).

India and Bhutan

♦ India and Bhutan have signed an MoU on Technical Cooperation in Agriculture and Allied Sectors. ♦ Secretary, Agriculture Ministry Devesh Chaturvedi and Bhutan’s Agriculture Secretary Thinley Namgyel signed the MoU in Thimpu. ♦ The MoU will serve as a framework for collaboration in various areas including agricultural research and innovation, livestock health and production, post-harvest management, value chain development, and the exchange of knowledge, skills, and expertise.

♦ Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh launched the country's first National Biofoundry Network, describing it as a step towards making biotechnology a driver of India's economy, environment and employment. ♦ The National Biofoundry Network comprises six institutions to help scale up proof-of-concept developments, enhance indigenous biomanufacturing, and create employment opportunities. ♦ The platforms integrate tools such as synthetic biology, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and omics technologies to accelerate the development of sustainable solutions in health, agriculture, food systems, clean energy, industrial biotechnology, and climate resilience.

Urjit Patel

♦ The government has approved the appointment of former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Dr. Urjit Patel as Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a three-year term on 29 August 2025. ♦ Patel’s appointment follows the abrupt termination of Krishnamurthy V. Subramanian’s services, which ended his term about six months early.  ♦ A Kenyan-born Indian economist, Patel began his career at the IMF over 30 years ago. ♦ He initially worked in Washington, D.C., before moving to India in 1992 as the IMF’s deputy resident representative in New Delhi. ♦ He became the 24th governor of the RBI in 2016, succeeding Raghuram Rajan. ♦ In 2018, he became the first RBI governor to resign for personal reasons, serving the shortest term since 1992.

India’s first end-to-end semiconductor

♦ Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with Chief Minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel, inaugurated one of India’s first end-to-end semiconductor OSAT pilot line facility of CG Power at Sanand, Gujarat. ♦ This milestone marks a crucial step in India’s semiconductor journey under the India Semiconductor Mission, with CG Semi investing over Rs.7,600 crore over five years to develop two advanced facilities aimed at chip assembly, packaging, testing, and post-test services. ♦ The inaugurated G1 facility can handle around 0.5 million units per day and is set for commercial production in 2026, while the under-construction G2 will eventually scale up to 14.5 million units per day, generating over 5,000 jobs.
