♦ The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) crossed 20 billion transactions in August for the first time in its history, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) data showed on 1 September 2025. ♦ In August, UPI transactions reached 20.01 billion mark, registering a 2.8 percent increase over July (19.47 billion). On the annual basis, this is a 34 percent increase. ♦ In terms of value, UPI recorded transactions worth Rs.24.85 lakh crore during August, up 24 percent on-year, the data showed. ♦ Moreover, the average daily transaction count jumped to 645 million (up from 628 million in July), and the daily transaction value stood at Rs 80,177 crore, as per the NPCI data. ♦ UPI had earlier achieved a record of crossing 700 million transactions in a single day on August 2.
♦ The 21st edition of the India–USA Joint Military Exercise Yudh Abhyas 2025, scheduled from 1st to 14th September 2025. ♦ An Indian Army contingent has departed for Fort Wainwright in Alaska to participate in this exercise. ♦ The Indian contingent is drawn from the Madras Regiment, while the US side includes troops from the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment “Bobcats,” part of the Arctic Wolves Brigade Combat Team under the 11th Airborne Division. ♦ The exercise will culminate in jointly planned and executed tactical manoeuvres, ranging from live-fire exercises to high-altitude warfare scenarios, with a focus on improving capabilities for United Nations peacekeeping operations and strengthening preparedness for multi-domain challenges. ♦ This exercise has been active since its inception in the year 2002.

♦ India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections rose by 6.5% year-on-year to Rs.1.86 lakh crore in August 2025, according to government data released on September 1. ♦ This marks the eighth consecutive month that revenues have remained above the Rs.1.8 lakh crore mark. ♦ During August, gross domestic GST revenue grew 9.6% to Rs.1.37 lakh crore, while tax from imports slipped 1.2% to Rs.49,354 crore. ♦ Refunds fell sharply by 20% year-on-year to Rs.19,359 crore. ♦ Net GST revenue, however, showed strong momentum, rising 10.7% to Rs.1.67 lakh crore.
