♦ Li Quanhai was re-elected as president of World Sailing for a new four-year term at the organisation's Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Singapore on 10 November 2024. ♦ Ozlem Akdurak (TUR), Daniel Belcher (AUS), Tomasz Chamera (POL), Beatriz Gonzalez Luna (MEX), Line Markert (DEN), Josep Pla Maronda (AND) and Cory Sertl (USA) were elected as Vice Presidents and will join the World Sailing Board. ♦ World Sailing was founded in Paris in 1907. It is recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the global governing body for sailing, with 137 member national associations. ♦ The organisation holds leadership elections every four years, and Li first assumed the presidency in November 2020.'

♦ Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Secretary (East) Jaideep Mazumder and BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) Secretary General Indramani Pandey signed an agreement to establish the BIMSTEC Energy Centre (BEC) in Karnataka's Bengaluru. It aims to strengthen inter-grid connectivity across the region.  ♦ BEC will promote regional cooperation in the sector among India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Nepal and Thailand.  ♦ The BIMSTEC adopted a Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation in 2005. ♦ The MoU for establishing the BIMSTEC Grid Interconnection has come into force in April 2019. ♦ The BIMSTEC is now working on finalising policies for transmission of electricity and for trade, exchange of electricity and tariff mechanism. ♦ A BIMSTEC Grid Interconnection Master Plan is also under discussion within the bloc.

♦ According to Counterpoint Research, India's smartphone market has emerged as the second largest globally by unit volume and third largest by value in the third quarter of 2024. ♦ In this period, India accounted for 15.5% of global smartphone shipments, trailing only China, which held a 22% share. ♦ The United States followed with a 12% share. By market value, India captured approximately 12.3%, a slight increase from 12.1% in the same quarter the previous year (2023). ♦ China dominated the value segment with a 31% share, while the US secured 19%.

Indian Men’s Hockey Team captain Harmanpreet Singh

♦ Indian Men’s Hockey Team captain Harmanpreet Singh and former goalkeeper PR Sreejesh have won the FIH Player of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year titles for the year 2024. ♦ Both Harmanpreet and Sreejesh received recognition during the 49th FIH Statutory Congress in Oman on 9 November 2024. ♦ Two-time Olympic bronze medallist Harmanpreet received over 63 percent of all votes cast in his category. Similarly, Sreejesh was highly popular among voters, polling over 62 percent of all votes in his category. ♦ The winners were selected through a voting process involving an expert panel, national hockey associations, fans, and media. ♦ Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh led the scoring charts at the Paris Olympics with 10 goals, including goals in the quarterfinal, semi-final and both goals in the bronze medal match against Spain, which India won 2-1 to secure their second consecutive podium finish at the Olympics. ♦ Double Olympic medallist Sreejesh, who quit the game after the Paris Olympics, prevailed over Netherlands' Pirmin Blaak, Luis Calzado of Spain, Jean-Paul Danneberg of Germany and Argentina's Tomas Santiago to win the top prize in goalkeepers category.

♦ India’s Pankaj Advani has won the IBSF World Billiards Championship 150-up format title on 9 November 2024. ♦ He defeated England’s Robert Hall in the final clash of the tournament at Doha in Qatar.  ♦ This was Pankaj's 28th world title, seventh in a row. ♦ Advani’s winning streak had begun in 2016 and has also survived two years (2020, 2021) of vacuum created by the Covid-19 pandemic. ♦ Singapore's Peter Gilchrist and India's Sourav Kothari shared the joint bronze medal in championship.

Fast Interceptor Crafts (FICs)

♦ India gifted two water-jet-propelled Fast Interceptor Crafts (FICs) to Mozambique as part of its capacity-building engagements with friendly foreign nations of the Indian Ocean Region. ♦ The FICs were transshipped from India by INS Gharial. These water-jet-propelled boats have a top speed of 45 knots and a range of 200 nautical miles at 12 knots.  ♦ They can carry a crew of five personnel and are equipped with machine guns and bullet-resistant cabins.  ♦ The two FICs will significantly aid Mozambique in its efforts to combat maritime terrorism and the ongoing insurgency in Cabo Delgado province.

హిందూ మహాసముద్ర ప్రాంత దేశాలతో స్నేహపూర్వక సంబంధాలను పెంచుకోవడంలో భాగంగా మొజాంబిక్‌ దేశానికి భారత ప్రభుత్వం రెండు ఫాస్ట్‌ ఇంటర్‌సెప్టర్‌ క్రాఫ్ట్‌(ఎఫ్‌ఐసీ) బోట్లను కానుకగా అందజేసింది. 2024 నవంబరు 8న మొజాంబిక్‌ ప్రభుత్వానికి అధికారికంగా వాటిని అప్పగించినట్లు నేవీ వర్గాలు తెలిపాయి. ఈ ఫాస్ట్‌ వాటర్‌ జెట్‌ ప్రొపల్షన్‌ బోట్లు సముద్ర జలాల్లో 45 నాటికల్‌ మైళ్ల వేగంతో దూసుకుపోతాయని నేవీ వర్గాలు వెల్లడించాయి.
