Tavasya

♦ The Indian Navy’s second Project 1135.6 additional follow-on frigate ‘Tavasya‘ has launched at Goa Shipyard Limited’s (GSL) facility in Goa. ♦ Tavasya measures 124.8 metres (m) in length and 15.2m in width, with a draught of 4.5m, and is designed for various combat operations including surface, sub-surface, and air engagements.   ♦ Named after the legendary mace of Bhima from the Mahabharata, Tavasya symbolises the indomitable spirit and growing strength of the Indian Navy. ♦ The contract for constructing two Project 1135.6 follow-on frigates was finalised with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) on 25 January 2019.  The first vessel, ‘Triput‘, was launched on 23 July 2024. ♦ Both of these ships incorporate a proportion of indigenous equipment, weapons, and sensors.  ♦ Both Triput and Tavasya are approximately 125 meters long with a draught of 4.5 meters and a displacement of around 3,600 tons. ♦ They can achieve a maximum speed of 28 knots and are equipped with stealth features, advanced weapons, sensors, and platform management systems. ♦ These frigates are follow-ons of the P1135.6 series, now being constructed indigenously by an Indian shipyard.

♦ Indian wrestler Sunil Kumar secured a bronze medal in the 87kg Greco Roman category at the Asian Championship in Amman, Jordan on 25 March 2025. ♦ He defeated China's Jiaxin Huang in the bronze medal match. ♦ This was Sunil Kumar’s fifth senior medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships. ♦ He won the silver medal in 2019 and ended India’s 27-year-long wait for a gold medal in Greco-Roman wrestling at the Asian Championships in 2020. ♦ He also clinched successive bronze medals in 2022 and 2023. ♦ At Hangzhou 2023, Sunil Kumar won India’s first Asian Games medal in Greco-Roman wrestling since Ravinder Singh and Sunil Kumar Rana won bronze medals at Guangzhou 2010.

Green and Digital Shipping Corridor

♦ India and Singapore signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) for Green and Digital Shipping Corridor (GDSC), with a focus on digitalisation and decarbonisation on 25 March 2025. ♦ GDSC will enhance collaboration between both countries and help accelerate the development and uptake of zero or near-zero GHG emission technologies and the adoption of digital solutions. ♦ The LoI was signed by R. Lakshmanan, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) of India, and Teo Eng Dinh, Chief Executive of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.

Gauba served as the top bureaucrat of the country for five years from 2019 to August 2024. ♦ Gauba has also served as Union home secretary, secretary in the Ministry of Urban Development and chief secretary of Jharkhand.

♦ The Indian government and IBM are exploring opportunities to collaborate on quantum computing, artificial intelligence (AI), and geospatial AI solutions, the Ministry of Science and Technology announced on 25 March 2025. ♦ IBM’s Global Head, Arvind Krishna, met Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh to discuss how the two sides can work together in these advanced technology fields. ♦ The meeting took place as India pushes forward with its National Quantum Mission, an initiative aimed at making the country a global leader in quantum technology.
