President of India Droupadi Murmu

♦ President of India Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the Assembly of the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) in New Delhi on 24 September 2024. The four-day conference will have a series of discussions on the evolving role of Supreme Audit Institutions in fostering transparency and accountability. More than 200 delegates representing 42 countries and international organizations are participating in this assembly. ♦ 2024 assembly is the assumption of the chair of ASOSAI by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India Girish Chandra Murmu for the term 2024-2027.

K.V.S. Manian

♦ K.V.S. Manian has assumed charge as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Federal Bank. He replaced Shyam Srinivasan who recently completed his term as the MD & CEO of Federal Bank after 14 years. Manian joins Federal Bank after a career spanning over two and a half decades at Kotak Mahindra Bank Limited.

ATP 250 Hangzhou Open 2024 title

♦ Indian duo Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Vijay Sundar Prashanth won the ATP 250 Hangzhou Open 2024 title on 24 September 2024. They defeated German pair Constantin Frantzen and Hendrik Jebens in the men’s doubles final in China.  ♦ For Jeevan, this is his second ATP title, with his last win dating back to the 2017 Chennai Open alongside Rohan Bopanna. For Vijay, this marks his first title on the ATP circuit.

♦ Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the 41st Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Commanders' Conference in New Delhi on 24 September 2024. The three-day conference focusses on advancing the growth and infrastructure development of the ICG. It serves as a crucial platform for ICG Commanders to engage in meaningful discussions on strategic, operational, and administrative matters amid evolving geopolitical landscapes and maritime security complexities.

Sri Lanka President Anura Kumara Dissanayake

♦ Sri Lanka President Anura Kumara Dissanayake appointed Harini Amarasuriya as countrie’s Prime Minister on 24 September 2024. She is the third woman prime minister of Sri Lanka, following the world’s first woman prime minister, Sirimavo Bandaranaike and her daughter Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga.  ♦ Amarasuriya became a parliamentarian in 2020 under Dissanayake’s NPP coalition and will also hold the portfolios of foreign affairs, education and media.

S&P Global Ratings

♦ S&P Global Ratings maintained its growth forecast for India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at 6.8% for current fiscal (2024-25). In its latest Asia-Pacific economic outlook report, it also kept its forecast of 6.9% for the next fiscal year (2025-26).  ♦ The Indian economy grew 8.2 per cent in the last fiscal (2023-24). ♦ S&P expects inflation to average 4.5 per cent in the 2024-25 fiscal.

2024-25లో 6.8% వృద్ధి

ఈ ఆర్థిక సంవత్సరం (2024-25)లో భారత వృద్ధి రేటు 6.8 శాతంగా నమోదు కావొచ్చని ఎస్‌ అండ్‌ పీ గ్లోబల్‌ రేటింగ్స్‌ 2024, సెప్టెంబరు 24న అంచనా వేసింది. 2025-26లో వృద్ధి రేటు 6.9 శాతానికి చేరొచ్చని పేర్కొంది. గత ఆర్థిక సంవత్సరం (2023-24)లో దేశ ఆర్థిక వ్యవస్థ 8.2% వృద్ధి సాధించింది.  2024-25లో ద్రవ్యోల్బణం సరాసరిన 4.5 శాతంగా నమోదు కావొచ్చని ఎస్‌ అండ్‌ పీ అంచనా వేసింది.

నౌక నుంచి రోదసిలోకి రాకెట్‌ ప్రయోగం

చైనా సముద్రంలోని ఒక వేదిక నుంచి ఉపగ్రహ వాహకనౌక ద్వారా రోదసిలోకి విజయవంతంగా 8 శాటిలైట్లను పంపింది. షాండాంగ్‌ ప్రావిన్స్‌ తీరానికి చేరువలోని హైయాంగ్‌ సముద్ర వేదికపై నుంచి ఈ ప్రయోగం జరిగింది. ఇందులో జిలాంగ్‌-3 (స్మార్ట్‌ డ్రాగన్‌-3) రాకెట్‌ను ఉపయోగించారు. ఘన ఇంధనంతో పనిచేసే ఈ రాకెట్‌ను చైనా ఏరోస్పేస్‌ సైన్స్‌ అండ్‌ టెక్నాలజీ కార్పొరేషన్‌ అభివృద్ధి చేసింది.

అవయవదానంలో మహిళలదే పైచేయి

భారతదేశంలో 2023లో మొత్తం 16,542 అవయవ దానాలు జరిగినట్లు  కేంద్ర ఆరోగ్య మంత్రిత్వ శాఖ వెల్లడించింది. ఇందులో బతికుండగా 15,436 మంది అవయవదానానికి ముందుకురాగా, వారిలో 9,784 మంది మహిళలు.  2023లో బతికున్నవారి నుంచి, చనిపోయినవారి నుంచి తీసుకున్న అవయవాలతో 18,378 అవయవ మార్పిళ్లు జరిగినట్లు కేంద్రం తెలిపింది. ఇందులో అత్యధికంగా 13,426 కిడ్నీమార్పిడి శస్త్రచికిత్సలు జరిగాయి. 4,491 కాలేయం, 221 గుండెమార్పిడి శస్త్రచికిత్సలు చేశారు.  మరణించినవారి నుంచి పొందిన అవయవదానాల్లో తెలంగాణ (252) తొలిస్థానంలో ఉండగా; తమిళనాడు, కర్ణాటక (178) తర్వాతి స్థానాల్లో నిలిచాయి.
