♦ BIMSTEC (the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Collaboration) Day is celebrated every year on June 6.  ♦ BIMSTEC is an international regional association consisting of seven member countries in the Bay of Bengal area: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. ♦ Its main goal is to promote diverse technical and economic collaboration among these nations.  ♦ BIMSTEC was formed on 6 June 1997 through the acceptance of the Bangkok Declaration. ♦ Originally referred to as BIST-EC (Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand Economic Cooperation), it later incorporated Myanmar and subsequently Nepal and Bhutan. ♦ The main office of the organisation is located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. ♦ The 4th meeting of the India-Central Asia Dialogue was held in New Delhi on 6 June 2025 under the chairship of the External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar. ♦ Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan took part in the meeting. ♦ The dialogue was focused on strengthening regional cooperation, with discussions covering trade, connectivity, technology, and development partnerships. ♦ The ministers also exchange views on regional security and other pressing regional and global issues of mutual interest.

Reserve Bank of India

♦ The Reserve Bank of India’s six-member Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has slashed the repo rate by a 50 basis points to 5.50 percent, marking the third consecutive reduction since February 2025. ♦ The MPC move aims to boost growth prospects as inflation remains below the 4 percent target. ♦ The rate cut will benefit borrowers, especially home loans, while depositors and savers can expect lower returns on their bank deposits in the coming months. ♦ The central bank also cut the cash reserve ratio of banks by 100 basis points to 3 percent, releasing Rs 2.5 lakh crore of lendable resources to the banking system. Highlights: ♦ The RBI has revised its inflation outlook for 2025-26 downwards from the earlier forecast of 4 percent to 3.7 percent.  ♦ The RBI has projected India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth at 6.5 percent for 2025-26, with domestic economic activity showing resilience on the back of a strong agriculture sector, industry picking up, and the services sector expected to maintain momentum.
