♦ The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) introduced a new digital platform, MITRA, to assist investors in tracking and reclaiming inactive or unclaimed mutual fund folios on 12 February 2025. ♦ The objective of the platform, Mutual Fund Investment Tracing and Retrieval Assistant, is to encourage investors to search for forgotten MF investments and update KYC as per the current norms. ♦ Mutual Fund Investment Tracing and Retrieval Assistant (MITRA) will help with investments that may have been overlooked, lost, or left unclaimed due to outdated know your customer (KYC) details or the demise of the original investor.

Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing (IIITDM)

♦ The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing (IIITDM) Kancheepuram and the Education and Research Network of India (ERNET) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance research collaboration. ♦ As part of this agreement, a Joint Research Lab dedicated to the "Internet of Things (IoT) Functionality Validation Sandbox" has been inaugurated at IIITDM Kancheepuram. ♦ This collaboration is expected to boost research in emerging technologies, enhance industry-academia linkages, and provide students with advanced training opportunities. ♦ The initiative aims to strengthen India's innovation ecosystem through joint projects, funding proposals, and access to ERNET's technological infrastructure.

♦ Tulsi Gabbard was confirmed as America’s new Director of National Intelligence (DNI) under the Trump administration on 12 February 2025. ♦ The Senate voted 52 to 48, mostly along party lines, to confirm Gabbard to the position overseeing the 18-agency intelligence community and acting as Trump's top adviser on intelligence issues. ♦ Tulsi Gabbard left the Democratic party in 2022 and registered as an independent. She endorsed Trump several months before the election and officially joined the Republican party in October 2024.

Ilie Bolojan

♦ Centrist Liberal Party leader Ilie Bolojan became Romania’s interim president on 12 February 2025. ♦ Bolojan, who had previously served as interim president of the National Liberal Party, suspended himself from party leadership prior to assuming office. ♦ He will serve as interim president until May 2025, when Romania holds its presidential elections. The first round is scheduled for May 4, with a potential runoff on May 18. ♦ Ilie Bolojan was elected President of the Senate in December 2024.

ADNOC Gas and Indian Oil

♦ ADNOC Gas has signed a 14-year sales and purchase agreement (SPA) with Indian Oil Corporation for the export of up to 1.2 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) on 12 February 2025. ♦ This agreement converts the previous Heads of Agreement between the parties into an SPA, with first deliveries to begin in 2026.  ♦ The agreement was signed by ADNOC Gas and Indian Oil, is valued in the range of $7 billion to $9 billion over its 14-year term, and signifies a major step forward in the partnership between the two industry leaders.

♦ Greece’s parliament elected its former speaker, Constantine Tassoulas as the country’s president on 12 February 2025. ♦ He is a lawyer and a lawmaker since 2000 and has previously served as Greece’s Culture Minister and Deputy Defence Minister, won the backing of 160 lawmakers in vote in the 300-seat parliament. ♦ He will succeed Katerina Sakellaropoulou, Greece’s first female president, whose five-year term expires in March, 2025. ♦ Tassoulas will be sworn in as head of state on 13 March 2025.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi

♦ Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron held bilateral talks on 12 February 2025, signing key agreements in technology, civil nuclear energy, environmental sustainability, and cultural affairs. ♦ In the field of technology and innovation, India and France issued a declaration on artificial intelligence and launched the India-France Year of Innovation 2026 logo. ♦ A letter of intent was signed between India’s Department of Science and Technology (DST) and France’s INRIA to establish the Indo-French Center for Digital Sciences. Additionally, an agreement was reached to host 10 Indian startups at Station F, France’s leading startup incubator. ♦ The two countries also strengthened their civil nuclear energy collaboration with multiple agreements. ♦ These included a declaration of intent to establish a partnership on advanced modular reactors and small modular reactors, a renewal of the memorandum of understanding between India’s Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and France’s CAE for cooperation with the Global Center for Nuclear Energy Partnership (GCNEP), and an implementing agreement between DAE and CEA on cooperation between GCNEP India and France’s Institute for Nuclear Science and Technology (INSTN). ♦ In the Indo-Pacific and sustainable development sectors, both nations signed a joint declaration of intent on triangular development cooperation, furthering their commitment to regional growth.

క్రియాశీలకంగా లేని మ్యూచువల్‌ ఫండ్‌ ఖాతాల్లోని పెట్టుబడులను క్లెయిమ్‌ చేసుకునేందుకు, అన్వేషణలో మదుపర్లకు సహకారం అందించేందుకు ‘మిత్రా’ పేరుతో కొత్త డిజిటల్‌ ప్లాట్‌ఫామ్‌ను సెబీ తీసుకొచ్చింది. ప్రస్తుత నిబంధనల ప్రకారం కేవైసీ వివరాల నవీకరణకూ ఇది తోడ్పడనుంది. తమ పేరు మీద పెద్దలు పెట్టుబడులు పెట్టారనే అవగాహన లేకపోవడం; మారిన చిరునామా, ఫోన్‌ నెంబర్, వ్యక్తిగత సమాచారాన్ని ఆయా పథకాల్లో లేనందున.. ఒక్కోసారి ఫండ్‌ పథకాల్లో పెట్టుబడుల విషయం కొందరు మదుపర్లకు తెలియడం లేదు. ఈ తరహా సమస్యకు ఈ ప్లాట్‌ఫామ్‌ పరిష్కారం చూపిస్తుందని సెబీ తెలిపింది.
