విఝింజమ్‌ ఇంటర్నేషనల్‌ సీపోర్ట్‌

ప్రధాని నరేంద్ర మోదీ 2025, మే 2న తిరువనంతపురంలో విఝింజమ్‌ ఇంటర్నేషనల్‌ సీపోర్ట్‌ను ప్రారంభించారు. దీన్ని అదానీ పోర్ట్స్‌ అండ్‌ స్పెషల్‌ ఎకనామిక్‌ జోన్‌(ఏపీఎస్‌ఈజడ్‌) ప్రభుత్వ, ప్రైవేట్‌ భాగస్వామ్యంతో రూ.8,867 కోట్లతో నిర్మించింది. మనదేశానికి చెందిన అన్ని సరకు రవాణా నౌకల ట్రాన్స్‌షిప్‌మెంట్, ఏడాది వ్యవధిలోనే విఝింజమ్‌ ఇంటర్నేషనల్‌ సీపోర్ట్‌ నుంచి నిర్వహించొచ్చని ఏపీఎస్‌ఈజడ్‌ పేర్కొంది.  ప్రస్తుతం మన దేశానికి చెందిన 75% వరకు ట్రాన్స్‌షిప్‌మెంట్‌ కార్గోను, ఇతర దేశాల్లోని పోర్టులే నిర్వహిస్తుండడంతో.. భారతీయ పోర్టులు ఏటా 200-220 మి. డాలర్ల ఆదాయాన్ని కోల్పోతున్నాయి. అంతర్జాతీయ షిప్పింగ్‌ మార్గానికి ఈ పోర్టు 10 నాటికల్‌ మైళ్ల దూరంలోనే ఉంది.  ఒక చిన్న నౌక నుంచి, సుదూర గమ్యాలకు ప్రయాణించే పెద్ద నౌకల్లోకి సరకు మార్చడమే ట్రాన్స్‌షిప్‌మెంట్‌. ఇందువల్ల రవాణా వ్యయాలు తగ్గుతాయి. అధిక లోతైన సముద్రతీరం ఉన్న పోర్టులు ఈ ప్రక్రియకు అవసరం.

చిత్ర రచనలో ఆటిజం బాలుడి ప్రపంచ రికార్డు

బుద్ధిమాంద్యం (ఆటిజం) గురించి ప్రపంచంలో అవగాహన పెంచడానికి 15 ఏళ్ల నైజీరియన్‌ బాలుడు కాన్యెయాచుక్వు టాగ్బో 12,304 చదరపు మీటర్ల కాన్వాస్‌పై చిత్రపటాన్ని రచించి గిన్నిస్‌ రికార్డు సాధించాడు. దీనికి ముందు రికార్డు 42 ఏళ్ల ఎమాద్‌ సలేహీ పేరు మీద ఉండేది. సలేహీ 9,652 చదరపు మీటర్ల కాన్వాస్‌పై చిత్రాన్ని రచించగా, ఆ రికార్డును కాన్యెయాచుక్వు బద్దలుకొట్టాడు. 2024 నవంబరులో అతడు గీసిన చిత్ర విస్తీర్ణం ఒక ఫుట్‌ బాల్‌ మైదానంకన్నా పెద్దది. నైజీరియా రాజధాని అబుజాలోని ఈగిల్‌ చౌక్‌లో అతడు చిత్ర రచన చేశాడు. ఆటిజం చిహ్నమైన రంగుల రిబ్బను లూప్‌ ఆకృతిని కాన్యెయాచుక్వు గీశాడు.

ప్రపంచ వృద్ధ మహిళ

ప్రపంచంలోనే అత్యధిక వయసు కలిగిన వ్యక్తిగా ఇంగ్లాండ్‌కు చెందిన ఎథెల్‌ కేటర్‌హామ్‌(115) నిలిచారు. 116 ఏళ్లు జీవించిన సిస్టర్‌ ఇనా కనబారో లుకాస్‌ ఇటీవల కన్నుమూయడంతో ఇప్పుడు ఎథెల్‌కు ఈ ఘనత దక్కింది. ఆమె 1909 ఆగస్టు 21న జన్మించారు. ప్రస్తుతం ఆమె కేంబెర్లీలో నివసిస్తున్నారు. ఎవరితోనూ వాదనలకు దిగకుండా ప్రశాంతంగా గడపడమే తన సుదీర్ఘ జీవితం వెనుక ఉన్న రహస్యమని ఎథెల్‌ చెప్పారు.

ఉత్తమ క్రీడాకారిణిగా సౌమ్య

తెలంగాణకు చెందిన సౌమ్య గుగులోత్‌ 2025 ఏడాదికి అఖిల భారత ఫుట్‌బాల్‌ సమాఖ్య (ఏఐఎఫ్‌ఎఫ్‌) ఉత్తమ మహిళా ప్లేయర్‌గా నిలిచింది. ఇండియన్‌ ఉమెన్స్‌ లీగ్‌లో ఈస్ట్‌ బెంగాల్‌కు ఆడిన సౌమ్య.. తొమ్మిది గోల్స్‌ సాధించింది. ఫైనల్లో 42వ నిమిషంలో గోల్‌తో జటును గెలిపించింది. ఏఐఎఫ్‌ఎఫ్‌ ఉత్తమ క్రీడాకారిణి అవార్డు అందుకున్న తొలి తెలంగాణ అమ్మాయి సౌమ్యనే. పురుషుల విభాగంలో సుభాషిష్‌ బోస్‌ ‘ఉత్తమ ప్లేయర్‌’గా ఎంపికయ్యాడు. బోస్‌ నాయకత్వంలోని మోహన్‌బగాన్‌ జట్టు ఐఎస్‌ఎల్‌ కప్‌తో పాటు లీగ్‌ విన్నర్స్‌ షీల్డ్‌నూ గెలుచుకుంది. 2020-21లో ముంబయి సిటీ తర్వాత.. ఒకే సీజన్లో ఈ రెండు ట్రోఫీలు గెలిచిన ఘనత మోహన్‌బగాన్‌దే.

World Tuna Day

♦ World Tuna Day is observed every year on May 2 to raise awareness about the importance of conserving and protecting tuna populations. ♦ Tuna is a rich source of Omega-3 fatty acids, proteins, minerals, and Vitamin B12, making it highly valued worldwide. ♦ World Tuna Day was first proposed at a meeting of the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission in 2011. ♦ In recognition of the urgent need to conserve tuna populations and promote sustainable fishing practices, the United Nations General Assembly officially declared May 2 as World Tuna Day in 2016. ♦ 2025 theme: “Our Ocean, Our Tuna, Our Future."

Men’s and Women’s Player of the Year awards for the 2024-25

♦ Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s Subhasish Bose and East Bengal’s Soumya Guguloth were honoured with the All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) prestigious Men’s and Women’s Player of the Year awards for the 2024-25 season, held in Bhubaneswar on 2 May 2025. ♦ The awards recognised their pivotal contributions to two of the most successful seasons in their clubs’ recent history.  ♦ Bose, the tireless left-back and Mohun Bagan’s defensive pillar, played a central role in the club’s record-breaking campaign that saw them clinch both the Indian Super League (ISL) Shield and Cup titles. ♦ Soumya Guguloth, East Bengal’s midfield dynamo, was equally influential in the club’s maiden Indian Women’s League (IWL) triumph. ♦ She ended the campaign as the third-highest goalscorer with nine goals, including the decisive strike in East Bengal’s 1-0 title-clinching win over Odisha FC on April 11 in Kolkata. ♦ Khalid Jamil was awarded Best Men’s Coach and Sujata Kar received the Best Women’s Coach honour. ♦ Vishal Kaith and Elangbam Panthoi Chanu were named Best Goalkeepers in the men’s and women’s categories respectively. ♦ Rising stars Brison Fernandes and Toijam Thoibisana Chanu were recognised as the Most Promising Players of the Year.

Reserve Bank of India

♦ As per the latest data released by the Reserve Bank of India, India’s total exports have touched an all-time high of 824.9 billion dollars in the financial year 2024-25, which includes the services trade for March 2025. ♦ This marks a growth of 6.01 percent over the previous year’s (2023-24) export figure of 778.1 billion dollars. Services exports led the surge, rising 13.6 percent to an all-time high of 387.5 billion dollars. ♦ In 2025 March alone, services exports grew 18.6 percent year-on-year to 35.6 billion dollars. ♦ Merchandise exports reached 437.4 billion dollars, with non-petroleum exports hitting a record 374.08 billion dollars, up 6 percent from the previous year (2024). ♦ The updated figures surpass the Commerce Ministry’s earlier estimate of 820.93 billion dollars, reflecting stronger-than-expected services trade performance.

India and Denmark

♦ India and Denmark have reinforced their long-standing energy cooperation by signing a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 2 May 2025. ♦ This agreement reflects both countries’ continued commitment to accelerating clean energy transitions. ♦ The MoU was signed by Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India, and H.E. Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen, Ambassador of Denmark to India, in the presence of Manohar Lal, Hon’ble Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs.  ♦ The renewed MoU supports India's ambitious target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. ♦ It aims to foster knowledge exchange and technological collaboration between the two countries, particularly in the area of clean and sustainable energy solutions.   ♦ This agreement follows five years of successful collaboration under the original MoU, signed on June 5, 2020, and initially set to expire on June 5, 2025. ♦ The proactive renewal ensures continuity in dialogue and cooperation, allowing for a seamless extension of joint efforts in energy sector development.

Narendra Modi

♦ Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally inaugurated India’s first deepwater transshipment port, named Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram, on 2 May 2025. ♦ The port was built by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) in partnership with the government under a public-private model at a cost of around Rs.8,900 crore. ♦ A transshipment port includes terminals, where cargo containers are shifted from one vessel to another before they reach their final destination. ♦ Until now, India lacked a full-fledged deepwater container transshipment port. With no infrastructure to handle large vessels, nearly 75 per cent of its transshipment cargo has been routed through foreign ports such as Colombo, Singapore, and Jebel Ali in the UAE.

Global Alliance for Mass Entrepreneurship (GAME)

♦ Global Alliance for Mass Entrepreneurship (GAME) and NITI Aayog have announced a strategic partnership aimed at fostering vibrant entrepreneurship ecosystems across multiple states in India on 2 May 2025. ♦ This collaboration will focus on advancing place-based interventions, starting with pilot sites in Nagpur, Visakhapatnam and Uttar Pradesh. ♦ The partnership seeks to empower local entrepreneurs bringing together relevant local stakeholders in that particular region’s entrepreneurship ecosystem, including government, corporates, educational institutes, financial institutes, champion entrepreneurs and community organisations.  ♦ this partnership, the pilot sites will implement GAME’s proven methodologies that focus on enabling entrepreneurs to start and scale businesses. ♦ These interventions include access to finance, capacity-building programs, policy advocacy and community-driven initiatives. ♦ The ultimate goal is to create self-sustaining ecosystems that can generate widespread employment opportunities.
