Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai

♦ Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai took oath as the 52nd Chief Justice of India on 14 May 2025. ♦ President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to Justice Gavai at a special ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan. ♦ He is the second Dalit to occupy the country's top legal post after Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan. ♦ Justice B R Gavai succeeded Justice Sanjiv Khanna, who demitted office on May 13. ♦ Justice Gavai became an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court in 2003 and a permanent judge in 2005. ♦ He was elevated as a Judge of the Supreme Court in 2019.

Ayurveda Day

♦ The government has officially designated 23rd September as Ayurveda Day. ♦ The Ayush Ministry stated that the change notified through a Gazette notification marks a significant shift from the earlier practice of observing Ayurveda Day on Dhanteras. ♦ The Ministry said, Ayurveda Day has been commemorated annually to promote Ayurveda as a scientific, evidence-based, and holistic system of medicine that plays a pivotal role in preventive healthcare and wellness.  ♦ It also noted that in the coming decade, the date of Dhanteras would continue to vary widely between 15th October and 12th November, posing logistical challenges for organising national and international observances.
