Deepak Bagla

♦ Deepak Bagla, the MD and CEO of Invest India assumed charge as the mission director of the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) under NITI Aayog. ♦ Bagla joins AIM with an extensive background spanning banking, investment promotion, policy advisory, and institutional leadership. ♦ Prior to this, Bagla was heading India’s national investment promotion and facilitation agency, Invest India. Under his leadership, Invest India emerged as a key institution supporting entrepreneurship, innovation, and startup growth across the country. ♦ The Atal Innovation Mission continues to play a central role in advancing the government’s mission on innovation and entrepreneurship.

Apache combat Helicopters

♦ Indian Army received the first batch of Apache Helicopters from United States at Hindon Airbase on 22 July 2025. ♦ The induction of first batch of three advanced combat helicopters Apache AH-64E will bolster Army operational capabilities along Western Border. ♦ It will be deployed in Jodhpur with Army Aviation Corps. ♦ The first batch has been delivered after a delay of 15 months from the original delivery schedule of May 2024 due to a disruption in supply chain. ♦ The Indian Army signed a $600 million deal with the United States in 2020 for six Apache attack helicopters.

United States announced it will again pull out UNESCO

♦ The United States announced it will again pull out of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). ♦ The decision will take effect at the end of December 2026. ♦ This will be the third time that the United States has left UNESCO, which is based in Paris, and the second time during a Trump administration.  ♦ The Trump administration in 2017 announced that the U.S. would withdraw from UNESCO, citing anti-Israel bias. ♦ That decision took effect a year later. ♦ The U.S. and Israel stopped financing UNESCO after it voted to include Palestine as a member state in 2011. ♦ The United States previously pulled out of UNESCO under the Reagan administration in 1984 because it viewed the agency as mismanaged, corrupt and used to advance the interests of the Soviet Union. ♦ It rejoined in 2003 during George W Bush's presidency.

♦ Gita Gopinath, the First Deputy Managing Director (FDMD) of the International Monetary Fund is set to leave the organisation towards August to rejoin the Harvard University. ♦ She joined the Fund as a Chief Economist in 2019, being the first woman to hold the position, and was later promoted to be the FDMD in 2022. ♦ Gopinath is an Indian-born US citizen. ♦ Prior to her appointment as IMF Chief Economist, she was the John Zwaanstra Professor of International Studies and Economics in the economics department of Harvard University. ♦ Before joining the faculty of Harvard University in 2005, she was an assistant professor of economics at the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business.
