Hurun India's Under35s list 2024

♦ Hurun India released its Under35s list 2024 on September 26. The list highlights 150 outstanding entrepreneurs under 35, recognising those with a minimum business valuation of USD 50 million for first-gen and USD 100 million for next-gen leaders across India. ♦ India ranked 58th globally, with a talent score of 40.47 in the IMD’s World Talent Ranking 2024. In 2023 India was at 56th rank. The ranking assesses nations based on their ability to develop, retain, and attract highly qualified domestic and international talent. Food and Public Distribution Minister Pralhad Joshi

♦ Food and Public Distribution Minister Pralhad Joshi inaugurated the two-day India Sugar and Bio-Energy conference in New Delhi on 26 September 2024. He said India is now the world’s third largest producer and consumer of Ethanol due to the policy changes made by our government. ♦ Speaking on Sugar Production in the country, the minister said that in the last decade sugarcane cultivation increased by about 18 percent while the sugarcane production has increased by 40 percent.

Global Innovation Index (GII) 2024

♦ India was ranked 39th in the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2024. A total of 133 countries are present in this list. The Geneva-based World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) released this index. In 2023 India was ranked 40th.  ♦ According to the WIPO’s GII 2024, Switzerland, Sweden, the US, Singapore, and the UK are the world’s most innovative economies, while China, Turkey, India, Vietnam, and the Philippines are the fastest climbers over the past decade. ♦ The GII was started in 2007 by INSEAD, a business school, and World Business, a British magazine, provides a comprehensive measure of global innovation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi

♦ Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated three Param Rudra supercomputers and High Performance Computing (HPC) systems for weather and climate research on 26 September 2024. The supercomputers, developed indigenously under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) and at a cost of about Rs 130 crore, will be deployed in Pune, Delhi, and Kolkata to support high-performance scientific research and development. ♦ He also inaugurated ‘Arka’ and ‘Arunika’, a High-Performance Computing (HPC) system tailored for weather and climate research, and interacted with scientists and researchers involved in the development of the infrastructure. ♦ The HPC system tailored for weather and climate research, is launched under a total project cost of Rs.850 crore, and is located at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) in Pune and the National Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecast (NCMRWF) in Noida.
