M V Shreyams Kumar

♦ M V Shreyams Kumar was elected president of the Indian Newspaper Society (INS), an apex body of publishers of newspapers, magazines, and periodicals on 27 September 2024. He is the Managing Director of the Mathrubhumi Printing & Publishing Company. Kumar succeeds Rakesh Sharma of Aaj Samaj newspaper. ♦ Vivek Gupta of Sanmarg was elected Deputy President, and Lokmat's Karan Rajendra Darda became Vice President. Also, Amar Ujala's Tanmay Maheshwari was elected as honorary treasurer of the society.  ♦ The election was held during the 85th annual general meeting of the INS.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla

♦ Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inaugurated the 21st Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Zone III Conference at the Mizoram Legislative Assembly Complex on 27 September 2024. This gathering, which aims to foster legislative sanctity, brings together key political figures and representatives from across the northeastern region.  ♦ The CPA was established in 1911. This is one of the oldest organizations within the Commonwealth, representing over 180 legislatures from 54 member countries. It aims to strengthen commitments to democratic governance and the parliamentary system, providing opportunities for collaboration among MPs and parliamentary staff on mutual interests and best practices. ♦ The CPA India Region was formed in 2004, consisting of 31 member branches, including the Parliament of India and state/union territory legislatures. The ongoing commitment to strengthening democracy in the northeastern region has led to the regular organization of regional conferences, with the first taking place in 1997.

‘Paryatan Mitra’ and ‘Paryatan Didi’

♦ The Ministry of Tourism launched a nationwide initiative called ‘Paryatan Mitra’ and ‘Paryatan Didi’ to promote responsible tourism across India on World Tourism Day (September 27). The initiative, which was piloted in six key tourist destinations - Orchha (Madhya Pradesh), Gandikota (Andhra Pradesh), Bodh Gaya (Bihar), Aizawl (Mizoram), Jodhpur (Rajasthan), and Sri Vijaya Puram (Andaman & Nicobar Islands) focuses on enhancing the tourist experience.  ♦ Through ‘Paryatan Mitra’ and ‘Paryatan Didi’, the Ministry aims to connect tourists with locals who act as proud Ambassadors and Storytellers of their regions.

Shigeru Ishiba

♦ Liberal Democratic Party leader and former defence minister Shigeru Ishiba was elected Japan's Prime Minister. He won his party's leadership contest on 27 September 2024. Among the nine candidates vying for the position, Ishiba secured 215 votes, defeating Economic Security Minister Sanae Takaichi by a narrow margin of 21 votes. He will replace current Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.  ♦ Shigeru Ishiba will assume office as the next Prime Minister once parliament convenes in October 2024. ♦ Ishiba first entered Japan’s parliament in 1986. He has served as Defence and Agriculture Minister.

నాగర్‌కర్నూల్‌ జిల్లా సోమశిల, నిర్మల్‌ జిల్లా ప్రధాన కేంద్రం నిర్మల్‌ ఉత్తమ పర్యాటక గ్రామాల పురస్కారాలను గెలుచుకున్నాయి. కేంద్ర పర్యాటకశాఖ 2024 సంవత్సరానికి ఎనిమిది కేటగిరీల్లో నిర్వహించిన పోటీల్లో స్పిరిచ్యువల్‌-వెల్‌నెస్‌ విభాగంలో సోమశిల, క్రాఫ్ట్స్‌ విభాగంలో నిర్మల్‌ గ్రామాలు ఎంపికయ్యాయి. ప్రపంచ పర్యాటక దినోత్సవం సందర్భంగా 2024, సెప్టెంబరు 27న దిల్లీలోని విజ్ఞాన్‌భవన్‌లో ఉపరాష్ట్రపతి జగ్‌దీప్‌ ధన్‌ఖడ్, కేంద్ర పర్యాటకమంత్రి గజేంద్రసింగ్‌ షెకావత్‌ అధ్యక్షతన జరిగిన కార్యక్రమంలో పురస్కారాలను ప్రదానం చేశారు.

అహోబిలానికి కేంద్ర అవార్డు

ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్‌లోని నంద్యాల జిల్లా అహోబిలానికి జాతీయ ఉత్తమ ఆధ్యాత్మిక పర్యాటక కేంద్రం అవార్డు దక్కింది. కేంద్ర పర్యాటకశాఖ 2024 సంవత్సరానికి ఎనిమిది కేటగిరీల్లో నిర్వహించిన పోటీల్లో ఆధ్యాత్మిక విభాగంలో అహోబిలానికి ఈ అవార్డు దక్కింది. ప్రపంచ పర్యాటక దినోత్సవం సందర్భంగా 2024, సెప్టెంబరు 27న దిల్లీలో ఉపరాష్ట్రపతి జగదీప్‌ ధన్‌ఖడ్, కేంద్ర పర్యాటక, సాంస్కృతిక మంత్రి గజేంద్రసింగ్‌ షెకావత్‌ అవార్డును రాష్ట్ర అధికారులకు అందజేశారు.

జపాన్‌ ప్రధానమంత్రిగా షిగెరు ఇషిబా

జపాన్‌ ప్రధానమంత్రి ఫుమియో కిషిద వారసుడిగా మాజీ రక్షణమంత్రి షిగెరు ఇషిబా ఎన్నికయ్యారు. 2024, సెప్టెంబరు 27న జరిగిన అధికార లిబరల్‌ డెమోక్రటిక్‌ పార్టీ (ఎల్‌డీపీ) అధ్యక్ష ఎన్నికల్లో ఆయన విజయం సాధించారు. 2024, అక్టోబరు 1న ఇషిబా దేశ 102వ ప్రధానమంత్రిగా బాధ్యతలు చేపట్టనున్నారు. ఎల్‌డీపీ అధ్యక్షుడిగా 2021లో కిషిద ఎన్నికయ్యారు. ఆయన మూడేళ్ల పదవీకాలం 2024 సెప్టెంబరుతో ముగుస్తుంది. దీంతో పార్టీకి అధ్యక్ష ఎన్నికలు నిర్వహించారు.

హైదరాబాద్‌ రాజేంద్రనగర్‌లోని భారతీయ వ్యవసాయ పరిశోధన మండలి (ఐకార్‌) శాస్త్రవేత్త జూకంటి అరవింద్‌కుమార్‌ ప్రపంచ మొక్కల జీవ, వృక్ష శాస్త్రం పరిశోధకుల్లో స్థానం సంపాదించారు. ప్రపంచ జాబితాలో దేశంలోని ఐకార్‌ నుంచి 22 మందికి అవకాశం దక్కగా అందులో అరవింద్‌కుమార్‌ ఒకరు.  అమెరికాలోని స్టాన్‌ఫర్డ్‌ వర్సిటీ వ్యవసాయ విభాగాధిపతి జాన్‌ పీఏ అయోడినిస్‌ నేతృత్వంలో ఈ పరిశోధనలు సాగాయి.
