అంతర్జాతీయ అక్షరాస్యత దినోత్సవం

వ్యక్తులు, సమాజ అభివృద్ధిలో అక్షరాస్యత పోషించే పాత్రను గుర్తించే లక్ష్యంతో ఏటా సెప్టెంబరు 8న ‘ప్రపంచ అక్షరాస్యత దినోత్సవం’ (International Literacy Day)గా నిర్వహిస్తారు. అక్షరాస్యత అంటే చదవడం, రాయడం, సమర్థవంతంగా మాట్లాడటం - వినగల సామర్థ్యంలో మనుషులు తమ చుట్టూ ఉన్న ప్రపంచాన్ని అర్థం చేసుకోవడం. ప్రస్తుత డిజిటల్‌ యుగంలో సాంకేతిక పరిజ్ఞానాన్ని నేర్చుకోవడం, ఉపయోగించడం ప్రధానం. దీన్నే డిజిటల్‌ అక్షరాస్యతగా పేర్కొంటారు. వ్యక్తిగత వృద్ధి, పౌర భాగస్వామ్యం, ఆర్థికాభివృద్ధికి ఇది చాలా ముఖ్యం. అందరికీ విద్య అనే భావనను పెంపొందించడంతోపాటు ఇది అందరి ప్రాథమిక హక్కు అని చాటిచెప్పడం ఈ రోజు ముఖ్య ఉద్దేశం. చారిత్రక నేపథ్యం: ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా నిరక్షరాస్యతను నిర్మూలించాలనే లక్ష్యంతో 1965, సెప్టెంబరు 8 నుంచి 19 వరకు టెహ్రాన్‌లో అంతర్జాతీయ సమావేశం జరిగింది. అన్ని దేశాల విద్యాశాఖ మంత్రులు ఈ సమావేశానికి హాజరయ్యారు. నిరక్షరాస్యత గురించి ప్రజల్లో అవగాహన కల్పించడం, అక్షరాస్యతను ప్రాథమిక మానవ హక్కుగా చేయడం లాంటి విషయాలను ఇందులో చర్చించారు. ‘అందరికీ విద్య’ను ప్రోత్సహించడంతోపాటు సమావేశ లక్ష్యాన్ని విశ్వవ్యాప్తం చేసే లక్ష్యంతో యునైటెడ్‌ నేషన్స్‌ ఎడ్యుకేషనల్, సైంటిఫిక్‌ అండ్‌ కల్చరల్‌ ఆర్గనైజేషన్‌ (యునెస్కో) ఏటా సెప్టెంబరు 8న ‘అంతర్జాతీయ అక్షరాస్యత దినోత్సవం’గా జరుపుకోవాలని 1966, అక్టోబరు 26న తీర్మానించింది. 1967 నుంచి ఏటా దీన్ని నిర్వహిస్తున్నారు.  2025 నినాదం:  “Promoting literacy in the digital era.”

ఫ్రాన్స్‌లో రాజకీయ అనిశ్చితి

ఫ్రాన్స్‌లో ప్రధానమంత్రి ఫ్రాన్సువా బేరూ నాయకత్వంలోని మైనారిటీ ప్రభుత్వం 2025, సెప్టెంబరు 8న ఓటమిపాలైంది. ప్రభుత్వానికి వ్యతిరేకంగా ప్రవేశపెట్టిన అవిశ్వాస తీర్మానంపై పార్లమెంటులో జరిగిన ఓటింగులో ప్రభుత్వానికి అనుకూలంగా 194 మంది సభ్యులు, ప్రతికూలంగా 364 మంది ఓటేశారు. దీంతో ప్రధాని బేరూ.. అధ్యక్షుడు ఇమ్మాన్యుయెల్‌ మెక్రాన్‌కు రాజీనామా సమర్పించారు.

దేశ వ్యాప్తంగా నదుల్లో నీటి మట్టం, ప్రవాహ స్థాయుల్ని లెక్కించేందుకు ఏర్పాటు చేసిన కేంద్రాల్లో 25 ప్రాంతాల్లో తీవ్ర వరద పరిస్థితులు నమోదయ్యాయని కేంద్ర జల సంఘం (సీడబ్ల్యూసీ) వెల్లడించింది. ఈ కేంద్రాల్లో 12 ఉత్తర్‌ప్రదేశ్‌లో, 10 బిహార్‌లో, పశ్చిమ బెంగాల్, ఝార్ఖండ్, రాజస్థాన్‌లలో చెరొకటి ఉన్నాయి

స్పెయిన్‌కి చెందిన కార్లోస్‌ అల్కరాస్‌ యుఎస్‌ ఓపెన్‌ ఛాంపియన్‌గా నిలిచాడు. 2025, సెప్టెంబరు 8న న్యూయార్క్‌లో జరిగిన పురుషుల సింగిల్స్‌ ఫైనల్స్‌లో ఈ రెండో సీడ్‌ ఆటగాడు 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4తో ప్రపంచ నంబర్‌వన్, టాప్‌సీడ్‌ యానిక్‌ సినర్‌ (ఇటలీ)ని ఓడించాడు.  యుఎస్‌ ఓపెన్‌ గెలిచే సమయానికి అల్కరాస్‌ వయసు 22 ఏళ్ల 125 రోజులు. అత్యంత పిన్న వయసులో ఈ ఘనత సాధించిన రెండో ఆటగాడు అతడు. జాన్‌ బోర్గ్‌ (22 ఏళ్ల 32 రోజులు) ముందున్నాడు. పిన్న వయసులో మూడు భిన్న గ్రాండ్‌స్లామ్‌ టైటిళ్లను గెలిచిన ఆటగాడు అల్కరాసే. మాట్స్‌ విలాండర్‌ (24 ఏళ్ల 6 రోజులు) రికార్డును అధిగమించాడు. అల్కరాస్‌ ఇంకా ఆస్ట్రేలియన్‌ ఓపెన్‌ గెలవలేదు.

Asian Table Tennis

♦ India will host the the 28th ITTF-ATTU Asian Table Tennis Teams Championships at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar from October 11 to 15. ♦ The announcement was made by Table Tennis Federation of India. ♦ Odisha had earlier hosted the 2019 Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships in Cuttack, but this will be its maiden Asian-level TT event. ♦ In 2024 Asian Championships, which was held in Kazakhstan, the Indian men’s and women’s teams clinched bronze medals in their respective events. ♦ Moreover, the pair of Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee won a historic bronze medal in women’s doubles.
