Madhya Pradesh

♦ Madhya Pradesh has emerged as the state with the highest number of vultures in India. ♦ According to the latest state-level vulture census conducted by the Forest Department, the population of vultures in the state has risen to 12,981. ♦ Correspondent reported that the census was carried out across 16 circles, 64 divisions, and nine protected areas under the Forest Department. ♦ In the 2019 census, the vulture population stood at 8,397, which further increased to 10,845 by 2024.  ♦ The vulture census in Madhya Pradesh began in 2016 and has been conducted periodically to monitor population trends. ♦ The state is home to seven species of vultures, of which four are native and three are migratory. ♦ The native species include the Long-billed Vulture (Gyps indicus), White-rumped Vulture (Gyps bengalensis), Egyptian Vulture (Neophron percnopterus), and Red-headed Vulture (Sarcogyps calvus).

National Dhanwantari Ayurveda Awards

♦ The Ministry of Ayush has conferred the prestigious ‘National Dhanwantari Ayurveda Awards’ for the current year (2025) on three distinguished practitioners for their exceptional contributions to the field of traditional Indian medicine. ♦ This year’s recipients are Vaidya Tara Chand Sharma, a renowned Nadi Vaidya and author; Vaidya Maya Ram Uniyal, a distinguished scholar of Dravyaguna Vigyana with six decades of service; and Vaidya Sameer Govind Jamadagni, founder of the Vishwa Vyakhyanmala national conference. ♦ Each recipient received a citation, a trophy featuring the statue of Lord Dhanwantari, and a cash prize of Rs.5 lakh, according to the ministry.

♦ Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran was appointed Chairman of Ratan Tata Endowment Foundation (RTEF) on 26 February 2025. ♦ This is a Section 8 entity set up by the late Ratan Tata to which he bequeathed much of his wealth for charitable and philanthropic purposes. ♦ The Ratan Tata Endowment Foundation was founded as a Section 8 company. ♦ The Foundation will work in the area of philanthropy and promote research and development in the tech sector to help and positively impact Indian society. ♦ Ratan Tata had appointed Burjis Taraporewala and R.R. Shastri as holding trustees of the Foundation, while Jamsheed Poncha was made the CEO.

United States will introduce a “Gold Card” programme

♦ US President Donald Trump announced that the United States will introduce a “Gold Card” programme for wealthy foreigners, granting them the right to live and work in the country, with a pathway to citizenship, in exchange for a USD 5 million fee. ♦ The Gold Card will replace the existing EB-5 immigrant investor visa program.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)

♦ The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy successfully conducted flight trials of the first-of-its-kind Naval Anti-Ship Missile (NASM-SR) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur on 26 February 2025. ♦ The missile, launched from an Indian Navy Sea King helicopter, demonstrated its capability against ship targets, marking a significant advancement in India’s defense technology. ♦ During the trial, the missile engaged a small ship target in sea-skimming mode at its maximum range, successfully validating its Man-in-Loop feature. ♦ This capability enables real-time target selection and in-flight retargeting, enhancing operational flexibility. ♦ The missile is equipped with an indigenous Imaging Infra-Red Seeker for terminal guidance, ensuring high-accuracy strikes. ♦ Developed by multiple DRDO laboratories, including the Research Centre Imarat, Defence Research and Development Laboratory, High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, and Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, the missile is being produced in collaboration with Development cum Production Partners, MSMEs, and start-ups.

ప్రభుత్వ రంగ సంస్థ ఎన్‌ఎండీసీ స్టీల్‌ లిమిటెడ్‌ అధిపతిగా ఎంఎన్‌వీఎస్‌ ప్రభాకర్‌ 2025, ఫిబ్రవరి 26న బాధ్యతలు చేపట్టారు. ఎన్‌ఎండీసీ నుంచి విడిపోయిన ఈ సంస్థకు ఛత్తీస్‌గఢ్‌లోని నాగర్నార్‌లో అత్యాధునిక స్టీలు కర్మాగారం ఉంది. ప్రస్తుతం 30 లక్షల టన్నుల హాట్‌ మెటల్‌ను ఈ కర్మాగారం ఉత్పత్తి చేస్తోంది.   ప్రభాకర్, గతంలో సెయిల్‌కు చెందిన రూర్కెలా స్టీలు ప్లాంట్‌లో సీజీఎంగా పనిచేశారు. అక్కడి నుంచి ఎన్‌ఎండీసీ స్టీలుకు వచ్చారు.
