♦ The Wall Street Journal published the list of 24 individuals dubbed "super billionaires" on 27 February 2025. ♦ These individuals, each possessing a net worth of $50 billion or more, are not just accumulating wealth but actively shaping industries, influencing global markets, and driving innovation. ♦ Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani and Reliance Industries’ Mukesh Ambani are among the world’s super billionaires. Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries—India’s most valuable company—has a fortune of $84.9 billion, while Adani’s net worth stands at $65.4 billion. World NGO Day

♦ World NGO Day is observed every year on February 27 to recognize and celebrate the contributions of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) worldwide. ♦ This day was officially recognised in 2010 and was first celebrated on February 27, 2014. ♦The day was suggested by Marcis Liors Skadmanis, a social entrepreneur from Latvia, to acknowledge the vital role of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in global development. ♦ 2025 theme: “Empowering Grassroots Movements for a Sustainable Future".

Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY)

♦ The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) launched Aadhaar Good Governance portal on 27 February 2025 to streamline approval process for Aadhaar authentication requests. ♦ The portal was launched by S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY. ♦ The online platform (http://swik.meity.gov.in) comes into effect, after Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance (Social Welfare, Innovation, Knowledge) Amendment Rules, 2025 under the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016 was notified in late January 2025. ♦ This amendment has been done to help improve transparency and inclusivity in the decision-making process.

NASA

♦ A dishwasher-sized NASA satellite was launched into space from Florida to identify where water – a precious resource for lunar missions – resides on the moon’s surface in places such as the permanently shadowed craters at its poles. ♦ A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral carrying NASA’s Lunar Trailblazer orbiter. ♦ The Lunar Trailblazer spacecraft was built by Lockheed Martin’s space division. ♦ Lunar Trailblazer, which weighs about 440 pounds (200 kg) and measures about 11.5 feet (3.5 meters) wide when its solar panels are fully deployed, is being sent to find and map this water on the moon’s surface.

One Nation-One Port Process (ONOP)

♦ Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal launched the ‘One Nation-One Port Process (ONOP)’ an initiative to standardise and streamline operations across India’s major ports on 27 February 2025. ♦ The step aims at removing inconsistencies in documentation and processes that led to inefficiencies, increased costs, and operational delays. ♦ Sarbananda Sonowal also launched Sagar Ankalan — the Logistics Port Performance Index (LPPI) for FY 2023-24, as a significant step towards enhancing efficiency and global competitiveness in India’s maritime sector.

Tuhin Kanta Pandey

♦ Tuhin Kanta Pandey was appointed as the 11th Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for an initial tenure of three years on 27 February 2025. ♦ He will succeed Madhabi Puri Buch, whose term as SEBI Chairperson is set to end on 1 March 2025. ♦ Pandey is a 1987-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Odisha cadre and is currently serving as the Finance Secretary and Secretary of the Department of Revenue. ♦ Buch, the outgoing SEBI Chairperson, assumed office on March 2, 2022, for a three-year term, becoming the first woman to lead the markets regulator. ♦ She was also the first private sector professional to head SEBI. ♦ She began her career in 1989 with ICICI Bank and later worked as a lecturer at West Cheshire College in England between 1993 and 1995.

సెబీ చీఫ్‌గా తుహిన్‌ కాంత పాండే

మార్కెట్ల నియంత్రణ సంస్థ స్టాక్‌ ఎక్స్ఛేంజ్‌ బోర్డ్‌ ఆఫ్‌ ఇండియా (సెబీ) చీఫ్‌గా తుహిన్‌ కాంత పాండే 2025, ఫిబ్రవరి 27న నియమితులయ్యారు. మూడేళ్ల ఈయన ఈ పదవిలో ఉంటారు. సెబీ ప్రస్తుత ఛైర్‌పర్సన్‌ మాధవి పురి బచ్‌ పదవీకాలం పూర్తవుతున్నందున, ఆమె స్థానంలో మార్చి 1న పాండే బాధ్యతలు చేపడతారు.  ప్రస్తుతం పండే ఆర్థిక కార్యదర్శిగా ఉన్నారు.

ది వాల్‌స్ట్రీట్‌ జర్నల్‌ జాబితా

ప్రపంచంలోనే అత్యంత సంపన్నులైన 24 మంది సూపర్‌ బిలియనీర్ల జాబితాను ‘ది వాల్‌స్ట్రీట్‌ జర్నల్‌’ విడుదల చేసింది. సంపద నికర విలువ కనీసం 50 బిలియన్‌ డాలర్లు (సుమారు రూ.4.35 లక్షల కోట్లు) ఉన్న వారిని సూపర్‌ బిలియనీరుగా సంస్థ పరిగణించింది. ఈ 24 మందిలో 16 మంది సెంటి బిలియనీర్ల (100 బిలియన్‌ డాలర్లు/రూ.8.7 లక్షల కోట్ల)ని నివేదిక తెలిపింది. వీరందరి సంపద విలువ కలిపితే 3.3 లక్షల కోట్ల డాలర్లని, ఫ్రాన్స్‌ జీడీపీకి ఇది సమానమని పేర్కొంది.  ఇందులో మనదేశం నుంచి ముకేశ్‌ అంబానీ (90.6 బి.డాలర్లు), గౌతమ్‌ అదానీ (60.6 బి.డాలర్లు)కి చోటు దక్కింది.

హిందీ ప్రాజెక్టు పొడిగింపుపై ఒప్పందం

ఐక్యరాజ్య సమితి నుంచి హిందీలో వార్తలను ప్రసారం చేయడంతోపాటు భాషను మరింత మందికి చేర్చే ప్రాజెక్టు పొడిగింపుపై మరోసారి ఒప్పందం కుదిరింది. దీనిపై ఐరాసలో భారత ప్రతినిధి పి.హరీశ్, సంస్థ గ్లోబల్‌ కమ్యూనికేషన్స్‌ సెక్రటరీ జనరల్‌ మెలిసా ఫ్లెమింగ్‌ 2025, ఫిబ్రవరి 27న సంతకాలు చేశారు.  ఈ ఒప్పందం 2025 ఏప్రిల్‌ 1 నుంచి 2030 మార్చి 31 వరకూ అమల్లో ఉంటుంది.

జపాన్‌లో జననాల రేటు తగ్గుముఖం

జపాన్‌లో వరుసగా 9వ ఏడాదీ జననాల రేటు తగ్గింది. తాజాగా 2024లో జననాలు అంతకుముందు ఏడాదితో పోలిస్తే మరో 5 శాతం పతనమై 7,20,988గా నమోదయ్యాయి. 1899 తర్వాత జపాన్‌లో ఇంత తక్కువగా జననాలు నమోదుకావడం ఇదే తొలిసారి. ఈ విషయాన్ని ఆ దేశ ఆరోగ్యశాఖ 2025, ఫిబ్రవరి 27న వెల్లడించింది.  జనాభాలో వృద్ధుల సంఖ్య పెరుగుతుండటంతో మరణాల రేటు మాత్రం 1.8 శాతం పెరిగి 16 లక్షలకు చేరింది. ఇదే ఒరవడి కొనసాగితే 2060 నాటికి జనసంఖ్య 8.67 కోట్లకు పడిపోతుందని అంచనా. అంతర్జాతీయ ద్రవ్యనిధి లెక్కల ప్రకారం ఇప్పటికే పబ్లిక్‌ రుణాలు జీడీపీ కంటే 232.7 శాతం వరకు ఉన్నాయి.
