బొగ్గు గని కార్మికుల దినోత్సవం

బొగ్గు గనుల్లో పనిచేసే కార్మికుల కృషిని, అంకితభావాన్ని గుర్తించాలనే లక్ష్యంతో మన దేశంలో ఏటా ఏప్రిల్‌ 4న బొగ్గు గని కార్మికుల దినోత్సవంగా నిర్వహిస్తారు. విద్యుత్, పారిశ్రామిక ఉత్పత్తి సహా వివిధ ప్రయోజనాల కోసం ఉపయోగించే అత్యంత ముఖ్యమైన శిలాజ ఇంధనాల్లో బొగ్గు ఒకటి. భూమిలో నుంచి దీన్ని వెలికితీయడం శ్రమతో పాటు ప్రమాదకరం కూడా. ఈ పని చేస్తోన్న కార్మికులను గుర్తుంచుకోవడంతోపాటు దేశ ఆర్థికాభివృద్ధిలో వారి పాత్రను స్మరించుకోవడం ఈ రోజు ముఖ్య ఉద్దేశం. చారిత్రక నేపథ్యం: దేశంలో మొదటి భూగర్భ బొగ్గు గనిని పశ్చిమ బెంగాల్‌లోని రాణిగంజ్‌లో 1907, మే 4న ప్రారంభించారు. దీనికి గుర్తుగా ఏటా ఆ తేదీన ‘బొగ్గు గని కార్మికుల దినోత్సవం’ జరుపుకోవాలని 2017లో ప్రభుత్వం తీర్మానించింది.

‘స్టార్‌బేస్‌’ నగరం

అమెరికాలోని దక్షిణ టెక్సాస్‌లో ఎలాన్‌ మస్క్‌కు చెందిన స్పేస్‌ఎక్స్‌ కంపెనీ ఉన్న ప్రాంతాన్ని అధికారికంగా ఒక నగరంగా ప్రకటించారు. దీనికి స్టార్‌బేస్‌ అని పేరు పెట్టారు. దీన్ని లాంఛనంగా నగరంగా గుర్తించడానికి తాజాగా స్థానికుల్లో ఓటింగ్‌ జరిగింది. దీనికి అనుకూలంగా 212 ఓట్లు, వ్యతిరేకంగా 6 ఓట్లు వచ్చాయి.  ఈ ప్రదేశం టెక్సాస్‌ రాష్ట్రంలో.. మెక్సికో సరిహద్దుకు చేరువలో ఈ నగరం ఉంది. దీని విస్తీర్ణం 3.9 కిలోమీటర్లే. ఈ నగరంలో ఒక మేయర్, ఇద్దరు కమిషనర్లు ఉంటారు. నగర ప్రణాళిక, పన్నుల వసూలు, స్థానిక అంశాలపై స్థానిక ప్రభుత్వానికి అధికారం ఉంటుంది.

బాబా శివానంద అస్తమయం

ప్రముఖ యోగా గురువు, పద్మశ్రీ పురస్కార గ్రహీత, 128 ఏళ్ల బాబా శివానంద 2025, మే 4న వారణాసిలో మరణించారు. 1896 ఆగస్టు 8న సిలెట్‌ జిల్లా (ప్రస్తుతం బంగ్లాదేశ్‌లో ఉంది)లో శివానంద జన్మించారు. ఆరేళ్ల వయసులోనే తల్లిదండ్రులను కోల్పోయారు. అనంతరం బెంగాల్‌లోని ఓ ఆశ్రమంలో పెరిగారు. గురు ఓంకారానంద ఆయనను పెంచిపెద్దచేయడమే కాకుండా బాబాకు గురువుగా మారారు. ఆయన మార్గదర్శకత్వంలో బాబా శివానంద యోగా, ఆధ్యాత్మిక విద్య, జీవన విలువలను నేర్చుకున్నారు.  బాబా శివానంద యోగా, ఆధ్యాత్మిక సేవలకు గుర్తింపుగా 2022లో ఆయనను పద్మశ్రీ పురస్కారం వరించింది.

ప్రపంచ పత్రికా స్వేచ్ఛా దినోత్సవం

ప్రాథమిక హక్కుల్లో ఒకటైన భావ ప్రకటన స్వేచ్ఛను ప్రోత్సహించే లక్ష్యంతో ఏటా మే 3న ప్రపంచ పత్రికా స్వేచ్ఛా దినోత్సవాన్ని నిర్వహిస్తారు. నిష్పక్షపాతంగా వార్తలు అందించే జర్నలిస్టులను గౌరవించడంతోపాటు పత్రికా స్వేచ్ఛ ప్రాముఖ్యాన్ని ప్రజలకు తెలియజేయడం ఈ రోజు ముఖ్య ఉద్దేశం. చారిత్రక నేపథ్యం: యునెస్కో 1991 ఏప్రిల్‌ 29 నుంచి మే 3 వరకు నమీబియా రాజధాని విండ్‌హోక్‌లో ‘ఆఫ్రికాలో పత్రికా స్వేచ్ఛ, స్వతంత్రం’ అనే అంశంపై సెమినార్‌ నిర్వహించింది. మే 3న పత్రికల స్వేచ్ఛ కోసం కొన్ని సూత్రాలను ప్రతిపాదించారు. దాన్నే విండ్‌హోక్‌ డిక్లరేషన్‌గా పేర్కొంటారు. దీనికి గుర్తుగా ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా ఏటా మే 3న ‘ప్రపంచ పత్రికా స్వేచ్ఛా దినోత్సవం’గా జరుపుకోవాలని 1993, డిసెంబరులో యూఎన్‌ఓ జనరల్‌ అసెంబ్లీ తీర్మానించింది. 1994 నుంచి ఏటా దీన్ని నిర్వహిస్తున్నారు. 2025 నినాదం: Reporting in the Brave New World: The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Press Freedom and the Media

స్ట్రాటోఆవరణ ఎయిర్‌షిప్‌ గగనవిహారం

 స్ట్రాటోఆవరణ ఎయిర్‌షిప్‌ ప్లాట్‌ఫామ్‌ను భారత్‌ 2025, మే 3న తొలిసారిగా గగనతలంలో పరీక్షించింది. దీనివల్ల సైనిక నిఘా సామర్థ్యానికి ఊతం లభిస్తుంది. ఇలాంటి సంక్లిష్ట సాధనాన్ని అభివృద్ధి చేసే సామర్థ్యం అతికొద్ది దేశాలకే ఉంది. తాజా పరీక్ష మధ్యప్రదేశ్‌లోని షియోపుర్‌లో జరిగింది. రక్షణ పరిశోధన, అభివృద్ధి సంస్థ (డీఆర్‌డీవో) దీన్ని చేపట్టింది. స్ట్రాటోఆవరణంలో చాలా ఎక్కువసేపు ఉండగలిగే వ్యవస్థల సాధన దిశగా ఇది ముందడుగు అని డీఆర్‌డీవో పేర్కొంది.

అంగోలా అధ్యక్షుడితో మోదీ భేటీ

నాలుగు రోజుల భారత పర్యటనకు వచ్చిన అంగోలా అధ్యక్షుడు జువా మనువెల్‌ గొంజాల్వెజ్‌ లౌరెన్సాతో 2025, మే 3న ప్రధాని నరేంద్ర మోదీ భేటీ అయ్యారు. ద్వైపాక్షిక సంబంధాలతో పాటు పహల్గాం ఉగ్రదాడి అంశంపైనా ఇరువురు నేతలు చర్చించారు. అంగోలా సైన్యం ఆధునికీకరణకు 20 కోట్ల డాలర్ల రుణాన్ని అందిస్తున్నట్లు మోదీ ప్రకటించారు.
