Biju Patnaik

♦ Russia paid tribute to freedom fighter and former Odisha Chief Minister Biju Patnaik by unveiling a memorial plaque in his honour at its embassy in New Delhi on 7 May 2025. ♦ The event was part of celebrations marking the 80th Anniversary of the Great Victory in World War II. ♦ The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) chief Naveen Patnaik, the younger son of Biju Patnaik, attended the ceremony at the Russian embassy. ♦ Biju Patnaik was the chief minister of Odisha for two terms — from 1961 to 1963 and again from 1990 to 1995. He died on April 17, 1997.

Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI)

♦ The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) signed an agreement with global logistics major Rhenus Group to boost the inland waterways sector of India. ♦ The memorandum of understanding (MoU) facilitates Rhenus Logistics India Pvt. Ltd. to commence scheduled barge operations across key National Waterways (NWs) in India.  ♦ As part of MoU, Rhenus will introduce 100 barges in a phased manner in the national waterways while 20 barges and 6 pushers are to be deployed in the first phase, targeting the movement of more than one million tonnes of cargo annually by the end of 2025. ♦ Cargo movement has surged from 30 MMTPA in 2014-15 to 133 MMTPA in 2023-24, contributing to a cumulative movement of over 779 MMT in the past decade. ♦ is the nodal agency for National Waterways under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways.

♦The Union Government extended the tenure of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director Praveen Sood by one year on 7 May 2025. ♦ He took over as the CBI director on May 25, 2023 for a two-year term. ♦ Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Karnataka cadre. ♦ He was working as Karnataka's director general of police (DGP) when he was named as the director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Operation Sindoor

♦ The Indian Armed Forces launched ‘Operation Sindoor’, a series of precision strikes on terrorist camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) on 7 May 2025. ♦ The operation comes in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, triggering widespread outrage and demands for decisive action. ♦ The strikes targeted a total of nine locations believed to house active terrorist infrastructure involved in planning and executing attacks against India.

ఎస్‌ఆర్‌ఎస్‌ నివేదిక

తెలుగు రాష్ట్రాల్లో 2019-21 మధ్య కాలంలో మాతృమరణాల నిష్పత్తి పెరిగినట్లు కేంద్ర హోంశాఖ ఆధ్వర్యంలోని జనగణన విభాగం తాజాగా విడుదల చేసిన శాంపుల్‌ రిజిస్ట్రేషన్‌ సిస్టం(ఎస్‌ఆర్‌ఎస్‌) నివేదిక వెల్లడించింది. 2018-20 మధ్యకాలంలో ఇది ఏపీలో 45, తెలంగాణలో 43 మేర ఉండగా, 2019-21 మధ్యకాలంలో ఏపీలో 46, తెలంగాణలో 45కి పెరిగింది. ఇదే కాలావధిలో దక్షిణాది రాష్ట్రాల్లో మాతృమరణాలు సగటున 49 నుంచి 47కి తగ్గాయి. నిర్దిష్ట సమయంలో జరిగే ప్రతి లక్ష కాన్పులకు నమోదయ్యే తల్లుల మరణాల ఆధారంగా మాతృమరణాల నిష్పత్తిని లెక్కిస్తారు.  అతితక్కువ మాతృమరణాలు నమోదవుతున్న రాష్ట్రాల్లో కేరళ(20), మహారాష్ట్ర(38) తర్వాత తెలంగాణ(45), ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్‌(46), తమిళనాడు(49), ఝార్ఖండ్‌(51), గుజరాత్‌(53), కర్ణాటక(63) ఉన్నాయి.

బ్యాంకుల లాభం రూ.1.78 లక్షల కోట్లు

గత ఆర్థిక సంవత్సరంలో (2024-25) 12 ప్రభుత్వ రంగ బ్యాంకులన్నీ (పీఎస్‌బీ) కలిపి రికార్డు స్థాయిలో రూ.1,78,364 కోట్ల లాభాన్ని ఆర్జించాయి. అంతకుముందు ఆర్థిక సంవత్సరంలో (2023-24) నమోదైన రూ.1.41 లక్షల కోట్లతో పోలిస్తే లాభం 26 శాతం పెరిగింది. విలువ ప్రకారం చెప్పాలంటే రూ.37,100 కోట్లు అధికంగా లాభాన్ని ఆర్జించాయి.  రూ.1.78 లక్షల కోట్ల లాభంలో స్టేట్‌ బ్యాంక్‌ ఆఫ్‌ ఇండియా (ఎస్‌బీఐ)దే 40 శాతం. ఈ ప్రభుత్వ రంగ దిగ్గజ బ్యాంకు రూ.70,901 కోట్ల నికర లాభాన్ని నమోదు చేసింది. 2023-24లో వచ్చిన రూ.61,077 కోట్లతో పోలిస్తే ఇది 16 శాతం ఎక్కువ. 2024-25లో 12 ప్రభుత్వ రంగ బ్యాంకుల లాభాలూ పెరిగాయి.

ఎన్‌టీపీసీ గ్రీన్‌ ఎనర్జీ సీఈఓగా సరిత్‌ మహేశ్వరి

 ఎన్‌టీపీసీ గ్రీన్‌ ఎనర్జీ ముఖ్య కార్యనిర్వహణ అధికారి (సీఈఓ)గా సరిత్‌ మహేశ్వరిని కంపెనీ బోర్డు 2025, మే 10న నియమించింది. ప్రస్తుతం సీఈఓగా కొనసాగుతున్న రాజీవ్‌ గుప్తా స్థానంలో ప్రస్తుత నియామకం జరిగింది. సరిత్‌ మహేశ్వరికి విద్యుత్‌ రంగంలో 35 ఏళ్లకు పైగా అనుభవం ఉంది. ఎన్‌టీపీసీలో ప్రాజెక్ట్‌ కోర్బా హెడ్‌గా ఆయన వ్యవహరించారు.

నల్సా కార్యనిర్వాహక ఛైర్మన్‌గా జస్టిస్‌ సూర్యకాంత్‌

జాతీయ న్యాయసేవల ప్రాధికార సంస్థ (నల్సా) కార్యనిర్వాహక ఛైర్మన్‌గా సుప్రీంకోర్టు సీనియర్‌ న్యాయమూర్తి జస్టిస్‌ సూర్యకాంత్‌ 2025, మే 11న నియమితులయ్యారు. మే 14 నుంచి ఆయన నియామకం అమల్లోకి వస్తుంది. లీగల్‌ సర్వీసెస్‌ అథారిటీస్‌ యాక్ట్‌ 1987లోని సెక్షన్‌ 3(2), క్లాజ్‌ బీ కింద దఖలుపడిన అధికారాలను ఉపయోగించి రాష్ట్రపతి ద్రౌపదీముర్ము జస్టిస్‌ సూర్యకాంత్‌ను ఈ పదవిలో నియమించినట్లు కేంద్ర న్యాయశాఖ పేర్కొంది.  ప్రధాన న్యాయమూర్తి తర్వాత సీనియర్‌ అయిన న్యాయమూర్తిని ఈ పదవిలో నియమిస్తారు. ప్రస్తుత ప్రధాన న్యాయమూర్తి జస్టిస్‌ సంజీవ్‌ఖన్నా మే 13వ తేదీ పదవీ విరమణ చేయనున్నారు. 14న జస్టిస్‌ బి.ఆర్‌.గవాయ్‌ ప్రధాన న్యాయమూర్తిగా పదవీ బాధ్యతలు స్వీకరిస్తారు. అందువల్ల ఇప్పటి వరకూ నల్సా కార్యనిర్వాహక ఛైర్మన్‌గా ఉన్న ఆయన స్థానంలో జస్టిస్‌ సూర్యకాంత్‌ బాధ్యతలు చేపడతారు.

చంద్రశేఖర్‌రెడ్డి ప్రమాణస్వీకారం

సమాచార హక్కు చట్టం (ఆర్‌టీఐ) రాష్ట్ర ప్రధాన కమిషనర్‌గా డా.జి.చంద్రశేఖర్‌రెడ్డి 2025, మే 9న పదవీ బాధ్యతలు స్వీకరించారు. రాజ్‌భవన్‌ దర్బార్‌ హాల్‌లో నిర్వహించిన ప్రత్యేక కార్యక్రమంలో ఆయనతో గవర్నర్‌ జిష్ణుదేవ్‌ వర్మ ప్రమాణస్వీకారం చేయించారు. ఈ పదవిలో ఆయన మూడేళ్ల పాటు లేదా 65 ఏళ్ల వయసు వరకు కొనసాగుతారు.
