Panchayati Raj Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel

♦ Minister of State for Panchayati Raj Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel launched the Model Women-Friendly Gram Panchayat in New Delhi on 5 March 2025. ♦ This initiative is a part of the Ministry’s International Women’s Day 2025 celebrations.  ♦ The primary objective of the initiative is to establish at least one Model Women-Friendly Gram Panchayat in each district. ♦ It will serve as a beacon for gender-sensitive and girl-friendly governance practices.

The India Semiconductor Mission (ISM)

♦ The India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL), and Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing Private Limited (TSMPL) have signed a Fiscal Support Agreement (FSA) to establish the country’s first commercial semiconductor fabrication unit in Dholera, Gujarat on 5 March 2025. ♦ The Tata Electronics semiconductor fab will see an investment of over Rs.91,000 crore, with a capacity of producing 50,000 wafers per month (WSPM). The Government of India, through ISM, has committed 50% fiscal support on a pari-passu basis for eligible project costs. This move underscores India’s commitment to establishing a robust semiconductor ecosystem and reducing dependency on foreign chip manufacturing.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)

♦ The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted high-altitude trials of the Indigenous On-Board Oxygen Generating System (OBOGS)-based Integrated Life Support System (ILSS) for the LCA Tejas aircraft.   ♦ The OBOGS-based ILSS is a state-of-the-art system designed to generate and regulate breathable oxygen for pilots during flight. ♦ This system eliminates the need for traditional liquid oxygen cylinder-based systems, providing greater efficiency and safety. The ILSS underwent rigorous testing on the LCA-Prototype Vehicle-3 aircraft, developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA).  ♦ The system was tested under extreme conditions, including altitudes of up to 50,000 feet above mean sea level and high-G maneuvers, to ensure its performance met stringent aeromedical standards.  ♦ Manufactured by L&T as a Development cum Production Partner, the system represents a remarkable collaboration between DRDO and Indian defence industries. Notably, the ILSS has 90% indigenous content, reflecting India’s growing self-reliance in aerospace technology. With suitable modifications, the system can be adapted for use in other aircraft, such as the MiG-29K.

World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) 2025

♦ Union Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav inaugurated the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) 2025 in New Delhi on 5 March 2025. ♦ The summit themed Partnerships for Accelerating Sustainable Development and Climate Solutions was Organised by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). ♦ The event was attended by distinguished dignitaries, including Prime Minister of Guyana, Brigadier Mark Phillip, and Brazil’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, were present at the event. ♦ Union Minister Yadav noted that in 2020, India successfully reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 7.93%, demonstrating its unwavering commitment to combating climate change. He also outlined India’s long-term vision of becoming a Viksit Bharat (developed nation) by 2047, with a target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. ♦ India has already made significant progress, reducing its emission intensity of GDP by 36% between 2005 and 2020.

India’s Table Tennis (TT)

♦ India’s Table Tennis (TT) icon Achanta Sharath Kamal announced his retirement from the sport on 5 March 2025. ♦ The upcoming WTT Star Contender in Chennai will mark the end of his illustrious career. Sharath Kamal leaves behind a legacy as a 10-time national champion and the country’s top-ranked men’s singles player, currently placed 42nd in the WTT rankings.  ♦ In a career spanning over two decades, Sharath has won 13 Commonwealth Games medals, including seven golds, two Asian Games bronze medals, and two ITTF Pro Tour titles. ♦ Sharath’s career took off in 2003 when he claimed his first national title, and his international breakthrough came in 2004 when he won his first medal at the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships. ♦ The same year, he earned a spot at the 2004 Athens Olympics, marking the beginning of his Olympic journey. ♦ The Arjuna Award was bestowed on him in 2004, followed by a historic singles gold medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. ♦ In 2022, Sharath earned India’s highest sporting honour, the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award.

చండీగఢ్‌

2024లో కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం అమల్లోకి తెచ్చిన మూడు కొత్త చట్టాలను మొదట కేంద్ర పాలిత ప్రాంతమైన చండీగఢ్‌లో ప్రయోగాత్మకంగా ప్రారంభించారు. అందులో భారతీయ న్యాయ సంహిత (బీఎన్‌ఎస్‌), భారతీయ నాగరిక్‌ సురక్ష సంహిత (బీఎన్‌ఎస్‌ఎస్‌), భారతీయ సాక్ష్య అధినియం (బీఎస్‌ఏ) ఉన్నాయి. ఇందుకోసం అధికారులకు శిక్షణ ఇవ్వడంతోపాటు మౌలిక వసతులను ప్రభుత్వం కల్పించింది. దీంతో చండీగఢ్‌ పోలీసులు కొత్త చట్టాలను పూర్తి స్థాయిలో అమలు చేయడం ప్రారంభించారు.  ఇప్పటివరకూ వారు 1,179 కేసులను నమోదు చేశారు. 245 కేసుల్లో అభియోగ పత్రాలను దాఖలు చేశారు. నాలుగు కేసుల్లో దోషులకు శిక్షలు పడ్డాయి. అంటే 2024 జులైలో ప్రారంభించిన కొత్త చట్టాల అమలు తర్వాత నాలుగైదు నెలల్లోనే శిక్షలు పడేలా పోలీసులు చర్యలు చేపట్టారు. కొత్త చట్టాలు డిజిటల్‌ ప్రక్రియకు అత్యంత ప్రాధాన్యమిచ్చాయి. ఇందుకోసం ఎన్‌సీఆర్‌బీ, ఎన్‌ఐసీలు పలు యాప్‌లను అభివృద్ధి చేశాయి.

‘వివిధతా కా అమృత్‌ మహోత్సవ్‌’

‘వివిధతా కా అమృత్‌ మహోత్సవ్‌’ రెండో ఎడిషన్‌ను రాష్ట్రపతి ద్రౌపదీ ముర్ము 2025, మార్చి 5న ప్రారంభించారు. ఈ కార్యక్రమం దక్షిణ భారత దేశానికి చెందిన కళలు, సంస్కృతిని ప్రజలు అవగాహన చేసుకునేందుకు దోహదపడనుంది. ఈ ఉత్సవాన్ని దేశ సుసంపన్న వైవిధ్యాన్ని ప్రదర్శించేందుకు, వేడుక చేసుకునేందుకు రాష్ట్రపతి భవన్‌లోని నిర్వహిస్తున్నారు. రెండోసారి నిర్వహిస్తున్న ఈ కార్యక్రమంలో ఈసారి దక్షిణ భారత రాష్ట్రాలపై దృష్టి సారించారు. ‘వివిధతా కా అమృత్‌ మహోత్సవ్‌’ రెండవ దశ కార్యక్రమంతో ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్, కర్ణాటక, కేరళ, తమిళనాడు, తెలంగాణ సహా కేంద్ర పాలిత ప్రాంతాలైన లక్షద్వీప్, పుదుచ్చేరిల చైతన్యవంతమైన సంస్కృతిని ప్రజలు అవగాహన చేసుకోవచ్చని రాష్ట్రపతి వ్యాఖ్యానించారు.

న్యాయశాఖ కార్యదర్శిగా అంజు రాఠీ రాణా

భారత న్యాయ సేవల అధికారి అంజు రాఠీ రాణా 2025, మార్చి 5న న్యాయశాఖ కార్యదర్శిగా నియమితులయ్యారు. ఈ పదవి చేపట్టిన తొలి మహిళగా అమె రికార్డు సృష్టించారు. అంతకు ముందు ఈ పదవిలో ఐఏఎస్‌ అధికారి నితిన్‌ చంద్ర బాధ్యతలు నిర్వహించారు.  దిల్లీ ప్రభుత్వంలో పబ్లిక్‌ ప్రాసిక్యూటర్‌గా 18 ఏళ్లు సేవలందించిన అంజు న్యాయమంత్రిత్వశాఖలో సంయుక్త కార్యదర్శిగా చేరి తాజాగా పదోన్నతి పొందారు.

నైట్‌ ఫ్రాంక్‌ నివేదిక

భారతదేశంలో 2024లో కోటీశ్వరుల సంఖ్య 6% పెరిగిందని అంతర్జాతీయ స్థిరాస్తి కన్సల్టెంట్‌ సంస్థ నైట్‌ ఫ్రాంక్‌ నివేదిక తెలిపింది. 2023లో అధిక సంపద కలిగిన వ్యక్తులు (హెచ్‌ఎన్‌డబ్ల్యూఐ) 80,686 మంది ఉంటే, 2024లో ఈ సంఖ్య 85,698కు చేరింది. 2028 నాటికి ఈ సంఖ్య 93,753కు చేరొచ్చని అంచనా వేసింది.  అధిక సంపద కలిగిన వ్యక్తుల సంఖ్యాపరంగా భారత్‌ నాలుగో స్థానంలో ఉండగా; అమెరికా (9,05,413 మంది), చైనా (4,71,634), జపాన్‌ (1,22,119) తొలి మూడు స్థానాల్లో ఉన్నాయి.  10 మిలియన్‌ డాలర్ల (రూ.87 కోట్ల)కు మించి ఆస్తులు కలిగి ఉన్నవారిని అధిక సంపద కలిగిన వ్యక్తులు (కోటీశ్వరులు)గా నివేదిక పరిగణించింది. ప్రపంచవ్యాప్త కోటీశ్వరుల్లో సంఖ్యాపరంగా భారత్‌ వాటా 3.7%. భారత్‌లో సంపద వృద్ధికి మరింత అవకాశం ఉందనే విషయాన్ని ఇది సూచిస్తోంది.

చైనా రక్షణ బడ్జెట్‌లో భారీ పెరుగుదల

త్రివిధ సాయుధ బలగాలను వేగంగా నవీకరిస్తున్న చైనా 2025 ఏడాదికి తన రక్షణ బడ్జెట్‌ను 7.2 శాతం పెంచింది. 2024లో రక్షణపై 23,200 కోట్ల డాలర్లు కేటాయించిన ఆ దేశం ప్రస్తుతం దాన్ని 24,900 కోట్ల డాలర్లకు పెంచింది.  రక్షణపై 89,000 కోట్ల డాలర్లు వెచ్చించనున్నట్లు అమెరికా అధ్యక్షుడు డొనాల్డ్‌ ట్రంప్‌ ప్రకటించారు. భారత రక్షణ బడ్జెట్‌ 788 కోట్ల డాలర్లు మాత్రమే.
