Shivraj Singh Chouhan

♦ On 9 january 2026, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan held bilateral talks with Fiji’s Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Tomasi Tunabuna, to strengthen cooperation in the agriculture sector. During the meeting at Krishi Bhawan, both sides discussed ongoing partnerships and identified new areas of collaboration.  ♦ The two countries agreed to extend the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on agriculture cooperation for another five years and establish a Joint Working Group (JWG) to advance sectoral engagement. ♦ The discussions covered capacity-building initiatives, student exchange programmes, training modules and technology sharing, particularly in small-scale farm machinery and digital agriculture.

National IED Data Management System (NIDMS)

♦ Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah inaugurated the National IED Data Management System (NIDMS) of the National Security Guard through video conferencing on 9 January 2026. He said the launch of NIDMS marks an important step towards strengthening India’s counter-terror framework. ♦ The Home Minister said NIDMS will play a key role in investigating terrorist incidents, analysing patterns of explosions, and formulating effective strategies to counter terrorism.   ♦ The new system aims to integrate these datasets and use advanced Artificial Intelligence-based tools for analysis. He said NIDMS would accelerate efforts to connect multiple data sources and strengthen internal security.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)

♦ The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted a long-duration ground test of an actively cooled, full-scale scramjet engine. The test, held at the Scramjet Connect Pipe Test (SCPT) facility of the Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL) in Hyderabad, achieved a runtime of over 12 minutes. ♦ The achievement builds on a sub-scale long-duration test conducted on April 25, 2025, and is seen as a critical step in the country’s Hypersonic Cruise Missile programme. Both the combustor and the test facility were designed and developed by DRDL and realised with support from industry partners. ♦ The successful run positions India among a small group of nations with advanced hypersonic capabilities. Hypersonic cruise missiles are designed to sustain speeds exceeding Mach 5 — more than 6,100 km/hr — using air-breathing engines that rely on supersonic combustion to maintain extended flight durations. The latest tests have validated the combustor design and showcased the capabilities of the SCPT facility.

భారతదేశంలో పుట్టి చదువు, ఉద్యోగం, ఉపాధి కోసం ఇతర దేశాల్లో స్థిరపడిన వారిని ప్రవాసులుగా పేర్కొంటారు. విదేశాల్లోని భారత సంతతి వ్యక్తులకు పుట్టిన సంతానాన్ని కూడా ప్రవాస భారతీయులుగానే పరిగణిస్తారు. దేశాభివృద్ధిలో వీరి పాత్ర ఎనలేనిది. వారు ఇతర దేశాల్లో ఉంటూ స్వదేశంలోని తమ బంధువులు, స్నేహితులకు డబ్బు పంపుతుంటారు. తద్వారా విదేశీ మారక నిల్వలు పెరిగి, భారతదేశ ఆర్థిక వ్యవస్థ పరిపుష్టమయ్యేందుకు తోడ్పడుతున్నారు. విదేశాల్లో నివసిస్తోన్న భారతీయుల సహకారాన్ని గుర్తించి, గౌరవించే లక్ష్యంతో మన దేశంలో జనవరి 9న ‘ప్రవాసీ భారతీయ దివస్‌’గా (Pravasi Bharatiya Divas) నిర్వహిస్తున్నారు. దీన్నే నాన్‌-రెసిడెంట్‌ ఇండియన్‌ (ఎన్‌ఆర్‌ఐ) డే అని కూడా పిలుస్తారు. ఇతర దేశాల్లో స్థిరపడిన ప్రవాసులకు, భారత ప్రభుత్వానికి మధ్య సంబంధాలను బలోపేతం చేయడంతోపాటు తమ మూలాలు, సంస్కృతితో వారిని అనుసంధానం చేయడంపై ఈ రోజు ప్రధానంగా దృష్టి సారిస్తుంది.  చారిత్రక నేపథ్యం భారత స్వాంతంత్య్రోద్యమాన్ని ముందుండి నడిపిన వ్యక్తుల్లో మహాత్మా గాంధీ ఒకరు. స్వరాజ్య పోరాటంలో చేరడానికి ముందు ఆయన దక్షిణాఫ్రికాలో ఉన్నారు. 1915, జనవరి 9న గాంధీజీ స్వదేశానికి తిరిగి వచ్చారు. ఈ నేపథ్యాన్ని పురస్కరించుకుని ఏటా ఆ తేదీన ‘ప్రవాసి భారతీయ దివస్‌’గా జరపాలని 2003లో నాటి వాజ్‌పేయీ ప్రభుత్వం ప్రకటించింది. అప్పటి నుంచి 2014 వరకు ప్రతి సంవత్సరం దీన్ని నిర్వహించారు. 2015 నుంచి ఈ దినోత్సవాన్ని రెండేళ్లకోసారి జరపాలని నరేంద్ర మోదీ ప్రభుత్వం తీర్మానించింది. ఆ రోజున సదస్సులు నిర్వహించి.. ప్రవాసులకు మరింత చేరువకావాలనేది ప్రభుత్వ లక్ష్యం.

నేషనల్‌ సెక్యూరిటీ గార్డ్‌ (ఎన్‌ఎస్‌జీ) అభివృద్ధి చేసిన జాతీయ డిజిటల్‌ ఐఈడీ డేటా మేనేజ్‌మెంట్‌ సిస్టమ్‌ (ఎన్‌ఐడీఎంఎస్‌) ఫ్లాట్‌ఫాంను వీడియో కాన్ఫరెన్స్‌ ద్వారా కేంద్ర హోం మంత్రి అమిత్‌ షా 2026, జనవరి 9న ప్రారంభించారు. ఉగ్రవాదానికి వ్యతిరేకంగా దేశానికి ముందు తరం భద్రతా కవచంగా ఇది నిలుస్తుందని అమిత్‌ షా పేర్కొన్నారు.  హరియాణాలోని గురుగ్రామ్‌ సమీప మనేసర్‌లోని ఎన్‌ఎస్‌జీ గారిసన్‌లో ఎన్‌ఐడీఎంఎస్‌ను నెలకొల్పారు.

హైదరాబాద్‌లోని డీఆర్‌డీఎల్‌ అభివృద్ధి చేసిన ‘యాక్టివ్లీ కూల్డ్‌ స్క్రామ్‌జెట్‌ ఫుల్‌ స్కేల్‌ కంబస్టర్‌’ను డీఆర్‌డీఓ 2026, జనవరి 9న విజయవంతంగా పరీక్షించింది. స్వదేశీ పరిజ్ఞానంతో హైపర్‌సోనిక్‌ క్షిపణులను అభివృద్ధి చేసే దిశలో ఇది కీలక ముందడుగు. కంచన్‌బాగ్‌ మిస్సైల్‌ క్లాంప్లెక్స్‌ ప్రయోగశాలలోని అత్యాధునిక స్క్రామ్‌జెట్‌ కనెక్ట్‌ పైప్‌ టెస్ట్‌(ఎస్‌సీపీటీ) ఫెసిలిటీలో ఈ గ్రౌండ్‌ టెస్ట్‌ను నిర్వహించారు. ఇంజిన్‌ కంబస్టర్‌ను ఏకధాటిగా 12 నిమిషాలకు పైగా పనిచేయించి దాని సామర్థ్యాన్ని పరీక్షించారు. ధ్వని కంటే ఐదు రెట్లు ఎక్కువ వేగంతో.. గంటకు సుమారు 6100 కిలోమీటర్లకు పైగా ప్రయాణించే సామర్థ్యం హైపర్‌సోనిక్‌ క్షిపణుల సొంతం.
