భవిష్యత్తులో తలెత్తే మహమ్మారులను సమర్థంగా, సమైక్యంగా ఎదుర్కొనే ఉద్దేశంతో ప్రపంచ ఆరోగ్య సంస్థ (డబ్ల్యూహెచ్‌వో) సభ్యదేశాలు తొలిసారిగా 2025, మే 20న ప్రపంచ మహమ్మారి వ్యతిరేక ఒప్పందం కుదుర్చుకున్నాయి. కొవిడ్‌-19 సంక్షోభం అనంతరం మూడేళ్లుగా సాగుతున్న చర్చలకు పర్యవసానంగా ఈ ఒప్పందం కుదిరింది.  ‘డబ్ల్యూహెచ్‌వో ప్యాండమిక్‌ అగ్రీమెంట్‌’కు ప్రపంచ ఆరోగ్య సమ్మేళనం ప్లీనరీ సమావేశం ఆమోదం తెలిపింది. ఈ ఒప్పందంపై జరిగిన ఓటింగులో 124 దేశాలు అనుకూలంగా ఓటేయగా, 11 దేశాలు గైర్హాజరయ్యాయి. దీనిపై ఏ ఒక్క దేశమూ అభ్యంతరం వ్యక్తం చేయలేదని డబ్ల్యూహెచ్‌వో తెలిపింది.

ఇంటెలిజెన్స్‌ బ్యూరో చీఫ్‌ పదవీకాలం పొడిగింపు

ఇంటెలిజెన్స్‌ బ్యూరో (ఐబీ) చీఫ్‌ తపన్‌ కుమార్‌ డేకా పదవీకాలాన్ని కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం మరో ఏడాది పాటు పొడిగించింది. దీని ప్రకారం 2026 జూన్‌ వరకూ లేదా తదుపరి ఆదేశాలు వచ్చే వరకు ఆయన ఈ పదవిలో కొనసాగనున్నారు. ఉగ్రవాద కార్యకలాపాలకు సంబంధించిన కేసులను సమర్థంగా పరిష్కరించిన తపన్‌ కుమార్‌ పదవీకాలాన్ని పొడిగించడం ఇది రెండోసారి. 2024లోనూ ఆయనకు తొలిసారి పొడిగింపు లభించింది. హిమాచల్‌ ప్రదేశ్‌ కేడర్‌కు చెందిన తపన్‌ కుమార్‌.. 1988 బ్యాచ్‌ ఐపీఎస్‌ అధికారి. ఈయన గతంలో రెండు దశాబ్దాల పాటు ఐబీ ఆపరేషన్స్‌ విభాగానికి అధిపతిగా వ్యవహరించారు. 2008 ముంబయి 26/11 ఉగ్రదాడి సమయంలో కౌంటర్‌ ఆపరేషన్లకు ఆయన నేతృత్వం వహించారు.

‘అన్నమిత్ర’ యాప్‌ ప్రారంభం

ప్రజా పంపిణీ వ్యవస్థలో సాంకేతిక పరిజ్ఞానం ప్రవేశపెట్టే ప్రయత్నాల్లో భాగంగా కేంద్ర ఆహార మంత్రి ప్రహ్లాద్‌ జోషి 2025, మే 20న ‘‘డిపో దర్పణ్‌’’ పోర్టల్‌తో పాటు ‘‘అన్నమిత్ర’’, ‘‘అన్న సహాయత’’ అనే యాప్‌లను ప్రారంభించారు.   ‘అన్నమిత్ర’ మొబైల్‌ యాప్‌ ప్రజా పంపిణీ వ్యవస్థకు సంబంధించిన సమాచారాన్ని లబ్ధిదారులకు చేరుస్తుందగా.. ‘అన్న సహాయతా’ యాప్‌ ఫిర్యాదుల నమోదుకు ఉపయోగపడుతుందని ఆహార శాఖ తెలియజేసింది.  ఆహార ధాన్య డిపోల ఉద్యోగులు క్రమ పద్ధతిలో తమ కార్యకలాపాలను నిర్వహించుకునేందుకు, స్వయంగా తమ పనితీరును అంచనా వేసుకునేందుకు వీలుగా ‘‘డిపో దర్పణ్‌’’ పోర్టల్‌ రూపొందించారు.

దేశంలో సంపూర్ణ అక్షరాస్యత సాధించిన రాష్ట్రంగా మిజోరం రికార్డు సృష్టించింది. ఈ  మేరకు మిజోరం యూనివర్సిటీలో జరిగిన ఓ కార్యక్రమంలో ఆ రాష్ట్ర సీఎం లాల్‌దుహోమా కేంద్ర విద్యాశాఖ సహాయమంత్రి జయంత్‌ చౌధరి సమక్షంలో 2025, మే 20న ఈ విషయాన్ని ప్రకటించారు.

ఐఎస్‌ఎస్‌ఎఫ్‌ జూనియర్‌ ప్రపంచకప్‌ షూటింగ్‌లో భారత్‌కు చెందిన అడ్రియన్‌ కర్మాకర్‌ రజతం నెగ్గాడు. 2025, మే 20న షల్‌ (జర్మనీ)లో జరిగిన 50 మీటర్ల రైఫిల్‌ ప్రోన్‌ ఈవెంట్‌ ఫైనల్లో అతడు 626.7 పాయింట్లు సాధించి రెండో స్థానంలో నిలిచాడు. 0.3 పాయింట్ల తేడాతో అతడు స్వర్ణాన్ని కోల్పోయాడు.  జెస్పర్‌ జొనాసన్‌ (స్వీడన్, 626.37) స్వర్ణాన్ని సొంతం చేసుకున్నాడు. గ్రిఫిన్‌ లేక్‌ (అమెరికా, 624.6)కు కాంస్యం దక్కింది.
