Prabowo Subianto

♦ Prabowo Subianto (73) was sworn in as Indonesia's eighth president on 20 October 2024. He won the 2024 February election with a landslide, securing nearly 60% of the vote.  ♦ The former defence minister Subianto was sworn in along with Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. ♦ Indonesia is the world's fourth most populous nation and the world’s most populous Muslim-majority nation.

Abhyuday Jindal

♦ Abhyuday Jindal, the Managing Director of Jindal Stainless was appointed as President of industry body Indian Chamber of Commerce. Jindal succeeded Ameya Prabhu, the Managing Director of NAFA Capital.  ♦ Brij Bhushan Agarwal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Shyam Metalics was appointed as the senior Vice President of ICC. Parthiv Vikram Neotia, executive director of Ambuja Neotia, assumed the role of Vice President. ♦ ICC is an industry body founded in 1925, that has its headquarters in Kolkata.

Bala Devi

Bala Devi became the first Indian woman to score 50 international goals. She achieved this feat during the 2024 SAFF Women's Championship in Nepal, in a match against Pakistan. She was born on 2 February 1990. Devi has been a part of the national team since 2005. She is playing as a forward for the Manipur Police and the Indian national team.

New Zealand clinched the Women's T20 World Cup

♦ New Zealand clinched the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 title on 20 October 2024. They defeated South Africa by 32 runs in the final held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.  It was New Zealand's maiden T20 World Cup title, men's and women's both.  ♦ This was the Kiwis’ third-ever final of the showpiece event and after two successful attempts, they finally have their hand on the coveted trophy. ♦ The champions New Zealand got a cash prize of USD 2.34 million (Rs19.6 crore). The first runners-up South Africa was awarded a cash-prize of USD 1.17 million (Rs 9.8 crore).

♦ Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the National Learning Week (NLW) in New Delhi on 19th October 2024. This effort aims to foster continuous skill enhancement and lifelong learning among civil servants, ensuring their competencies align with the country’s evolving goals. ♦ The Mission Karmayogi was launched in September 2020 aimed to promote citizen-centric governance with the help of a robust digital ecosystem. It is a competency-driven capacity building and human resource management programme designed for Civil Servants.

Global Multidimensional Poverty Index

♦ According to the 2024 Global Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) report, approximately 1.1 billion people live in acute multidimensional poverty, with 455 million residing in conflict-affected regions. This report was jointly released by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI). ♦ The report contains updated data from 112 countries and over 1,359 subnational regions. South Asian countries in the MPI 2024 report: ♦ India: 0.105 MPI value, with 234 million people living in multidimensional poverty (23.8% incidence) ♦ Pakistan: 0.198 MPI value, with 93 million people living in poverty (38.3% incidence)​ ♦ Nepal: 0.092 MPI value, with about 7.5 million people living in poverty (22.5% incidence). ♦ Bangladesh: 0.104 MPI value, with 41.7 million people living in poverty (24.6% incidence).

Vijaya Kishore Rahatkar

♦ Vijaya Kishore Rahatkar was appointed 9th National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson on 19 October 2024. She will hold this position for three years or until she reaches the age of 65, whichever comes first.  ♦ Rahatkar hails from the Aurangabad district of Maharashtra.  She was Chairperson of the Maharashtra State Commission for Women from 2016 to 2021. ♦ Vijaya Kishore Rahatkar has succeeded Rekha Sharma, whose tenure as NCW chief ended on 6 August 2024. ♦ Dr. Archana Majumdar has been officially appointed as a member of the National Commission for Women (NCW) for a tenure of three years, as per a notification from the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

ఇండోనేసియా ఎనిమిదవ అధ్యక్షుడిగా ప్రబోవో సుబియాంటో (73) 2024, అక్టోబరు 20న ప్రమాణ స్వీకారం చేశారు. ఉపాధ్యక్షుడిగా సురాకార్తా మాజీ మేయర్‌ గిబ్రాన్‌ రాకాబుమింగ్‌ రాకా ప్రమాణం చేశారు. ఆయన తాజా మాజీ అధ్యక్షుడు జోకో విడొడో కుమారుడు.

టీ20 విశ్వ విజేతలుగా న్యూజిలాండ్‌

న్యూజిలాండ్‌ మహిళా క్రికెట్‌ జట్టు టీ20 ప్రపంచకప్‌ విజేతగా నిలిచింది. 2024, అక్టోబరు 20న దుబాయ్‌లో జరిగిన మహిళల టీ20 ప్రపంచకప్‌ ఫైనల్లో కివీస్‌ 32 పరుగుల తేడాతో దక్షిణాఫ్రికాపై గెలిచింది.  * పురుషులు, మహిళల క్రికెట్‌ రెండింట్లోనూ న్యూజిలాండ్‌ నెగ్గిన తొలి టీ20 ప్రపంచకప్‌ ఇదే. మహిళల జట్టు 2009, 2010లో రన్నరప్‌గా నిలిచింది. పురుషుల జట్టు 2021 ఫైనల్లో ఓడింది. వన్డే ప్రపంచకప్‌లో అమ్మాయిల జట్టు 2000లో విజేతగా నిలవగా, పురుషుల జట్టు ఏదీ గెలవలేదు.
