Challa Sreenivasulu Setty

♦ Challa Sreenivasulu Setty assumed charge as Chairman of the country's largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) on 28 August 2024. He succeeded Dinesh Khara. Prior to becoming Chairman, Setty was the senior-most Managing Director of the bank. ♦ As per the convention, the chairman is appointed from a pool of serving managing directors of SBI. Usually, the senior-most managing director becomes chairman of the bank. ♦ Setty began his career with SBI in 1988 as a Probationary Officer.

Daljit Singh Chaudhary

IPS officer Daljit Singh Chaudhary was appointed Director General (DG) of the Border Security Force (BSF) on 28 August 2024. He is a 1990-batch IPS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre. Chaudhary is currently the chief of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). He will have his tenure till his superannuation on November 30, 2025. Also, Chaudhary has been holding additional charge of the border guarding force since 3 August 2024.

Rajwinder Singh Bhatti

♦ Rajwinder Singh Bhatti was appointed as the Director General (DG) of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on 28 August 2024. Currently he is the Bihar’s Director General of Police (DGP). Bhatti is a 1990-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Bihar cadre. He will have his tenure till his superannuation on September 30, 2025, or until further orders.  ♦ Bhatti was appointed as Bihar DGP in December 2022.

Second Meeting of the Joint Russian - Indian Commission

♦ The Second Meeting of the Joint Russian - Indian Commission on the Cooperation in the Field of Emergency Management was held in Moscow, Russia on 28 August 2024.  The working plan of the Joint Russian- Indian Commission on the Cooperation in the Field of Emergency Management for 2025-2026 was signed by Shri Nityanand Rai, Minister of State for Home Affairs, India and Mr. Kurenkov Aleksandr Vyacheslavovich, Minister of the Russian Federation for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters (EMERCOM of Russia). ♦ Both the countries agreed to implement this Plan during 2025-2026 and also decided to continue exchange of the best practices and lesson learnt in the field of Disaster Management.  ♦ The first meeting of the Indo-Russian Joint Commission on the Cooperation in the Field of Emergency Management was held in New Delhi in 2016.

17th summer Paralympic games

♦ The 17th summer Paralympic games were officially inaugurated in Paris on 28 August 2024. The opening ceremony was held at the Place de la Concorde. Sumit Antil and Bhagyashri Jadhav led the Indian contingent. In 2024, India has sent its largest contingent ever to the Paralympics, comprising 84 athletes in 12 different sports. Paralympic games are held until September 9, 2024.  ♦ 4,400 athletes from 168 different nations are participated in this Paralympics.

PM Jan Dhan Yojana scheme

♦ Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the PM Jan Dhan Yojana scheme on its 10th anniversary on 28 August 2024. According to the government data out that 67 percent of the accounts under the scheme have been opened in rural or semi-urban areas, with 55 percent of accounts opened by women. PMJDY was launched by Prime Minister Modi on 28 August 2014.  Achievements: ♦ PMJDY has successfully opened a total of 53.13 crore accounts. Among these, 55.6% (29.56 crore) are held by women, and 66.6% (35.37 crore) are in rural and semi-urban areas. ♦ The total deposit balance across all PMJDY accounts has reached 2.31 lakh crore. Since the scheme’s inception, deposits have increased nearly 15 times, and the number of accounts has grown 3.6 times as of August 14, 2024. ♦ The average deposit per account is 4,352 rupees, reflecting a fourfold increase compared to August 15. ♦ The PMJDY has significantly advanced financial inclusion in India, raising coverage from 25% in 2008 to over 80% in 2024.

శ్రీనివాసులు శెట్టి

స్టేట్‌బ్యాంక్‌ ఆఫ్‌ ఇండియా (ఎస్‌బీఐ) కొత్త ఛైర్మన్‌గా 2024, ఆగస్టు 28న చల్లా శ్రీనివాసులు శెట్టి బాధ్యతలు స్వీకరించారు. ప్రస్తుతం ఎస్‌బీఐ దేశంలోనే అతిపెద్ద బ్యాంక్‌గా ఉంది. దినేశ్‌ ఖరా స్థానంలో ఈయన బాధ్యతలు స్వీకరించారు.  * శెట్టి బ్యాంక్‌లో ఇప్పటిదాకా అత్యంత సీనియర్‌ ఎండీగా ఉన్నారు. ఎస్‌బీఐలోని సంప్రదాయం ప్రకారం, బ్యాంక్‌ ఎండీల నుంచే ఛైర్మన్‌ నియామకం జరుగుతోంది. సాధారణంగా సీనియర్‌ ఎండీకే ఆ అవకాశం దక్కుతుంటుంది.

‘ఎయిర్‌ క్వాలిటీ లైఫ్‌ ఇండెక్స్‌’ 2024 వార్షిక నివేదిక

యూనివర్సిటీ ఆఫ్‌ షికాగోలోని ఎనర్జీ పాలసీ ఇన్‌స్టిట్యూట్‌ రూపొందించిన ‘ఎయిర్‌ క్వాలిటీ లైఫ్‌ ఇండెక్స్‌’ 2024 వార్షిక నివేదిక 2024, ఆగస్టు 28న విడుదలైంది. దీని ప్రకారం, భారతదేశంలో సూక్ష్మ ధూళి కణాల కాలుష్యం 2021 ఏడాదితో పోల్చితే  2022లో 19.3% తగ్గింది. ఇది ప్రపంచ వ్యాప్తంగా చూస్తే, బంగ్లాదేశ్‌ తర్వాత రెండో అత్యధికం. దీంతో భారత పౌరుల ఆయుర్ధాయం సగటున ఒక ఏడాది పెరిగింది. నివేదికలోని అంశాలు: * భారత్‌లోని అత్యంత కలుషితమైన ఉత్తర మైదానాల్లో 2021తో పోలిస్తే 2022లో 17.2 శాతం కాలుష్య తగ్గుదల నమోదైనప్పటికీ, ఈ ప్రాంతంలో నివసిస్తున్న వారు సుమారు 5.4 సంవత్సరాల ఆయుర్ధాయాన్ని కోల్పోయే అవకాశం ఉంది. మరోవైపు ధూళి కణాల కాలుష్యం స్థాయిల క్షీణత ఇలాగే కొనసాగితే రాబోయే సంవత్సరాల్లో ఇక్కడి వారి ఆయుర్ధాయం 1.2 సంవత్సరాలు పెరుగుతుంది.  * మహారాష్ట్ర, మధ్యప్రదేశ్, రాజస్థాన్‌లు అత్యధిక కాలుష్య భారాలు మోస్తున్నాయి. దీంతో ఆయా రాష్ట్రాల్లో నివసిస్తున్నవారు 2.9 సంవత్సరాల ఆయుష్షు కోల్పోతున్నారు.  * నేషనల్‌ క్లీన్‌ ఎయిర్‌ ప్రోగ్రామ్‌ కింద ఉన్న నగరాలు, జిల్లాల్లో కాలుష్య సాంద్రతలు సగటున 19 శాతం తగ్గాయని నివేదిక తెలిపింది.

ఐఓసీ, హెచ్‌పీసీఎల్‌కు తాత్కాలిక ఛైర్మన్‌లు

దేశీయ దిగ్గజ చమురు విక్రయ సంస్థలు ఇండియన్‌ ఆయిల్‌ కార్పొరేషన్‌ (ఐఓసీ), హిందుస్థాన్‌ పెట్రోలియమ్‌ కార్పొరేషన్‌ (హెచ్‌పీసీఎల్‌)కు తాత్కాలిక ఛైర్మన్‌లను ప్రభుత్వం 2024, ఆగస్టు 28న నియమించింది. వీటికి పూర్తి స్థాయి ఛైర్మన్‌లను నియమించే ప్రక్రియ ఇంకా కొనసాగుతుండటంతో ఈ నిర్ణయం తీసుకుంది.  * ఐఓసీకి తాత్కాలిక ఛైర్మన్‌గా సతీశ్‌ కుమార్‌ వడుగూరి బాధ్యతలు చేపట్టనున్నారు. సెప్టెంబరు 1 నుంచి మూడు నెలల పాటు ఆయన ఈ పదవిలో ఉంటారు.  * హెచ్‌పీసీఎల్‌కు కూడా సెప్టెంబరు 1 నుంచి మూడు నెలల పాటు ఛైర్మన్, మేనేజింగ్‌ డైరెక్టరుగా బాధ్యతలు నిర్వహించేందుకు రజ్‌నీశ్‌ నారంగ్‌ను ప్రభుత్వం నియమించింది.
