Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin

♦ Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated India’s first glass bridge over the sea on 30 December 2024, connecting the Thiruvalluvar Statue and Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari. Constructed at 37 crores, the 77 metres bridge was inaugurated as part of silver jubilee celebration of the Tiruvalluvar statue, now renamed as statue of Wisdom by the state government. ♦ The statue was unveiled on 1 January 2000, by the then Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Designed by renowned sculptor V. Ganapathi Sthapathi, the statue stands at a combined height of 133 feet, which denotes the 133 chapters of Tirukkural.

Justice V. Ramasubramanian

♦ Justice V. Ramasubramanian assumed charge as the Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India, on 30 December 2024. He is a former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, Justice (Dr.) Vidyut Ranjan Sarangi also took office as a Member of the Commission. ♦ Ramasubramanian was born on 30 June 1958, in Mannargudi, Tamil Nadu. In 2019, he was appointed Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court and later that year became a Judge of the Supreme Court. Justice Ramasubramanian retired on June 29, 2023. ♦ Justice (Dr.) Vidyut Ranjan Sarangi was born on July 20, 1962, in Nayagarh, Odisha. He was honored with the prestigious Haricharan Mukherjee Memorial Award and Gold Medal in 2002. On June 20, 2013, Dr. Sarangi was appointed as a Permanent Judge of the Orissa High Court. In July 2024, he was appointed Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court.

IPS officer Vitul Kumar

♦ The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) gave an additional charge to senior IPS officer Vitul Kumar as Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Director General on 30 December 2024. Vitul Kumar is a 1993-batch IPS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre. He is currently posted as the special Director General of CRPF (HT). ♦ Following the retirement of the incumbent DG, Anish Dayal Singh, Kumar has been assigned officiating charge for the post of DG of CRPF.

"Space Docking Experiment" (SpaDeX)

♦ The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched "Space Docking Experiment" (SpaDeX) at 10 pm from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR in Sriharikota on 30 December 2024. The mission was carried out using the PSLV-C60 rocket. ♦ The SpaDeX mission aims to achieve the challenging task of docking two satellites in space. This cost-effective technology demonstration will test and validate in-space docking capabilities using two small spacecraft, SDX01 and SDX02. These technologies are critical for future missions, including Chandrayaan-4, the Indian space station, and the manned Gaganyaan mission. ♦ With this success, India became the fourth country in the world with space docking technology – after Russia (the former USSR), the US and China.

ద్రవ్యోల్బణం పెరుగుదల రాష్ట్రంలో తక్కవ

ప్రజలు నిత్యం వినియోగించే వివిధ రకాల నిత్యావసర సరకుల ధరల పెరుగుదల (ద్రవ్యోల్బణం) అన్ని రాష్ట్రాలకంటే తెలంగాణలోనే అతితక్కువగా(4.24%) నమోదైంది. 2023 నవంబరుతో 2024 నవంబరులోని ధరల పెరుగుదల తీరును క్షేత్రస్థాయిలో పరిశీలించి ‘వినియోగదారుల ధరల సూచిక’ (సీపీఐ)ను కేంద్ర గణాంకాల మంత్రిత్వశాఖ తాజాగా విడుదల చేసింది. ఆహార ఉత్పత్తులు, పండ్లు, కూరగాయలు, పాలు, గుడ్లు, పెట్రోలు, డీజిల్, దుస్తులు, ఇళ్లు తదితరాల ధరలను దేశంలోని వివిధ ప్రాంతాల మార్కెట్ల నుంచి సేకరించి సీపీఐని రూపొందిస్తారు. ఈ ధరల పెరుగుదల శాతం ఆధారంగా రాష్ట్రాలవారీగా ద్రవ్యోల్బణం శాతాన్ని ప్రకటిస్తారు. రాష్ట్రాలవారీగా పరిశీలిస్తే అత్యధికంగా ఛత్తీస్‌గఢ్‌ 8.39%, బిహార్‌ 7.55%, ఒడిశా 6.78 శాతంతో తొలి మూడుస్థానాల్లో ఉన్నాయి. ద్రవ్యోల్బణం జాతీయ సగటు 5.48%. అన్ని రాష్ట్రాలకన్నా అతి తక్కువగా తెలంగాణలో 4.24% ఉన్నట్లు సీపీఐ నివేదిక స్పష్టంచేసింది.

అమెరికా మాజీ అధ్యక్షుడు జిమ్మీ కార్టర్‌ (100) జార్జియా రాష్ట్రం ప్లెయిన్స్‌ నగరంలో 2024, డిసెంబరు 29న మరణించారు. కార్టర్‌ అమెరికాకు 39వ అధ్యక్షుడు. 1977-81 మధ్య ఆ పదవిలో ఉన్నారు. ఇప్పటిదాకా అమెరికాకు అధ్యక్షుడిగా పనిచేసినవారిలో అత్యధిక కాలం జీవించింది ఈయనే. కార్టర్‌ డెమోక్రాటిక్‌ పార్టీ నేత. ఈయనకు 2002లో నోబెల్‌ శాంతి పురస్కారం దక్కింది.
