హిందూ మహాసముద్రంలో సునామీ బీభత్సాన్ని సృష్టించి డిసెంబరు 26 నాటికి 20 ఏళ్లు అయిన సందర్భంగా హైదరాబాద్‌ ప్రగతినగర్‌లోని భారత జాతీయ మహాసముద్ర పరిశోధనా కేంద్రం(ఇన్‌కాయిస్‌)లో సదస్సు నిర్వహించారు. ఈ సందర్భంగా నవేరియాలో ఉండే షిప్‌లకు సునామీ సమాచారం అందించే వ్యవస్థను కేంద్ర మంత్రి జితేంద్రసింగ్‌ ప్రారంభించారు. 2004లో సునామీ సృష్టించిన అల్లకల్లోలంతో దేశంలో 10,749 మందితో సహా ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా 2.30 లక్షల మంది ప్రాణాలు కోల్పోయారు.
ఆర్థిక రంగంలో కృత్రిమ మేధ (ఏఐ)ను బాధ్యతాయుతంగా, నైతికతతో తీసుకొచ్చేందుకు ఒక నియమావళిని అభివృద్ధి చేయడానికి 8 మంది సభ్యులతో కమిటీని ఏర్పాటు చేస్తున్నట్లు రిజర్వ్‌ బ్యాంక్‌ ఆఫ్‌ ఇండియా (ఆర్‌బీఐ) 2024, డిసెంబరు 26న ప్రకటించింది. దీనికి ఐఐటీ బాంబే ప్రొఫెసర్‌ (కంప్యూటర్‌ సైన్స్‌ అండ్‌ ఇంజినీరింగ్‌ విభాగం) పుష్పక్‌ భట్టాచార్య నేతృత్వం వహించనున్నారు. ప్రపంచ వ్యాప్తంగా, మన దేశంలో ఆర్థిక సేవల్లో ఏఐ ప్రస్తుత స్థాయిని ఈ ప్యానెల్‌ అంచనా వేస్తుంది. అలాగే ప్రపంచ వ్యాప్తంగా ఆర్థిక రంగంపై దృష్టి సారించి ఏఐపై నియంత్రణ, పర్యవేక్షక విధానాలను కూడా సమీక్షిస్తుంది. ఏఐ వినియోగంతో ఎదురయ్యే ప్రమాదాలను కూడా గుర్తిస్తుంది. బ్యాంక్‌లు, ఎన్‌బీఎఫ్‌సీలు, ఫిన్‌టెక్‌లు, పీఎస్‌ఓలతో పాటు ఆర్థిక సంస్థలకు పర్యవేక్షణ ఫ్రేమ్‌వర్క్‌ను సిఫారసు చేస్తుంది.
దేశంలోని అతిపెద్ద గ్రామీణ బ్యాంకుల్లో ఒకటిగా తెలంగాణ గ్రామీణ బ్యాంక్‌ (టీజీబీ) అవతరించనుంది. గ్రామీణ బ్యాంకులను పటిష్ఠపరిచేలా కేంద్రం తీసుకున్న ‘ఒక రాష్ట్రం.. ఒక గ్రామీణ బ్యాంకు’ అనే నినాదంతో ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్‌ గ్రామీణ వికాస్‌ బ్యాంక్‌(ఏపీజీవీబీ)కు చెందిన తెలంగాణలోని శాఖలన్నీ ఇకపై టీజీబీలో విలీనం కానున్నాయి. జనవరి 1 నుంచి ఈ నిర్ణయం అమల్లోకి వస్తుందని 2024, డిసెంబరు 26న టీజీబీ ఛైర్మన్‌ వై.శోభ వెల్లడించారు. ప్రస్తుతం ఏపీజీవీబీ తెలుగు రాష్ట్రాల్లో 771 శాఖలతో సేవలందిస్తోంది. దీనికి తెలంగాణలో ఉన్న 493 శాఖలు టీజీబీలో విలీనమవుతాయి.

ప్రతిష్ఠాత్మక భారత వ్యవసాయ పరిశోధన సంస్థ (ఐఏఆర్‌ఐ, దిల్లీ) డైరెక్టర్‌గా చెరుకుపల్లి శ్రీనివాసరావు 2024, డిసెంబరు 26న నియమితులయ్యారు. ఈ పదవిని చేపట్టిన తొలి తెలుగు వ్యక్తి, శాస్త్రవేత్త ఈయనే. శ్రీనివాసరావు స్వస్థలం ఎన్టీఆర్‌ జిల్లా జగ్గయ్యపేట సమీపంలోని అనిగండ్లపాడు. బాపట్ల వ్యవసాయ కళాశాలలో 1982-86లో ఏజీ బీఎస్సీ, 1986-88 వరకు పీజీ చదివారు. భారత వ్యవసాయ పరిశోధన సంస్థలో పీహెచ్‌డీ చేశారు. 1992లో శాస్త్రవేత్తగా తన ప్రస్థానాన్ని ప్రారంభించారు.
ప్రపంచంలోనే అతిపెద్ద డ్యామ్‌ నిర్మాణానికి చైనా ఆమోదముద్ర వేసింది. భూమిపై ఇప్పటి వరకూ నిర్మితమైన ప్రాజెక్టులన్నిటి కంటే పెద్దదైన దీని నిర్మాణ వ్యయం 137 బిలియన్‌ డాలర్లు. టిబెట్‌లో భారత సరిహద్దుకు సమీపంలో బ్రహ్మపుత్రా నదిపై నిర్మించనుంది. టిబెట్‌లో యార్లంగ్‌ జంగ్బో నదిగా ప్రసిద్ధమైన బ్రహ్మపుత్ర నదిపై జల విద్యుత్‌ ప్రాజెక్టు నిర్మాణానికి చైనా ప్రభుత్వం ఆమోదం తెలిపింది. హిమాలమ పర్వతాల్లోని ఒక విశాల అగాధంలో ఈ ప్రాజెక్టు నిర్మించనున్నారు.
గుంటూరు జిల్లా మంగళగిరికి చెందిన స్కేటింగ్‌ క్రీడాకారిణి జెస్సీరాజ్‌ మాత్రపు (14) 2024, డిసెంబరు 26న రాష్ట్రపతి ద్రౌపదీ ముర్ము చేతుల మీదుగా ‘ప్రధానమంత్రి రాష్ట్రీయ బాల పురస్కార్‌-2025’ను అందుకుంది. స్కేటింగ్‌లో అసాధారణ కళాత్మకత చూపినందుకు ఆమెకు ఈ అత్యున్నత పురస్కారం వరించింది. రాష్ట్రపతి ద్రౌపదీ ముర్ము మొత్తం 7 విభాగాల్లో 17 మంది బాలలకు ఈ పురస్కారాలు అందించారు.
భారత మాజీ ప్రధాన మంత్రి, దేశ ఆర్థిక సంస్కరణల రూపశిల్పి మన్మోహన్‌ సింగ్ (92) 2024, డిసెంబరు 26న దిల్లీలో మరణించారు. యూపీఏ హయాంలో 2004లో దేశ 13వ ప్రధానిగా బాధ్యతలు చేపట్టిన మన్మోహన్‌ సింగ్, 2014 వరకూ కొనసాగారు. 33 ఏళ్లపాటు రాజ్యసభ సభ్యుడిగా కొనసాగారు. ప్రస్తుతం పాకిస్థాన్‌లో ఉన్న పశ్చిమ పంజాబ్‌లోని గహ్‌లో 1932 సెప్టెంబరు 26వ తేదీన సిక్కు కుటుంబంలో మన్మోహన్‌ సింగ్ జన్మించారు. 1987లో ఆయనను కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం పద్మ విభూషణ్‌ అవార్డుతో సత్కరించింది. 1991లో ప్రధానిగా పీవీ నరసింహారావు బాధ్యతలు చేపట్టాక మన్మోహన్‌ సింగ్ ఆర్థిక మంత్రి అయ్యారు.
