85th All India Presiding Officers’ Conference (AIPOC)

♦ Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inaugurated the 85th All India Presiding Officers’ Conference (AIPOC) in Patna, Bihar on 20 January 2025. ♦ The two-day conference, which will bring together key figures from legislative bodies across India, will focus on the theme, “75th Anniversary of Constitution: Contribution of Parliament and State Legislative Bodies in Strengthening Constitutional Values.” This conference is being held in Bihar for the third time.  ♦ On this occasion Birla also released the updated version of ‘Practice and Procedure of Parliament’ (8th English edition and 5th Hindi edition). This was edited by Utpal Kumar Singh, Secretary – General, Lok Sabha. ♦ It covers a wide range of parliamentary practices, rules, and conventions, providing valuable insights into the legislative process and the roles of elected representatives.

Ambarish Kenghe

♦ Ambarish Kenghe was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Angel One. He will assume this position in March 2025.   ♦ In his previous role as Vice President and General Manager at Google Pay APAC, Khenge was instrumental in scaling Google Pay’s footprint and advancing the UPI ecosystem in India.  ♦ Before Google, Kenghe served as Chief Product Officer at Myntra.

World Economic Forum (WEF) is holding its Annual Meeting

♦ The World Economic Forum (WEF) is holding its Annual Meeting from January 20 to 24 in Davos, Switzerland. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw headed the Indian delegation. ♦ Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu Chief also attended.  ♦ The five main these this year (2025) are: reimagining growth, industries in the intelligent age, investing in people, safeguarding the planted and rebuilding trust.  ♦ German professor Klaus Schwab founded the WEF in 1971, originally known as the European Management Forum. ♦ He was a mechanical engineering graduate who then earned a Master of Public Administration degree from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.  ♦ WEF introduced the concept of “stakeholder capitalism.”

Karnataka leads in coffee production

♦ The Ministry of Commerce and Industry stated that India is now the seventh-largest coffee producer globally with exports reaching USD 1.29 billion in financial year (FY) 2023-24. ♦ This is nearly double the 719 million dollars worth of exports in 2020-21.  ♦ In the first half of January 2025 India exported over 9,300 tonnes of coffee with top buyers including Italy, Belgium, and Russia. ♦ Meanwhile, Karnataka leads in coffee production, contributing 248,000 metric tonnes in 2022-23, followed by Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

♦ The National eGovernance Division (NeGD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has unveiled Entity Locker on 20 January 2025. ♦ This a secure digital platform designed to revolutionise the storage, sharing and verification of documents for businesses and organisations. ♦ Aimed at simplifying compliance processes and boosting operational efficiency, Entity Locker aligns with the Union Budget 2024-25's vision of enhanced digital governance and ease of doing business. ♦ The platform is a key component of India's Digital Public Infrastructure and supports entities like corporations, MSMEs, startups, trusts and societies. Entity Locker offers a suite of advanced features: ♦ Real-time document access and verification through government database integration. ♦ Consent-based sharing mechanisms to secure sensitive information. ♦ Aadhaar-authenticated role-based access management for accountability. ♦ 10GB of encrypted cloud storage for secure document management. ♦ Legally valid digital signatures for authenticating documents.

♦ Donald Trump (78) was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, taking the oath of office for his second term. ♦ Chief Justice John Roberts administered the oath at the Capitol Rotunda in Washington, DC on 20 December 2025.  ♦ JD Vance (40) took the oath as Vice President, administered by Justice Brett Kavanaugh. ♦ He became the 50th Vice President and the third youngest in US history. ♦ His wife Usha Vance became the first Indian-American and Hindu Second Lady.

పాకిస్థాన్‌లో అతిపెద్ద విమానాశ్రయం ప్రారంభం

చైనా నిధులతో బలూచిస్థాన్‌ ప్రావిన్స్‌లో పాకిస్థాన్‌ నిర్మించిన అతిపెద్ద విమానాశ్రయం 2025, జనవరి 20న అధికారికంగా ప్రారంభమైంది. మొదటి వాణిజ్య విమానం కరాచీ నుంచి బయల్దేరి గంట పది నిమిషాల తర్వాత గ్వాదర్‌ అంతర్జాతీయ విమానాశ్రయానికి చేరుకుంది. చైనా పాకిస్థాన్‌ ఎకనమిక్‌ కారిడార్‌ ప్రాజెక్టు (సీపీఈసీ) కింద బలూచిస్థాన్‌ ప్రావిన్స్‌లో నిర్మించిన గ్వాదర్‌ అంతర్జాతీయ విమానాశ్రయం, గ్వాదర్‌ పోర్టులతో రెండు దేశాల వాణిజ్య, ప్రాంతీయ రాకపోకలు పెరుగుతుందని భావిస్తున్నారు.

‘డేర్‌డెవిల్స్‌’ ప్రపంచ రికార్డు

భారత ఆర్మీకి చెందిన ‘డేర్‌ డెవిల్స్‌’ బృందం కదిలే మోటార్‌ బైక్‌లపై అతిపెద్ద మానవ పిరమిడ్‌ రూపంతో అరుదైన ఘనతను సాధించింది. దిల్లీలోని కర్తవ్యపథ్‌లో 7 బైక్‌లపై 40 మంది నిలబడి 20.4 అడుగుల ఎత్తుతో హ్యూమన్‌ పిరమిడ్‌ ఆకారాన్ని కళ్లకు కట్టారు. విజయ్‌చౌక్‌ నుంచి ఇండియా గేట్‌ వరకు 2 కిలోమీటర్ల మేర రైడ్‌ కొనసాగించారు.

‘టేకర్స్‌ నాట్‌ మేకర్స్‌’ నివేదిక

ప్రపంచంలోని అందరు బిలియనీర్ల (కనీసం 100 కోట్ల డాలర్లు/రూ.8500 కోట్ల నికర విలువ కలిగిన వారు) సంపద 2024లో 2 లక్షల కోట్ల డాలర్లు (రూ.170 లక్షల కోట్లు) పెరిగి 15 లక్షల కోట్ల డాలర్ల (రూ.1275 లక్షల కోట్ల)కు చేరినట్లు ‘టేకర్స్‌ నాట్‌ మేకర్స్‌’ నివేదిక వెల్లడించింది. ఏటా ప్రపంచ ఆర్థిక వేదిక (డబ్ల్యూఈఎఫ్‌) వార్షిక సమావేశం తొలి రోజున ఆక్స్‌ఫామ్‌ కంపెనీ ఆర్థిక అసమానత నివేదికను విడుదల చేస్తుంది.  నివేదికలోని అంశాలు: 1990 నుంచీ పేదరికంలో జీవిస్తున్న వారి సంఖ్య పెద్దగా మారలేదని.. బిలియనీర్ల సంపద మాత్రం భారీగా పెరుగుతూ వస్తోందని వెల్లడించింది. 2023తో పోలిస్తే మూడింతల వేగంతో బిలియనీర్ల సంపద విలువ పెరిగింది. ఆసియాలో బిలియనీర్ల సంపద విలువ 299 బిలియన్‌ డాలర్ల (సుమారు రూ.25.42 లక్షల కోట్ల) మేర పెరిగింది. దశాబ్ద కాలంలో కనీసం అయిదుగురు ట్రిలియనీర్లుగా ఎదగొచ్చని అంచనా.

భారత్‌లో సైన్స్‌ పట్ల ప్రజావిశ్వాసం ఎక్కువే

భారత్‌లో శాస్త్ర, సాంకేతిక రంగాల పట్ల ప్రజా విశ్వాసం అధికంగానే ఉందని ఓ సర్వేలో తేలింది. ఈ విషయంలో మన దేశం ప్రపంచంలోనే రెండో స్థానంలో ఉండగా, ఈజిప్ట్‌ మొదటిస్థానంలో ఉంది. 68 దేశాల్లో ఈ సర్వే జరిగింది. ఆస్ట్రేలియా అయిదు, బంగ్లాదేశ్‌ ఆరు, న్యూజిలాండ్‌ 9, అమెరికా 12వ స్థానాల్లో నిలిచాయి.
