♦ World Water Day is observed annually on 22 March to highlight the importance of freshwater and promote its sustainable management. ♦ The idea of World Water Day was first introduced in 1992 during the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro. ♦ Following the conference, March 22 was officially designated for the annual observance. The first World Water Day was celebrated in 1993, and it has been observed ever since.  ♦ 2025 theme:  “Glacier Preservation"

లోక్‌సభ రహస్యంగా సమావేశం కావొచ్చు

ముఖ్యమైన అంశాలపై చర్చించేందుకు లోక్‌సభ రహస్యంగా సమావేశం కావడానికి నిబంధనలు అనుమతిస్తాయని రాజ్యాంగ నిపుణుడు వెల్లడించారు. కానీ చరిత్రలో ఇంతవరకూ ఇలా సభ సమావేశం కాలేదు. వారు తెలిపిన వివరాల ప్రకారం, 1962లో చైనాతో ఉద్రిక్తతల సమయంలో సభను రహస్యంగా సమావేశపరచాలని కొంత మంది ప్రతిపక్ష సభ్యులు కోరారు. అయితే అప్పటి ప్రధాని నెహ్రూ అంగీకరించలేదు. రూల్స్‌ ఆఫ్‌ ప్రొసీజర్‌ అండ్‌ కండక్ట్‌ ఆఫ్‌ బిజినెస్‌ ఇన్‌ లోక్‌సభ’లోని 25 చాప్టర్‌.. సభ రహస్యంగా సమావేశం కావడానికి అనుమతిస్తుంది. 248వ నిబంధనలోని సబ్‌క్లాజ్‌ 1 ప్రకారం.. సభాధ్యక్షుడి విజ్ఞప్తి మేరకు రహస్య సమావేశ తేదీని స్పీకర్‌ నిర్ణయిస్తారు.

సెర్ప్‌లో మెప్మా విలీనం

తెలంగాణలోని పట్టణ ప్రాంతాల పేదరిక నిర్మూలన సంస్థ (మెప్మా)ను.. గ్రామీణ పేదరిక నిర్మూలన సంస్థ (సెర్ప్‌)లో విలీనం చేస్తూ రాష్ట్ర ప్రభుత్వం 2025, మార్చి 23న ఉత్తర్వులు (జీవో 15) జారీ చేసింది. ఇందిరా మహిళాశక్తి మిషన్‌ కింద రాష్ట్రంలోని పట్టణ, గ్రామీణ ప్రాంతాల్లో పనిచేసే మహిళా స్వయం సహాయక సంఘాలను ఒకే గొడుగు కిందికి తెచ్చేందుకు ప్రభుత్వం ఇటీవల నిర్ణయం తీసుకుంది. ఈ మేరకు ఉత్తర్వులు జారీ అయ్యాయి.  దీనిద్వారా ఇకపై గ్రామీణ, పట్టణ మహిళా స్వయం సహాయక సంఘాలన్నీ సెర్ప్‌ పరిధిలోకి వస్తాయి.

first woman president of the southern African nation of Namibia

♦ Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah (72) was sworn in as the first woman president of the southern African nation of Namibia. ♦ She replaced Nangolo Mbumba. Nandi-Ndaitwah’s SWAPO party, which has ruled the country for over three decades, won both the presidential and parliamentary elections in November, 2024. ♦ She previously served as vice president and won 58 percent of the vote. Nandi-Ndaitwah is the latest in a small group of women to hold the presidency in Africa. Others include Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in Liberia, Joyce Banda of Malawi, and Samia Suluhu Hassan in Tanzania.

పులుల గణన వార్షిక

2024 సంవత్సరానికి సంబంధించిన ‘పులుల గణన వార్షిక’ నివేదికను ఉప ముఖ్యమంత్రి, అటవీశాఖ మంత్రి పవన్‌కల్యాణ్‌ తాజాగా విడుదల చేశారు. నల్లమల అటవీ ప్రాంతంలోని నాగార్జున సాగర్‌-శ్రీశైలం టైగర్‌ రిజర్వు (ఎన్‌ఎస్‌టీఆర్‌) ప్రాంతంలో 2024లో పులుల సంఖ్య 76కు చేరిందని అటవీ శాఖ అధికారులు లెక్కగట్టారు. వీటిలో 40 ఆడ పులులు కాగా 32 మగవి అని చెప్పారు. మరో నాలుగింటి జెండర్‌ను గుర్తించలేకపోయారు. అలాగే వీటితో పాటు మరో 11 పులి కూనలూ ఉన్నట్లు వివరించారు. 2 023లో వీటి సంఖ్య 74గా ఉంది.  2018 నాటికి ఈ రిజర్వులో 47 పులులే ఉండేవి. ఈ ఆరేళ్ల వ్యవధిలో 29 పెరిగింది. అంటే 61.70 శాతం మేర పెరిగినట్లయింది.

India-EU Maritime Security Dialogue in Delhi

♦ India and the European Union (EU) held the 4th India-EU Maritime Security Dialogue in Delhi. ♦ The Indian delegation was led by Muanpuii Saiawi, Joint Secretary (Disarmament and International Security Affairs), Ministry of External Affairs, and the EU delegation by Maciej Stadejek, Director for Security and Defence Policy, European External Action Service. ♦ The two sides conferred on ways to sustain a secure maritime environment conducive to inclusive growth and global well-being. ♦ They reviewed ongoing cooperation initiatives in the maritime domain and avenues of reinforcing international and regional mechanisms for comprehensive maritime security. ♦ Earlier, the 3rd India-EU Maritime Security Dialogue was held on October 5, 2023 in Brussels.

ఐఎంఎఫ్‌ గణాంకాలు

భారత స్థూల దేశీయోత్పత్తి (జీడీపీ) గత పదేళ్లకాలంలో (2015-25) గణనీయంగా పెరిగింది. 2015లో 2.1 ట్రిలియన్‌ డాలర్లుగా ఉన్న జీడీపీ 2025 నాటికి 4.3 ట్రిలియన్‌ డాలర్లకు చేరుకుంది. దాదాపు 105% పెరిగింది. ఈ పదేళ్ల కాలంలో జీడీపీ వృద్ధి రేటు 77 శాతంగా ఉంది. ప్రపంచంలోని ప్రధాన ఆర్థిక వ్యవస్థలతో పోలిస్తే ఇది ఎంతో మెరుగ్గా ఉందని అంతర్జాతీయ ద్రవ్య నిధి (ఐఎంఎఫ్‌) ద్రవ్యోల్బణం సర్దుబాటు చేసిన గణాంకాలు వెల్లడించాయి. ఈ వేగవంతమైన వృద్ధి భారత్‌ను ప్రపంచంలోని తొలి ఐదు ఆర్థిక వ్యవస్థల జాబితాలో చేర్చింది. ఇదే స్థాయిలో వృద్ధి కొనసాగితే 2025 నాటికి జపాన్‌ను, 2027 కల్లా జర్మనీని అధిగమించే అవకాశం ఉన్నట్లు వెల్లడించింది.
