Jay Bhattacharya

♦ Indian-American scientist Jay Bhattacharya was confirmed as the Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) by the US Senate. ♦ He secured the position with a 53-47 vote during the first session of the roll call vote in the 119th Congress. ♦ Currently he is professor at Stanford School of Medicine.  ♦ Bhattacharya also serves as a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and a senior fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research, Stanford Freeman Spogli Institute, and the Hoover Institution. ♦ US President Donald Trump nominated Bhattacharya as the 18th NIH Director in November 2024.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)

♦ Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy conducted the successful flight-test of indigenously-developed Vertically-Launched Short-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VLSRSAM). ♦ The trial conducted from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha on 26 March 2025. ♦ The flight test was carried out from a land-based vertical launcher against a high-speed aerial target at very close range and low altitude. ♦ It has established the Near-Boundary-Low Altitude capability of the missile system.

Working Mechanism for Consultation & Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC)

♦ The 33rd meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation & Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC) took place in Beijing. ♦ The Indian delegation was led by Gourangalal Das, Joint Secretary for East Asia, while the Chinese delegation was headed by Hong Liang, Director General of the Boundary & Oceanic Affairs Department at the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  ♦ sides focused on reviewing the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the India-China border areas. ♦ The delegations also discussed the resumption of cross-border cooperation, particularly regarding trans-border rivers and the Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra, underlining the importance of strengthening people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

స్వదేశీ పరిజ్ఞానంతో అభివృద్ధి చేసిన ఉపరితలం నుంచి గగనతలంలోని లక్ష్యాన్ని ఛేదించే స్వల్పశ్రేణి క్షిపణి (వీఎల్‌ఎస్‌ఆర్‌ఎస్‌ఏఎం)ని 2025, మార్చి 26న మన దేశం విజయవంతంగా పరీక్షించింది. ఒడిశాలోని చాందీపుర్‌ ఇందుకు వేదికైంది. రక్షణ పరిశోధన అభివృద్ధి సంస్థ (డీఆర్‌డీవో), భారత నౌకాదళం సంయుక్తంగా ఈ పరీక్షను నిర్వహించాయి. ఉపరితలంపై ఉండే నిట్టనిలువు ప్రయోగసాధనం నుంచి ఈ క్షిపణిని ప్రయోగించగా అత్యంత వేగంతో ఆకాశంలో దూసుకుపోతున్న లక్ష్యాన్ని కచ్చితత్వంతో నాశనం చేసిందని రక్షణశాఖ వెల్లడించింది.

అత్యంత విలువైన ఉక్కు కంపెనీ

ప్రపంచంలోనే అత్యంత విలువైన ఉక్కు కంపెనీగా సజ్జన్‌ జిందాల్‌ నేతృత్వంలోని జేఎస్‌డబ్ల్యూ స్టీల్‌ నిలిచింది. ఈ కంపెనీ మార్కెట్‌ విలువ రూ.2.58 లక్షల కోట్లు (30 బిలియన్‌ డాలర్లు)గా ఉంది. తద్వారా మార్కెట్‌ విలువలో ఆర్సెలర్‌ మిత్తల్‌ (24.79 బి.డా/రూ.2.13 లక్షల కోట్లు), నిప్పన్‌ స్టీల్‌ (23.08 బి.డా./రూ.1.98 లక్షల కోట్లు) లాంటి అంతర్జాతీయ సంస్థలను, దేశీయంగా టాటా స్టీల్‌ (రూ.1.95 లక్షల కోట్ల), సెయిల్‌ (సుమారు రూ.47,000 కోట్ల)ను అధిగమించింది.

బ్యాంకింగ్‌ చట్టాల సవరణ బిల్లు, 2024ను పార్లమెంట్‌ 2025, మార్చి 26న ఆమోదించింది. ఈ బిల్లును 2024, డిసెంబరులో లోక్‌ సభ ఆమోదించగా, రాజ్యసభ తాజాగా ఆమోదం తెలిపింది.  బిల్లులోని అంశాలు: బ్యాంకు ఖాతాదారులు ఒక్కో ఖాతాకు నలుగురు వరకు నామినీలను నియమించుకునేందుకు అవకాశం ఉటుంది నగదు డిపాజిట్లు, ఫిక్స్‌డ్‌ డిపాజిట్ల సమయంలోనే నామినేషన్‌ వివరాలను తెలియజేయాల్సి ఉంటుంది. లాకర్ల విషయంలోనూ ఇదే నిబంధన వర్తిస్తుంది. ఇప్పటికే బీమా పాలసీలు, ఇతర ఆర్థిక సాధనాల్లో ఈ విధానం అమల్లో ఉంది.

సెపక్‌తక్రా ప్రపంచకప్‌లో భారత్‌కు స్వర్ణం

సెపక్‌త్రా ప్రపంచకప్‌లో భారత పురుషుల జట్టు తొలిసారి స్వర్ణం గెలుచుకుంది. 2025, మార్చి 26న పట్నాలో జరిగిన ఫైనల్లో భారత జట్టు 2-1తో జపాన్‌పై విజయం సాధించింది. గతంలో భారత్‌ అత్యుత్తమంగా మూడో స్థానం సాధించింది. 2017, 2022లో కాంస్య పతకాలు గెలుచుకుంది.  మరోవైపు భారత మహిళల జట్టు కాంస్యం సాధించింది.

జయ్‌ భట్టాచార్య

అమెరికా వైద్య పరిశోధనలను పర్యవేక్షించే నేషనల్‌ ఇన్‌స్టిట్యూట్స్‌ ఆఫ్‌ హెల్త్‌(ఎన్‌ఐహెచ్‌) డైరెక్టర్‌గా భారతీయ అమెరికన్‌ శాస్త్రవేత్త జయ్‌ భట్టాచార్య నియమితులయ్యారు. ప్రస్తుతం ఆయన స్టాన్‌ఫర్డ్‌ యూనివర్సిటీ హెల్త్‌ పాలసీ ప్రొఫెసర్‌గా ఉన్నారు. డొనాల్డ్‌ ట్రంప్‌ రెండో దఫా అమెరికా అధ్యక్షుడిగా ఎన్నికైన తర్వాత 2024, నవంబరులో ఎన్‌ఐహెచ్‌ 18వ డైరెక్టర్‌గా భట్టాచార్యను నామినేట్‌ చేశారు. తాజాగా 53-47 ఓట్లతో ఆయన నియామకాన్ని యూఎస్‌ సెనెట్‌ ధ్రువీకరించింది.
