♦ World Theatre Day is celebrated annually on March 27 to celebrate the art of theatre and its importance. ♦ It was initiated by the International Theatre Institute (ITI) in 1961. ♦ According to ITI, World Theatre Day is meant as a celebration for those individuals who see the true value and importance of theatre.  ♦ World Theatre Day is being celebrated in many and varied ways by ITI Centres, of which there are now more than 90 throughout the world.

Reetika Hooda

♦ Reetika Hooda bagged a silver medal in the women's freestyle 76kg division at Asian Wrestling Championships 2025 in Amman, Jordan on 27 March 2025. ♦ She narrowly lost to Kyrgyzstan’s Aiperi Medet Kyzy in the gold medal bout, with a score of 6-7. ♦ Reetika clinched the bronze medal at the 2023 edition of the Asian Championships.  ♦ Meanwhile, Muskan and Mansi Lather claimed bronze medals in the women's 59kg and 68kg, respectively. Muskan (17-year-old) defeated Kazakhstan’s Irina Kazyulina, 12-2 in the bronze medal match. ♦ Mansi Lather (18) defeated Mongolia’s Altjin Togtokh 4-0 in the final.

Enhancing the Army's mechanised infantry capabilities

♦ The Ministry of Defence inked a contracts worth Rs.2,500 crore for Nag anti-tank missile tracked platforms and 5,000 light vehicles for the armed forces on 27 March 2025. ♦ The deals were signed with Armoured Vehicle Nigam Ltd, Force Motors, and Mahindra & Mahindra, enhancing the Army's mechanised infantry capabilities. ♦ NAMIS is a third-generation anti-tank missile with fire-and-forget anti-tank missile and sighting system, and the tracked system is mounted on a BMP-2 chassis. ♦ The light vehicles to be procured are designed in accordance with contemporary vehicle technology, with enhanced engine power to cater to a payload of 800 kgs, according to the Ministry.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)

♦ The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has completed the Rolling experiment as part of its Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX) mission. ♦ The “Rolling” or “Rotating” experiment involves circumnavigation of one of the satellites to verify control over satellite maneuvering. ♦ The experiment will help ISRO understand what it takes to bring an object to a desired spot from different orientations for docking. ♦ It will also help ISRO learn whether docking could be done vertically and so on. ♦ This experiment, crucial for future missions like Chandrayaan-4, will provide valuable data and help ISRO validate multiple software and ground station controls. ♦ Earlier, on 13 March 2025, ISRO had completed the undocking of two satellites as a part of the SpaDEx mission.

latest World Social Protection Report (WSPR) 2024-26

♦ India’s social protection coverage has doubled from 24.4% in 2021 to 48.8% in 2024, according to the latest World Social Protection Report (WSPR) 2024-26 by the International Labour Organization (ILO). ♦ This increase is due to key government initiatives that have expanded access to health insurance, pensions, and employment support. ♦ According to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, nearly 920 million people, or 65% of the population, are now covered by at least one form of social protection, whether in cash or in kind, through central government schemes.  ♦ The ILO’s World Social Protection Report evaluates the effectiveness and progress of social security systems worldwide. The 2024–26 edition focuses on universal social protection for climate action and a just transition, providing insights into global trends.

Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD)

♦ The Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) has signed a Statement of Intent (SOI) with UNICEF YuWaah to create livelihood opportunities and enhance female workforce participation in rural India on 27 March 2025. ♦ The three-year partnership aims to connect women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) with employment, entrepreneurship, and skill development programs. ♦ The SOI was signed by T.K. Anil Kumar, Additional Secretary, MoRD, and Sharada Thapalia, Deputy Representative (Operations), UNICEF India. ♦ This collaboration aligns with the Rural Prosperity and Resilience Programme outlined in the 2025-26 Union Budget. ♦ The partnership will also introduce the “Youth Hub,” an aggregator platform for jobs, skilling, and volunteering, as well as scalable models to create “Lakhpati Didis,” promoting women entrepreneurs in rural India.

ప్రపంచ రంగస్థల దినోత్సవాన్ని (World Theatre Day) ఏటా మార్చి 27న నిర్వహిస్తారు. నాటకాలు, కళల ప్రాముఖ్యతను ప్రజలకు తెలియజేయడం ఈ రోజు ముఖ్య ఉద్దేశం. ప్రపంచ రంగస్థల దినోత్సవాన్ని 1961, మార్చి 27న మొదటిసారి ఇంటర్నేషనల్‌ థియేటర్‌ ఇన్‌స్టిట్యూట్‌ (ఐటీఐ) నిర్వహించింది. రంగస్థల ప్రాముఖ్యాన్ని ప్రపంచానికి చాటిచెప్పడంతోపాటు సమాజంపై దాని ప్రభావాన్ని తెలపాలనే లక్ష్యంతో ఐటీఐ ఈ రోజును ప్రారంభించింది. ఐటీఐ అనేది ప్రపంచంలోనే అతిపెద్ద నాటక ప్రదర్శన సంస్థ. దీన్ని యునైటెడ్‌ నేషన్స్‌ ఎడ్యుకేషనల్‌ సైంటిఫిక్‌ అండ్‌ కల్చరల్‌ ఆర్గనైజేషన్‌ (యునెస్కో) 1948లో స్థాపించింది.
