Alok Joshi

♦ Former R&AW Chief Alok Joshi was appointed as National Security Advisory Board (NSAB) Chairman on 30 April 2025. ♦ The NSAB is a seven-member apex body that provides expert and strategic input on security-related matters to the government. ♦ The other six newly inducted members of the board are former Western Air Commander Air Marshal PM Sinha, former Southern Army Commander Lieutenant General AK Singh, former Admiral Monty Khanna, Rajiv Ranjan Verma, Manmohan Singh, and B Venkatesh Varma. ♦ Joshi is a 1976 batch IPS officer of Haryana Cadre, was earlier Special Secretary in RAW under the Cabinet Secretariat, before being appointed as Secretary RAW in 2012. ♦ Joshi has previously served in Intelligence Bureau and Haryana Police. ♦ He has been a part of key operations in Nepal and Pakistan in the past.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)

♦ Cricket has been retained for Asian Games 2026 while Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is set to make its debut at the continental meet, the Olympic Council of Asia confirmed on 30 April 2025. ♦ The Asian Games 2026 are scheduled to be held in the Aichi and Nagoya prefectures of Japan from September 19 to October 4. ♦ This will be the fourth time that cricket will be making an appearance in the Asian Games programme. Cricket made its debut as a medal event in the Asian Games at Guangzhou 2010 and returned at Incheon 2014, although the matches were not accorded international status. ♦ However, once the sport returned to the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, all matches were granted international status by the International Cricket Council (ICC) – the global governing body for cricket.

2nd Indian Open Relay Competition

♦A team comprising top sprinters Gurindervir Singh, Animesh Kujur, Manikanta Hoblidhar and Amlan Borgohain broke the national record in the men’s 4x100m relay at the 2nd Indian Open Relay Competition, held in Chandigarh on 30 April 2025. ♦ The quartet clocked a timing of 38.69 seconds to set a new record in the discipline. ♦ The previous record of 38.89 seconds was set at Delhi’s 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Caste enumeration

♦ The central government on 30 April 2025 announced that caste enumeration will be included in the upcoming population census. ♦ The decision taken at the high-powered cabinet committee on political affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. ♦ Bihar, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have conducted caste surveys in the last three years, while Karnataka is mulling the release of data of a survey conducted in 2015. ♦ All states were ruled by non-BJP dispensations when the surveys were done. ♦ Under Article 246 of the Constitution, the census is listed at Entry 69 of the Union List in the Seventh Schedule, making it exclusively a Union subject. Other decisions: ♦ The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs also approved a Rs.22,864 crore project to build a 166.8 km four-lane greenfield access-controlled highway between Mawlyngkhung in Meghalaya and Panchgram in Assam. ♦ The project will be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM). ♦ Out of the total stretch, 144.80 km falls in Meghalaya and 22.00 km in Assam. ♦ This high-speed corridor, part of National Highway No. 06, is expected to transform regional connectivity and boost economic activity. ♦ The Union Cabinet approved the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for sugarcane for the 2025–26 season at Rs.355 per quintal for a basic recovery rate of 10.25 percent.

ప్రపంచంలో మేధోపర హక్కుల (ఐపీఆర్‌) రక్షణ, అమలు విషయంలో అత్యంత సవాళ్లు విసిరే దేశాల్లో భారత్‌ కూడా ఉందని, అందుకే మళ్లీ ‘ప్రాధాన్య పరిశీలనా దేశాల జాబితా’లో చేర్చినట్లు అమెరికా స్పష్టం చేసింది. గత ఏడాది కాలంగా మేధోహక్కుల రక్షణ, అమలు విషయంలో భారత్‌ అస్థిరత్వంగా ఉందని ద యూఎస్‌ ట్రేడ్‌ రెప్రజెంటేటివ్‌ (యూఎస్‌టీఆర్‌) 2025 స్పెషల్‌ 301 నివేదిక పేర్కొంది. కొన్ని పేటెంట్‌ అంశాల విషయంలో భారత్‌లో ఇబ్బంది ఉంది. పేటెంట్‌ రద్దు అవకాశాలు, ఇతర ప్రక్రియలపైనా సమస్యలున్నాయి. పేటెంట్‌ దరఖాస్తుదారులకు పేటెంట్‌ గ్రాంట్‌ లభించడానికి ఎక్కువ సమయం పడుతుండడమూ ఒక సవాలుగా ఉందని వివరించింది. ‘ఇండియన్‌ పేటెంట్స్‌ యాక్ట్‌’ను అర్థం చేసుకోవడంపైనా అస్పష్టత ఉందని పలు వర్గాలు ఆందోళన వ్యక్తం చేసినట్లు ఆరోపించింది.

విశిష్ట శాస్త్రవేత్తగా డాక్టర్‌ శైలజ

ఇండియన్‌ ఇన్‌స్టిట్యూట్‌ ఆఫ్‌ కెమికల్‌ టెక్నాలజీ (ఐఐసీటీ) విశ్రాంత శాస్త్రవేత్త డాక్టర్‌ శైలజ విశిష్ట శాస్త్రవేత్తగా నియమితులయ్యారు. కౌన్సిల్‌ ఆఫ్‌ సైంటిఫిక్‌ అండ్‌ ఇండస్ట్రియల్‌ రిసెర్చ్‌ (సీఎస్‌ఐఆర్‌) 80 ఏళ్ల చరిత్రలో ఒక మహిళ ఈ హోదా పొందడం ఇదే మొదటిసారి. సాధారణంగా పదవీ విరమణ చేసిన అత్యంత నిపుణుల సేవలను వినియోగించుకునేందుకు విశిష్ట శాస్త్రవేత్త పదవి ఇస్తుంటారు. ఐదేళ్ల సర్వీసు లేదా 70ఏళ్ల వయస్సు.. వీటిలో ఏది ముందైతే అంతవరకు డాక్టర్‌ శైలజ పదవిలో ఉంటారు.

ఐఎస్‌ఎస్‌కు శుభాంశు శుక్లా

భారత వ్యోమగామి శుభాంశు శుక్లా 2025, మే 29న రోదసియాత్ర చేయనున్నారు. యాక్సియం-4 (ఏఎక్స్‌-4) మిషన్‌లో భాగంగా ఆయన అంతర్జాతీయ అంతరిక్ష కేంద్రానికి (ఐఎస్‌ఎస్‌) పయనం కానున్నారు. ఈ యాత్రలో శుక్లాతోపాటు పెగ్గీ విట్సన్‌ (అమెరికా), స్లావోస్జ్‌ ఉజ్నాన్స్కీ (పోలండ్‌), టిబర్‌ కపు (హంగరీ) కూడా పాలుపంచుకుంటారు. వీరు రెండు వారాలపాటు ఐఎస్‌ఎస్‌లో గడపనున్నారు.  ఫ్లోరిడాలోని కెనడీ అంతరిక్ష కేంద్రం నుంచి స్పేస్‌ఎక్స్‌కు చెందిన డ్రాగన్‌ వ్యోమనౌకలో నలుగురు వ్యోమగాములు నింగిలోకి పయనమవుతారు. అమెరికా అంతరిక్ష సంస్థ-నాసా, భారత రోదసి పరిశోధన సంస్థ (ఇస్రో)లు సంయుక్తంగా ఈ మిషన్‌ను చేపడుతున్నాయి.

కొత్త సీజేఐగా జస్టిస్‌ గవాయ్‌

భారత నూతన ప్రధాన న్యాయమూర్తి (సీజేఐ)గా జస్టిస్‌ భూషణ్‌ రామకృష్ణ గవాయ్‌ని రాష్ట్రపతి ద్రౌపదీ ముర్ము 2025, ఏప్రిల్‌ 29న నియమించారు. మే 14న ఆయన చేత రాష్ట్రపతి ప్రమాణం చేయిస్తారు. ప్రస్తుత సీజేఐ జస్టిస్‌ సంజీవ్‌ ఖన్నా మే 13న పదవీ విరమణ చేయనున్నారు. ఆయన స్థానంలో 52వ సీజేఐగా జస్టిస్‌ బి.ఆర్‌.గవాయ్‌ని రాష్ట్రపతి నియమించారు.

2025-26 వార్షిక రుణ ప్రణాళిక

ప్రస్తుత ఆర్థిక సంవత్సరంలో (2025-26) వివిధ రంగాలకు రూ.6.60 లక్షల కోట్ల రుణాలు ఇవ్వాలని రాష్ట్ర స్థాయి బ్యాంకర్ల కమిటీ నిర్ణయించింది. గత ఆర్థిక సంవత్సరంతో పోలిస్తే.. 22శాతం అదనంగా రుణ ప్రణాళికను రూపొందించింది. సచివాలయంలో 2025, ఏప్రిల్‌ 29న జరిగిన 231వ ఎస్‌ఎల్‌బీసీ సమావేశంలో ముఖ్యమంత్రి చంద్రబాబు 2025-26 వార్షిక రుణ ప్రణాళికను ఆవిష్కరించారు.   ఎంఎస్‌ఎంఈ రంగానికి గత ఆర్థిక సంవత్సరంలో (2024-25) రూ.87 వేల కోట్లు రుణంగా ఇవ్వాలని లక్ష్యంగా నిర్ణయించగా.. రూ.95,620 కోట్లు ఇచ్చినట్లు బ్యాంకర్లు వివరించారు. వ్యవసాయ రుణాల్లో 116 శాతం వృద్ధి సాధించామని.. గతేడాది ఖరీఫ్‌లో రూ.1,69,177 కోట్లు, రబీలో రూ.1,37,291 కోట్లు రుణంగా అందించామని నివేదించారు

International Dance Day

♦ International Dance Day (World Dance Day) is observed every year on April 29 to raise awareness about the benefits of dance and bring people together through it. ♦ This day was created in 1982 by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute (ITI), UNESCO's main partner for performing arts. ♦ It was first celebrated on April 29 to mark the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727-1810), the creator of modern ballet. ♦ Since then, International Dance Day is being observed annually to celebrate the art form.
