‘వరల్డ్‌ ట్యూనా డే’ను ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా ఏటా మే 2న నిర్వహిస్తారు. ట్యూనా అనేది ఒక రకమైన సముద్ర చేప జాతి. దీన్ని ఆహారంగా తీసుకోవడం వల్ల కలిగే ప్రయోజనాలపై ప్రజల్లో అవగాహన కల్పించడంతో పాటు వాటి సంరక్షణ గురించి చైతన్యపరచడం ఈ రోజు ముఖ్య ఉద్దేశం.  ట్యూనా చేపలు గంటకు 43 మైళ్ల వేగంతో ఈదగలవు. వీటిలో ఒమేగా-3, విటమిన్‌ బి-12, ఇతర ఖనిజాలు, ప్రోటీన్లు పుష్కలంగా ఉంటాయి. ట్యూనాలో మొత్తం 15 రకాలు ఉన్నాయని అంచనా. సెంట్రల్‌ మెరైన్‌ ఫిషరీస్‌ రిసెర్చ్‌ ఇన్‌స్టిట్యూట్‌ (సీఎంఎఫ్‌ఆర్‌ఐ) ప్రకారం, భారత సముద్ర జలాల్లో కేరా, కవాకవా, ఫ్రిగేట్‌ ట్యూనా, డాగ్‌టూత్‌ ట్యూనా, బుల్లెట్‌ ట్యూనా, ఓరియంటల్‌ బోనిటో, స్కిప్‌జాక్, అల్బాకోర్, ఎల్లోఫిన్‌ ట్యూనా అనే తొమ్మిది రకాలు ట్యూనాలు నివసిస్తున్నాయి. చారిత్రక నేపథ్యం: ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా ట్యూనా చేపలకు ఉన్న డిమాండ్‌ దృష్ట్యా వాటిని అతిగా వేటాడేవారు. దీంతో సముద్ర జాలాల్లో వాటి సంఖ్య క్రమేణా తగ్గుతూ వచ్చింది. ట్యూనా సంరక్షణ, స్థిరమైన వేట పద్ధతులను ప్రోత్సహించే లక్ష్యంతో ఐక్యరాజ్యసమితి 2016, డిసెంబరులో మే 2న ‘వరల్డ్‌ ట్యూనా డే’గా నిర్వహించాలని తీర్మానించింది. 2017 నుంచి దీన్ని ఏటా నిర్వహిస్తున్నారు.

విఝింజమ్‌ ఇంటర్నేషనల్‌ సీపోర్ట్‌

ప్రధాని నరేంద్ర మోదీ 2025, మే 2న తిరువనంతపురంలో విఝింజమ్‌ ఇంటర్నేషనల్‌ సీపోర్ట్‌ను ప్రారంభించారు. దీన్ని అదానీ పోర్ట్స్‌ అండ్‌ స్పెషల్‌ ఎకనామిక్‌ జోన్‌(ఏపీఎస్‌ఈజడ్‌) ప్రభుత్వ, ప్రైవేట్‌ భాగస్వామ్యంతో రూ.8,867 కోట్లతో నిర్మించింది. మనదేశానికి చెందిన అన్ని సరకు రవాణా నౌకల ట్రాన్స్‌షిప్‌మెంట్, ఏడాది వ్యవధిలోనే విఝింజమ్‌ ఇంటర్నేషనల్‌ సీపోర్ట్‌ నుంచి నిర్వహించొచ్చని ఏపీఎస్‌ఈజడ్‌ పేర్కొంది.  ప్రస్తుతం మన దేశానికి చెందిన 75% వరకు ట్రాన్స్‌షిప్‌మెంట్‌ కార్గోను, ఇతర దేశాల్లోని పోర్టులే నిర్వహిస్తుండడంతో.. భారతీయ పోర్టులు ఏటా 200-220 మి. డాలర్ల ఆదాయాన్ని కోల్పోతున్నాయి. అంతర్జాతీయ షిప్పింగ్‌ మార్గానికి ఈ పోర్టు 10 నాటికల్‌ మైళ్ల దూరంలోనే ఉంది.  ఒక చిన్న నౌక నుంచి, సుదూర గమ్యాలకు ప్రయాణించే పెద్ద నౌకల్లోకి సరకు మార్చడమే ట్రాన్స్‌షిప్‌మెంట్‌. ఇందువల్ల రవాణా వ్యయాలు తగ్గుతాయి. అధిక లోతైన సముద్రతీరం ఉన్న పోర్టులు ఈ ప్రక్రియకు అవసరం.
