♦ It was initiated by the International Theatre Institute (ITI) in 1961.

♦ According to ITI, World Theatre Day is meant as a celebration for those individuals who see the true value and importance of theatre. 

♦ World Theatre Day is being celebrated in many and varied ways by ITI Centres, of which there are now more than 90 throughout the world.
