♦ India ranked 159 in the annual World Press Freedom Index 2024. This was released by Reporters Without Borders (RSF, short for Reporters sans frontières in French). A total of 180 countries are present in this index. India had ranked     161 in the 2023 list. 

♦ Norway topped the ranking, while Denmark and Sweden ranked second and third respectively, in the World Press Freedom Index. 

♦ India's neighbouring countries Sri Lanka and Pakistan stood at 150 and 152 place respectively.

♦ In this index, Eritrea (a Country in East Africa) was ranked at the bottom, with Syria just ahead of it.
