♦ World Heritage Day, also known as the International Day for Monuments and Sites, is celebrated globally on April 18 to raise awareness about the importance of preserving cultural and natural heritage across the world.
♦ World Heritage Day traces its origins back to 1982 when the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) proposed the idea of dedicating a day to celebrate and promote heritage awareness.
♦ The proposal was officially approved the following year by the General Assembly of UNESCO during its 22nd General Conference.
♦ 2025 theme: “Disaster and Conflict Resilient Heritage".
