World Economic Outlook (WEO) report

♦ The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has projected that India’s economy will expand by 6.6 percent in 2025-26, according to its latest World Economic Outlook (WEO) report.

♦ IMF has also predicted that India will continue to be one of the fastest-growing 'emerging market and developing economies'.

♦ The robust performance during the first quarter helped cushion the effects of escalating US tariffs on Indian exports.

♦ However, the IMF noted that this estimate is 0.2 percentage points lower than its pre-tariff projection made in October 2024.

♦ However, the IMF has lowered its 2026 projection to 6.2 per cent, citing a potential fading of first-quarter momentum.
